I do understand your apprehension, the Stallone Dredd which is best filed under W.W.N.S.O.T is a bitter memory for some Dredd fans.

Still this movie is looking very promising.

Indeed a Block War will be fantastic....the only thing that could top that for a sequel is Judge Death and the Dark Judges.

I'll save you all the trouble of watching this. At 2:30 Dredd throws the big bad through a high story window. Good guys win. Trailer just saved me $9. Thanks trailer.

Were you expecting something different to happen?

Nah, just sick of trailers that give away a movie's entire narrative and venting in a snarky way.

There is a provision of the "Geek Code" for things that are so bad, so dumb, so hilariously stupid, so awful etc. etc. . It is in Chapter 13, Section 8, Paragraph 11. It is listed in the index under W.W.N.S.O.T.

W.W.N.S.O.T. = WE WILL NOT SPEAK OF THIS

Did you honestly thing Dredd was going to take the main villain in alive? For all that the main villain appears to be responsible for in this movie, I'd say death is the appropriate sentence.

Also, how many trailers over the years reveal potentially major spoilers about movies?

When I saw the first trailer for Phantom Menace and we get the scene of Obi screaming "NNNOOOOOOO!" that told me that he likely just saw his mentor perish in battle much like Luke will see Obi be beaten in Ep 4.

When I saw the trailers for the Matrix sequels they pretty much confirmed what I had figured would happen in them.

Plus look at the trailers and TV spots for Avengers.

I don't know about this. Dredd needs to be over the top. In fact I don't think you can get more over the top than the Dredd comics. But it looks like they are trying for a Dark Knight tone.

Still, we will see.

I certainly see where you are coming from. The uniform (for example) looks like something that could work in the real world. But is that appropriate for this franchise?

I really should do something about this signature.

I'd be happy with the violence, language content, adult themes, and humor of Dredd being in the vein of RoboCop, which seems more appropriate.

The early uniform worn by the Street Judges was kind of like a cross between highway patrol/riot squad police officers, and Dredd wasn't a particularly physically imposing character either. The early uniform pieces were gradually increased in size (gloves, boots, belt, badge and elbow and knee pads, shoulder pad and shoulder eagle) to the current iconic image of Dredd in his Judges uniform.

Dredd's original uniform and helmet appear to be more of the basis for this movie's costumes then what he wears nowadays.

Seriously, a gold chain attached to the badge? Extra sized gold shoulder pads? that sounds more like a Class A formal uniform for special judge ceremonies then what a street judge should wear.

Clip for you. Warning:- Not for the squeamish but looks awesome. http://www.judgementiscoming.com/

Oh, the most touching 'reveal' he did was with a blind artist who had helped him on a case. As she lies dying after being involved in an accident, he removes the helmet so she can feel what he looks like before she dies.

Why do Comic movie's have to beat about the bush, Stick Judge Death and his Judges in against Dredd and you got a movie, playing about with 2nd rate villians never appeals to me. Get the big bad's up and running from the get go and then you got a basis for futher sequels. Star Wars never done bad out of it and can think of many films that followed suit that was also a success.

Too many 50's to list here's a few you may know.
Slazenger, Area51, Area53, Area54, Erruption, Mind Plague, Thresher, Sheath, Broadside, Debt

Judge Anderson being in this first movie gives me hope the sequel will have Judge Death since she was instrumental in stopping him the first time he appeared.

I would predict the sequel will have Judge Death and if there is a third it will be all of the Dark Judges.

Yeah I remember that issue, all the reader/viewer sees of course is her hands covering his face so all we see is his chin as usual. I think she commented on the scars that she felt too

As to that clip, oh man that was nice and violent. It looks to be early in the movie since Anderson is looking a bit horrified at the carnage as Dredd blasted everyone, plus as a telepath she's probably sensing the minds as they fade into death and that likely isn't a pleasant feeling I would guess. In the main trailer when he asks her if she's ready and he says "you look ready" I would guess that is later in the movie and she has realized what it takes to be a Judge.

When a rookie trains with Dredd it truly is the school of hard knocks

That's all well and good if there is a sequel, seen so many comic movies flop because they haven't put good enough villians in the first film.

Superman is a good example of the way people want their villians in a movie.

Superman 1, Lex Luthor, ok apart from the brain this villian isn't going to set the screen on fire unless he has his suit etc.

Superman 2, General Zod and lackeys, think everyone's favourite superman movie, Villians that can go toe to toe with superman and portray that on screen is what I want to see.

Superman 3 and Quest for peace, I'm going to skip these as that's all they are worth, now if they had put Bizarro instead of the sham in QOP you would have had a movie.

Superman Reboot, pretty much the same as the original, now if the 2nd reboot can be as good as Superman 2 we are looking good, but they need to put flashy high profile villians in, A hero alone does not make a movie.

.
Dredd deals with plenty of street level villains, gangs and crime bosses as well as extraordinary foes like the Dark Judges. But to bring Judge Death into the first movie I think would be an error. Let the first movie introduce fans old and new to Dredd and how he operates and build him and Anderson up in the eyes of the fans, THEN give us foes like the Dark Judges. Also the trailer implies that Dredd and Anderson will have a block war on their hands as they fight to the main villain. That would be spectacular and should help thoroughly cleanse the memories of Stallone-Dredd.
