Couldn't you have just said "Free XP booster"?
Goodbye may seem forever
Farewell is like the end
But in my heart's the memory
And there you'll always be
-- The Fox and the Hound
And if it's free candy, have it x-rayed. And if it's a free vacation, make sure to read the fine print. In short, if it's "free" it should be regarded with suspicious cynicism.

In review of this case we have a thread that's a complaint not really about the free item itself, but rather the build up to it and manner of distribution. The response to which has been some rather incorrect (and occasionally half-joking) assertions that free is always good, along with some folks pointing out that free isn't always good (in a likewise half-joking fashion). It doesn't look like a whole lot of real mental gymnastics or genuine naivete is involved.

It was a slap in the face to me as a 7 year VIP customer that has dumped alot of money into the game to get a free item I have no use for. |
I must admit I'd understood (probably incorrectly) that the item you obtained would be random per individual - in other words everyone gets something different.
It seems that doing it this way is potentially easier, but perhaps a bit limited in what can be offered?
I don't know. It's a nice to have and the XP booster is useful

I never got the whole "don't look a gift horse in the mouth" thing. I understand what it means... don't examine the teeth of a horse you receive for free to determine it's age, since that can be insulting to the person who gave you the free horse. Or in other words don't worry too much about assessing the worth of a gift, since a free gift is a free gift and should be valued either way. But... really, if you want to use the horse for anything, you DO need to know certain things about it. Examining the horse's teeth to determine it's age (since apparently the person who gave it to you is too much of a jerk to just TELL you) could be very important if you want the horse to race, or breed it, or whatever.
I mean, free is nice and all. But if you want to use that horse for anything, the smart thing to do is open that mouth up and take a good hard look. You'd be a fool not to!

The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.

If you want to PRIVATELY look and gripe, fine.
What's happening here is FAR from private.

Loose --> not tight.
Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.
One extra 'o' makes a big difference.
@Damz Find me on the global channel Union Chat. One of the best "chat channels" ingame!
At the pummit, they said they would be startin g this, that they'd put a item ont he market for a day that would be free.
We got, what, 2 days notice? Yeah, it's a kind of hype-y PR piece, but I don't see the build-up.
Orc&Pie No.53230 There is an orc, and somehow, he got a pie. And you are hungry.

Well Zwill did say in his announcement that this was a test of a pilot program. It makes perfect sense that you aren't going to blow a test out of proportion nor give away anything uber-awesome.
You are going to save that for the actual launch of the feature, and hype that up.

Otherwise, most folk will know what they're getting before they even log in.

When people actually learn about it, I'd bet most people still wouldn't know what it is until they checked the store themselves... the people that frequent the boards probably will know before log in, but we're a minority in the playerbase.

Hey, a free wooden horse! And a bunch of Greek soldiers too! Best gift ever!
