Most of the RPers used to hang out on top of City Hall, but not as much anymore. Atlas crashes a lot of people's systems with it's crushing lag and memory leaks.

Also, devs, if you read this... please fix that. I miss being able to go into Atlas. I can't anymore because my system screeches to a halt when I get near City Hall or the plaza.

That's not a problem I've ever had, even with my lousy ISP connection.

This isn't on a monster gaming rig either. It's on a Dell that is nearly 4 years old. The only change to the system is the addition of a second drive for installing Windows 7 and replacement of a burned out Power Supply.

I've also never had that problem on my laptop even when I'm running wirelessly.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Black Pebble is my new hero.

ditto.

My rig freezes like a naked baby at the North Pole during, say, a Rikti invasion in Talos, but handles even a packed Atlas costume contest pretty well.

Odd. A lot of people I know avoid Atlas because it loads slow, is rough on their systems, and going near or within sight of Ms. Liberty turns it into a morass of lag.

Don't play on Freedom.

Don't play on Freedom or Virtue.

(Should've indicated the first was tongue-in-cheek as well, admittedly.)

Which server would that be? RPers may have Virtue as the "unofficial" RP server, but there are RPers on every server.

Play Pinnacle Redside
or just go to the Shadow Shard on any server

you will encounter no one in local or broadcast at all to disturb your play

I can't test this with my system on Virtue since I refuse to create a character there due to the name of the server.

However, I do have a lowbie alt on Freedom that I can test this with after I get back from the Pummit.

I still don't think I'll have much of a problem, but I'm willing to test it during a high server load time.

It seems to mostly be with older machines, so for all I know it could just be that our graphics cards arn't up to snuff or something about Atlas makes the system cranky. My laptop is about 4+ years old and cantankerous.

I'm sorry but this is not a problem the devs can fix. You are solely responsible for owning, maintaining, and/or upgrading the hardware necessary to play the game.

The problem is, I can't tell if it is me. It might be me, but half my SG has the same complaint: Atlas makes their machines go splut. So it might not be JUST my machine. Because it ran the old Atlas fine.

My few characters on Virtue (yes, I have a couple) cruise through the new Atlas Park just fine. This really sounds like a problem with your system(s). Your SG clearly needs to upgrade their rigs.

You have a problem with the virtuous?

By your own admission your laptop is over 4 years old. So I have no doubt that that it is your machine that's the problem. People on old systems should have at least upgraded their graphics cards when Ultra Mode was added.

I saved up and got a new system last year (Intel Core i7 870 processor (4x2.93Ghz/8mb l3 cache), 8GB DDR3-1600 RAM, AMD Radeon HD 6850 1GB, 2 TB Hard Drive - 32M Cache - 7200 RPM - 3.0Gb/s) and I haven't seen anything you are describing in the last 15 months. Virtue is my main server and I have a sever case of altitis. So I'm constantly in Atlas when I play.

But if you want, you can post exactly what your laptop has and see if people will agree that your system meets the requirements necessary to run the game efficiently.

Define "go splurt." and what are the graphics settings you're on.

I have a 3-year-old PC and one that hasn't been modified since CoH launch. The oldest one's on -necessarily- rather low display settings, and a busy atlas slows framerate notably, but no crashes and entirely playable, so age doesn't seem to be the defining factor. Even the 3-year-PC was just cobbled together with under-$500 parts, so its hardly a gaming rig, and again, atlas on peak traffic brings no crippling issues with ultra mode enabled

That depends on what country you are from and/or directing it towards.

That's not a malfunction. Those costumes really have that many colors.

I agree, the rp is out of control. There is this guy who is always in Atlas and pretending to pass out flyers. Then there are other stupid players who try to include me in their role play saying stuff like "Did you hear that Mandu has been investigating Crey?" Maybe I don't want them talking about me. And how did they know I had been running Crey missions anyway? Oh, and the worst guy of all is that arrogant jerk who always stands outside the Vanguard base and says "Step over here Mandu. I need to see your credentials." Doesn't he have anything better to do with his life than harass players who just want to get to the RWZ?

That is the rp spam the OP was talking about right?
