...and no news of NCSoft/Paragon Studios/CoH involvement?

Really hoping this isn't an indicator that the company won't be there, or that there won't be a Meet and Greet. I will be sad if it is.

Probably just focusing on the Summits in the future is my guess.

They had big things going the last couple of years (Going Rogue & F2P). Not sure if it's worth the investment this year.

The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.

Neither Paragon nor NCsoft will be at SDCC this year. This also means that there won't be a meet and greet.

At this time I don't believe that Paragon plans on being at PAX, but NCsoft will certainly be there.

Our presence is certainly subject to change.

Why would a superhero video game developer want to be at SDCC?

The fact that they don't feel it is "worth it" to go tells us something. Perhaps it tells us just how irrelevent SDCC has become to the superhero/video game crossover market. Or how long in the tooth CoX appears to be to the average MMORPG fan who attends SDCC. Or both.

Boooooo! If I'd known this a couple of months ago, I might not have finagled so hard to get a pass.

As flattering as it is that one would consider a visit to COH the highlight of SDCC, there's SO much more to see at the Con, like

THE highlight, well no, I never said that. But as a resident of Pennsylvania, I can only afford so many trips to California each year, so it was always nice to be able to visit the NCSoft folks while at SDCC. And it is also nice to HAVE other things to do during the trip after spending all that cash on airfare.

So anyway, color me disappointed that there will be no CoH presence at all at SDCC this year. Given how ridiculously hard its become to get tickets as a fan, there's a pretty good chance this will be my last one

I live in San Diego, and I'm seriously looking at this being my last SDCC; the con has been steadily moving away from being a convention by fans for the fandom, and becoming a four-day event where Comic-Con International is marketing 125,000 attendees to publishing houses and production studios, with a few token non-media events tucked in around the edges to pretend that it's still for the fans. Blocks of the dealers' room that used to have four to eight dealers have become monolithic pavilions for individual manufacturers and production houses like Marvel and DC and Hasbro and Toynami puffing the latest cross-licensed marketing gimmick. And if you decide you don't want to bother coming back, the con won't care; there will be hundreds of people clamoring for the opportunity to buy the pass you're not buying.

Glad I went last year. And honestly, you guys were the only reason I wanted to. I'm not saying I didn't enjoy the rest of the trip, but meeting the Paragon team was by far the highlight.

(Second was a tie between meeting (and getting hugged by) both Maurice LaMarche and Chris Sanders, on separate occassions.)

Pretty much this. SDCC has become an utter pointless joke in recent years.

Might as well rename it to CMSC, as in Corporate Media Sponsor Con.

The convention organizers are aware of this and see it as a virtue; even the street banners announce it as "Celebrating the Popular Arts". It is, and has been for years now, a general pop culture festival centered around generally nerdy things. But its ties to comic books is largely incidental now.

I knew the SDCC I once loved was dead and gone forever when they had a Glee panel. Easily half of the "content" of the convention has no connection whatsoever to comics or animation. I only go because it doesn't cost me anything to attend (aside from parking fees), and it is an excuse to visit my friend in San Diego.

San Diego Comic-Con International is a non-profit group. They don't get more money by "marketing 125,000 attendees" to anyone. What the SDCCI organizers are attempting to do is to put together an interesting con.

And if you think that there are only a few token panels that aren't run by huge corperate interests, then you haven't been paying enough attention to them. Sure, all the lines are for the panels run by huge corperate interests or celebrities, but there are some really interesting panels that people don't have to wait in line to get into.

I'll agree that things like Twilight and Glee aren't really all that comic-book related, but I can't argue that people don't want to attend those panels. I have no interest, but that doesn't mean that someone who does have an interest isn't a comic-book fan.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Right, but that doesn't mean that a small team like PS should waste their valuable time and money going to something that may not have much left to do with the actual focus of their game.

Especially not when they don't have anything big to launch. Issue 24 might be exciting to us, but I don't know how many new people they'd attract with "Blaster changes!" Sure, I'd like a preview of that, but they already have my money.

I was just bothered by the Comic-con hate. Yes, it's big and successful. Yes, it's not as narrowly constrained as it used to be. But part of the issue is that it is big and successful. With more people, you're going to get more diverse interests. There are people who are into comics who are also going to be interested in panels about Glee.

And why complain about Glee having a panel when Bones, Castle, and Burn Notice have all had panels? None of those are any more comic related than Glee.

Castle--> Nathan Fillion
Burn Notice--> Bruce Campbell
That's why those two are there.
