So its basically Dredd besieging a tower? Sounds like an old school video game plot.

I"m down with that.

From what I gather, the tower is the criminal base and it is a death trap that makes other Judges wary.....but not Dredd

If this does well then I truly hope the sequel has Judge DEATH arriving and the third movie is all of the Dark Judges. Dredd has many enemies but I think the Dark Judges are the most notorious.

Dredd locked in a tower full of criminals. That's like locking a kid in a candy store.

Quite true, but I don't think the lawgiver guns have infinite ammo so I hope he has plenty of spare ammo clips. Also having Anderson with him will help since her telepathic powers may well be the edge needed against the Slo-Mo drug.

So do you think they will sully this movie with a cameo of Stallone or Rob?

"None of you seem to understand. I'm not locked in here with you. You're locked in here with *ME*!"

Okay, wrong movie but you get the point.

I had a big smile by the end of the trailer. That's normally a good sign that I'll go see it.

While watching that trailer one thing kept running through my mind, "That helmet is too damn big... and it looks ridiculous."

There were many things wrong with Stallone's Dredd, the outfit wasn't one of them.

As I recall, aren't the helmets equipped with comm systems as well as infra red vision and other nifty features? If so that could explain why they are a bit bigger then normally seen in the comics as they added some realism to them to compensate for all the gear they contain.

Granted the Stallone version had the costume all shiny and correct but perhaps some minor changes won't be so bad.

I'm there. Hopefully the giant helmet is to protect him from concussions while headbutting everyone. The headbutt is a terribly underutilized attack in action movies.

Interested to see what rating it ends up with here in Canada. If there's boobs it might stick with R (Oh my!), but if it's just violence it might go with PG 13.

They ALL float down here. When you're down here with us, you'll float too!

I suspect PG 13 for theaters and an unedited director cut version on DVD.

Most movies that go R in the states end up PG 13 here. I suspect it's because unlike Americans, we've been exposed to violence and crime and so aren't shocked and offended by seeing it's depiction in a realistic fashion.

More likely the illogical and screwy nature of the ratings system in general

I remember once they gave an erroneous error to an episode of the Highlander series. It was rated TV G which should mean minimal to no violence. I figured it would be a light hearted episode before the next major plot arc. But at the end Duncan fights evil immortal of the week and gets stabbed in the stomach by the villain. Before the villain can pull his blade out of Duncan, Duncan slides forward on the blade thus impaling himself so that he can get his blade to the guy's throat and slice his head off. The villain was surprised by such a crazy move by Duncan and beheaded. When the episode was aired again it was more properly rated.

Dredd is supposed to have a voice like that. They could easily say in the movie that he suffered throat damage that changed his voice but I doubt they will do that.

Also in this movie he shouldn't yet have his bionic eye implants as those became necessary after he and Anderson were in Judge Death's world and his eyes were gouged out. For the most part Dredd in this movie should be a well trained Judge that was genetically engineered.

Just keep the helmet on! If his helmet is removed, keep his face concealed like they do in the comic.

"If anyone if familiar with Dredd, over the years there are many times when he removes his helmet but you never fully see his face. This was a construct by the creators because he represents a faceless system of justice and law."

I say this hypothetically. If I went to a movie called Judge Dredd and the lead actor at one point took of his helmet so we could see his full face I would just puke in my popcorn because that's not Dredd. He is mysterious and enigmatic. We're doing it right, it's gonna be harder, grittier and above all faithful to the comic. It's gonna kick ***." - Karl Urban

All well in good but I think the trailer shows Dredd suiting up, of course his face is concealed or turned away from the camera as it should be.

Any time his helmet has been removed in the comic his face has remained concealed somehow. He recently took a knife wound to the throat and when we see him in the hospital his face is cloaked in shadow. In an early Prog issue he took off his helmet and the characters reacted as if he was badly scarred but a faux censor label was concealing his face. After he and Anderson returned from Judge Death's world, Dredd was in sickbay due to his eyes being torn out, he's surrounded by medics so that we can't see him and one says "So that's what he looks like!" They then proceed to install his bionic eyes.

What's funny is that after a couple of weeks he was recovered and used to them and told Anderson that his blinking was reduced, he had infra red and night vision and his shooting accuracy was increased. He then said that his only regret was that he didn't have this done sooner. Anderson proceeded to /em facepalm......

Also there was a time long ago when they showed in flashback what was to be the face of Judge Fargo minus his helmet. This was just as they established that Dredd's face must never be shown and BEFORE it was established that he was a clone based on Fargo's DNA.....so that image of Fargo without the helmet has since been retconned away and explained as an erroneous flashback.

Looks fun, aside from a heaping helping of gratuitous slo-mo & OMG LOOK AT OUR 3D! setups.

I'll check it out.

I'm still wary. Editors can make the worst piece of drek look good for a minute or two by showing us all the good stuff creatively.

Bah, Dredd doesn't need spare ammo when he has his fists

Only if it has Dredd judging them for the first film.
