Ironic Moments in CoX

Ok. So, I was doing a newspaper mission involving Malta and this happens:

You have defeated Sapper
You gain 1,551 experience and 543 infamy.
Blood Army of Vengeance gains 12 prestige.
You received Catch a Breath.

So, any funny or ironic moments for you guys?

Not really ironic, but funny and rather cool:

I was doing the Resistance:Crusader mission from Wardog against the Syndicate members who were planning to betray and kill us. I come across one of the targets, who is talking about that plan. And as I defeat him, with him denying that he planned to kill us, I simultaneously get the Marked For Death and Knows the Truth badges.

I'm not sure if this qualifies as 'Ironic,' but it was a stand-out moment to my memory, as one of the only time I can honestly say that the RNG being on my side...

I was working my Tanker through the Freaklympics story arc. In the finale, while working my way through the level, I drop a particular group of enemies, and the last one to fall (and Enforcer Smasher) drops a bar of Impervium.

Hey, I'm all good with getting some rare salvage, and am about to move on, when the Enforcer Smasher gets back up (as Freakshow are wont to do. I could just imagine him saying "Hey! Give that Back!")

Naturally, I promptly knock him back out, and as he falls this time, I get a Military Cybernetic salvage. (Which made me pause and think... did I just rip his arm off as a souvenir?)

Regardless of how it happened, I will always thank that Enforcer Smasher whose name I don't know, for being a particularly profitable enemy to defeat.

Long time ago Father Xmas was street sweeping outcasts in the north part of Steel (post Issue 2) and as I defeated a Lead Freezer he got off a Freezing Touch and encased me in a block of ice. It lasted long enough for the civilian to run up, thank me with a "I want my children to be just like you" and I couldn't help but think "frozen in ice?".

I used the random costume generator to create a character with a truly horrid costume.

I saved a civilian, who promptly said "cool costume!"

and I had to retire that character.

New one: Similar scenario.

Not really ironic really, but funny.

You have defeated Flambeaux
You gain 5,244 experience and 2,098 infamy.
Blood Army of Vengeance gains 39 prestige.
You received Dramatic Improvement.

I actually think of Freakshow arms as Improvised Cybernetics.

had a good one this morning while my son was running around AP with my level 50 fire/rad controller.
He likes hanging out in City Hall because there are lots of people to "talk" to (click on and get a dialog screen).

He ended up down in that hall where the old Origin contacts hang out, and found the right one. The dialog box read like this:

Quote:
Greetings, Three Mile Isleman, I have been briefed about your abilities as a Controller. We have much to do. Let us begin.

Sorry, I don't have any more missions for you. You should ask your other contacts.
Maybe because I'd never spoken to him before?
Anyway, amusing.

Not really "ironic" but I can't team with Beast Masterminds. If we fight an enemy that uses Earthquake, the beasts start flopping on their side over and over and it makes me laugh so hard I can't play.

A pack of wolves getting hit by Energy Torrent and flying over my head into a wall might put me out o the game for five minutes while I recover. The animation is just really funny for some reason.

Back when Architect Entertainment was new, I found a mission by Beefcake, a player so into badges that he got a cameo in the official CoH comic book, where he asked Positron for a badge.

The mission was a simple "Defeat Beefcake" mission, where you fought an AE version of him. I beat the mission, and got one of the the AE badges. Beefcake has many badges, but I got one off him.

The classic, no longer possible, event message for a certain zone event:

"Zombies have appeared in Dark Astoria"

Well duh, they've been there for years

Alas, for our loss...

Oh well, at least we still have "Supernatural Activiy dected in Croatoa" to fill that niche...

I liked the ending one better: "The zombies have disappeared from Dark Astoria." Really? Well done!

Also, in a Serpent Drummer mission, Hro'dhotz taunted one of the NPCs instead of me, "Surprised Observation: Fusionette Survival." Yeah, you and me both, buddy.

This morning my dark/dark controller was running Nance's arc. When I found my Evil Doppleganger I immediately Possessed her, to which she responded "Are you trying to confuse me?"

Well, yes.

Actually that's not true. Zombie apocalypses DO still happen in Dark Astoria, I was waiting for a Trial to start up on my Incarnate Stalker once and suddenly zombies started popping up from the ground and all the incarnates had a grand time beating them down.

Of course, if you're talking about the now Echoed DA, I can understand that will never happen again. But to be fair, the new Dark Astoria /is/ called Dark Astoria still.

One that always amuses me is any mission where you've got body bags as glowies. If you click the one that's not the "right" one, you get the message, "You find nothing of interest."

I find this a rather worrisome reaction to finding a corpse. "Aww...this dead guy is *boring.*"

This always seems to happen to me:

You have been defeated.
You have earned Undying badge.

I rolled my eyes when Harvey Maylor sent me to talk to Maria Jenkins to find out the location of a secret Midnighter library, while I was playing my controller... who has been a Midnighter librarian for several decades. I mean, you'd think he would already know. Or at least that Maria wouldn't be quite so displeased about telling someone with every Midnight Squad badge there is.

Ran the SSA followed by the Maria Jenkins arc. Cue several hours of "wait, you're dead! So are you!"

*SPOILER ALERT* If you haven't heard, they are fixing that in I23. Positron will replace Statesman in that last mission and Ms. Liberty will be giving out the STF.

Ran the Maria Jenkins arc yesterday. Sister Psyche's quote after defeating Malaise made me laugh sadly:

"Every time I come across this version of Malaise I am reassured that my tutilage [sic] has kept our version from turning out this way."
