They don't have them?

That's just weird.

Okay, I thought about it for a second. If they're afraid of trans characters, more than a little offensive. But I'm worrying about that from a personal place, that may not be the reason at all.

HEAVILY not /signed.

As Zwill just said this would NOT be a single issue. You're talking about MONTHS of no new content, while COH's competitors ramp up their content.

NOT A GOOD BUSINESS DECISION.

Sorry.

Flameboxer Aura LVL 50 SS/Fire Brute

Personally I would love this - in fact I'd pay extra to have an issue full of rebalances, bugfixes and QOL stuff. Then again I can see how this wouldn't work overall and that just the way of it I guess.

My position is possibly not usual in that I'm not in the slightest bit interested an any of the incarnate content so recent issues have been a bit content light for me anyway. After years of playing I still only have a couple of 50's and my raging altitis causes me to delete far too many toons in the lv30-35 range (I value recycling the concept/cossie/name more than the levels).

I also have a particular fondness for this idea as I work in software development (sadly nothing as interesting as a game) and we are constantly pouring more and more customization into our already creaking system. The idea of calling a halt to everything for a couple of months and rewriting/fixing/stabilizing would be a dream come true!

I would like to see at least one tick from that list addressed every two issues, if possible, if not one a year.

There always has to be at least *some* new hotness. Now the thing of it is, revamping old content can often times count as *new* content, so it does pull double duty (I've yet to talk to someone who doesn't call Dark Astoria "new content".) Ideally, you can work it so that you're killing two birds with one stone.

Besides, the things you're talking about would likely take much more than a single issue of development time.
And these days you guys can take a piecemeal/homogonised approach to updates like Issue 22 featuring DA content, two new arcs on each side for 15-25 PLUS Gravity Control, Stalker changes and the much-asked for since I first ventured into the forums Darkness Control and related sets.

What I would like to see is more cleanup or things to make bases a viable alternative than regular travel options. Bases can collect the beacon badges which would make them highly desirable travel hubs for Vigis and Rogues (lucky me I have a grandfathered HG<>VG coalition or two) but even adding new beacons for Praetoria's zones would help some of us even with TUNNEL coming in i23.

Another thing would be cleaning up older missions by making them consistant with how newer ones are displayed. The new Atlas, DA, Praetoria arcs are all nicely colour-coded and later ones even tell you how far along you are. I recently went into the Hollows and I noticed how dull the mission text was. I got the orange warning text about Frostfire but his name was the same white text as the rest of Flux's dialogue.

Even cleaning up old missions with new colour-text would be something I'd notice but it doesn't have to come at the sacrifice of other content items these days.

I could definitely get behind this - but as Zwillinger pointed out, there's actually quite a bit of stuff in there - so maybe the way to approach it would be to spread QoL stuff over 2 or 3 issues with a reduction of "new shiny" during that period

Also, regarding the issue of spelling, grammar, typos etc and Story Lore, I'm amazed that games don't seem to recruit or involve the fans, ie the player base. It seems to me it would be relatively simple with the language issues to just have the players point out the culprits in forum thread which could be reasonably easily overseen and fixed simply.

With Lore there used to be a Q&A board with Manticore I believe but that doesn't fix too many of the broken bits and inconsistencies - again under proper supervision players could point out the worst bits, a redname could respond appropriately - given that as players we don't necessarily understand future ramifications - and players could offer potential solutions to dilemmas and inconsistencies.

Seeing as how we don't really advertise heavily, those that would be impacted most are already the most understanding of its necessity.

IF you had added power pool customization to that list I would have said heck yeah! The awesome thing is that thanks to freedom, a lot of that stuff can now be done outside of large issue releases.

New costumes, and new powers are things that we get almost every month now. How awesome is that?????

Unfortunately agreed.

I'm behind on or still digesting much of the content already (Heck, I am behind on some stuff from ten issues ago. What's that you say, my Pain Dom MM? Oh, you don't exist in-game? Sorry about that.). I have more than enough progress that could be made in DA on my stable of 50s to last for a year, probably. I have Staff Fighting to level, I haven't even rolled my Dark controller, haven't even purchased Titan Weapons. My Beam Rifle corr is languishing in First Ward. I haven't rolled a serious toon red-side since the Mercy revamp (my "Bootfoot" counterpart to my son's "Glovehand" doesn't count).

But, QoL and general cleanup doesn't sell (or doesn't advertise well), even if it might be desirable to a subset of players.

I'm just happy to see DISCUSSION! This thread wasn't to lay down "the public opinion", it was meant to draw it out. I was honestly curious what a lot of folks thought.

Realistically, yes - I agree that some "new stuff" will always have to be included, to keep public interest and drive the game forward. But it's just so FRUSTRATING to see so many other little/not-so-little ways that the game needs fixing/improving that could so enhance the gaming experience, and never see them acted on. *sighs*

BTW, Zwill - my offer to spell/grammar-check the in-game text as a contractor? Still stands. Would also do the same to rewrite some of the earlier missions following the slightly more streamlined variant I mentioned in my other post above.

No, they don't. They haven't since I've been playing back in July 2007. My husband, my friends, and I have all repeatedly bugged this as "odd" and requested it be changed over the years. No luck. Draw your own conclusions.

I'm happy to see an issue or 2 where things get sorted tbh. As zwill *kinda* mentioned in my view those who voice their views loudly either just want new things then moan about old things not being sorted or don't view the fourms at all.

I'm happy to have one issue - some fixes with new stuff and an issue with new stuff then another with more fixes and some new stuff. that then should keep people happy though the downside would be extended times to get new stuff out, but we get old stuff sorted

As mentioned in the OP.. PVP will need an issue to sort out and will need the devs to talk closely with the players to find some sort of solution..although..no one seems to remember and understand with pvp- Not everyone is happy and not everything is perfect.

With bases - iiii kinda like that kind of suggestion tbh. If the tech is possible/inc database + knowledge 2 types of bases would be cool. new tech bases - starting from scratch with new stuff - Tho to make up for it, the prest is transfered over so they have the same prest to rebuild.
and the old bases- old problems stay- bases pres etc is left alone. So those who don't want to rebuild anything etc dont have to while they still have the power to add more to it etc.
Ofc with the new bases- old bases i dont say about graphics being updated cos then 2 sets will have to be made one for new and one for old and thats twice the time.

Overall i would say IF the devs would like to go this way..i would say put a poll up and tell everyone, from forums, to twitter, facebook actually in game etc so everyone has the chance to vote on wether of not the majority of the player base whats an issue or 2 to sort things out.

then they could always go about it in the same way as pvp n bases.
(thats if these ideas arent alrdy in some way or another alrdy in production)

I would like to see QOL fixes made, but not at the expense of no content. As said before that's a bad idea for business reasons. What I would like see done most are the lore/proofreading fixes done. That could be a .5 issue (I think) or done as part of a major issue. To my mind they really need to be done because these problems reflect poorly on the quality of the game. Base fixes and everything else I am willing to wait on as they trickle out as long as they are on the 'to do' list and not swept under the rug.

Note: By lore fix I don't mean totally write Statesman and Sister Psyche out of the game as if they never existed and replace existing badges. In my opinion that's an appalling lore problem that needs to be fixed before it goes live and is an example of what not to do.

But I'm curious.

How many players would be willing to forego an issue (of major size, not just a .5 or update or something) of new content and whatnot, STRICTLY for the purpose of the rednames throwing all available resources that would normally be allocated to an issue at updating/QoL changes?

This could include stuff like:
  • Fixing all the spelling/grammar mistakes. Since QA won't be testing new powers or maps or graphics, put them to work.
  • All maps, NPCs, groups, etc, get added to the AE. Paging Dr. Aeon...
  • Those items in the longstanding "known issues"? Fix.
  • All the numbers-crunching to balance/fix stuff. Arcanaville, you're ready for your closeup now.
  • Lore fixes - now's the time. EVERYTHING is adjusted to fit one proper, intelligent, well-thought-out timeline. We know the devs read the ParagonWiki - hit the In_game_Timeline page and start from there.
  • Costumes - Dink, we love you. Time to make sure that parts are available across the genders. THAT INCLUDES GIVING MEN THE VENUS SYMBOL AND WOMEN THE MARS SYMBOL.
I am very deliberately not including the PvP issue or bases (PvP because the one suggestion everyone makes is "roll back pre-I13", and bases because if they pull on that web anymore, the whole thing will collapse).

On the other hand, this COULD be the ideal issue for dealing with both issues - especially if the response for bases is to implement something like, say... "Legacy" vs "New."

Legacy bases - they stay as they are. No support, no new stuff, nothing. You get to keep your old base, but you keep all the old problems.
New bases - new tech, new stuff, problems fixed. You have to rebuild from scratch, but now you get access to all the spiffy stuff.

*****

What do you guys think? Would you 'sacrifice' one issue's worth of new content if it meant all those irritating little detracting annoyances that diminish the game bit by bit could just be FIXED?

I would.

THAT I'd do an ad for.

They DO fix stuff, it just takes awhile. Its often on the priority list. The level 1 double xp bug was around for over 2 years before they finally fixed it just after i22. I don't even think it was mentioned in the patch notes.

I've probably posted a suggestion thread or two about this before, but if I had to choose one QoL update for an issue I'd choose Dayjobs myself.

Mission-complete timers for the majority of the bonuses are crap and only encourage reckless speeding in order to get a chance for any kind of bonus. Bonuses that grant out-of-combat regen/recov work similarly bad just because you can't time when you want it to turn on. Without explaining in too much detail, all the dayjob bonuses need to function like Patrol XP or temp powers that only deplete through ACTION, not timers.

Okay, yeah, what Samuraiko's saying will probably never happen, I get that.

But I cannot, for the life of me, believe that you people are almost universally saying that new content should trump bug fixes.

We've had memory leaks out the yin-yang for years.

To this day, I STILL cannot run consecutive Lambda Trials without crashing.

And there's a veritable MOUNTAIN of other bugs/problems that have been around for years, and I know each and every one of you have complained about at least one, at least once or twice, and said "Why is this still happening after all this time?"

You know what? I would take a couple fewer contacts per issue, or one or two months more between issue releases, if it just meant that we could start to see some of these longstanding bugs wiped off the map once and for all. I'm all for new content... but I want my EXISTING content to work, and work well, too!

I'd say that fixing bugs is a separate thing from QoL improvements and spelling/grammar errors, though it's something that should be a constant rather than something that should take over an Issue release.

Had a very similar idea back in 2010..

Issue xx : The Little Things

Didn't seem too popular back then..

Nevertheless, I'd still be on board because it's all the little things that need tweaking that drive the OCD in me totally bonkers..
