Staff 'n stuff

Where is the raucous adulation? Where are the revelers hanging from their windows, party hats jauntily canted to one side? Do we have to wait until the day of to get some excitement going around here?

It seems to me that the best chain is easily precise strike -> serpent's reach -> precise strike -> sky splitter. Am I missing some way to improve it via Achilles heels or FotGs delivered by mercurial or innocuous? I hope not, I'm digging the simplicity of that chain. Good soft control, good balance of perfection building and delivery, and once the second set of ATOs is out precise strike will be a freaking critical hit nightmare monstrosity.

What to pair with it? I was torn between elec and dark but elec won the day when I worked out a build with near-perma hasten, 37% s/l and 27% e/n defense, and enough endurance coming out of its ears to be able to run a million toggles and not even exclusively live in form of the soul. Oooh, aaah.

Come on everyone, catch the staff infection!

You missed AS strike in that chain

Yeah, but you missed innocuous strikes, a damage aura, and two forms! Though I'm not entirely sure what the point of form of the mind is.

I can't decide if I should go Staff/EA or Staff/Elec.

This attack chain got me 198 dps on my staff/da brute on beta w/ t4 reactive. While it may be the best of what Staff has to offer, it is still quite low. Obviously will be a bit higher for a scrapper, but it's still not going to be that great as far as ST dps goes.

Correct me if i am wrong but isn't da a click heavy set? any click means dropping dps, I want to see a wp or sr or any other toggle and forget sets dps actually for a better comparision.

The only click in DA is the heal.

This is the second time I've heard about Staff being very underperforming in ST DPS, any Scrapper mages know anything more about this? I'd love to know a bit more before I drop points on this Tuesday, thanks.

I dunno, it clearly isn't going to be a top tier ST set but I guess that doesn't really bother me given its quality AOE and the fact that the forms give you all kinds of other benefits other scrapper primaries don't even attempt to compete with. It's also a very low EPS primary even before considering form of the soul which should be refreshing coming off of titan weapons. Part of my excitement for it comes from the fact that it'll be the first damage aura scrapper I'll have made in over a year which has little to do with staff itself, but it does synergize very well with the resist sets in particular.

Corrected in the face :P Still I think i wanna see a scrapper with wp or sr pylon times. And if it has bad ST damage than it means it should have a good amount of AoE which is a better thing for scrapper front IMO.

Actually one time Arcanaville demonstrated that the recharge on dark regeneration makes dark armor one of the clickiest melee sets if you actually used it every time it came up on a build with good recharge. I have no recollection of exactly when or where this happened so sadly I can't link. Fortunately most of the time dark armor doesn't need to lean quite that heavily on its heal.

I'm also debating between these two and fighting the urge to go Staff/Regen (I already have a DM/Regen Scrapper).

From what I've read, I'm leaning toward EA for the general utility/survivability. In my mind, though, some kind of Lightning Rod concept seems super cool.

Have a Staff/WP on Beta, and love Staff Fighting. Fast, fun, easy on the Blue Bar, lots of AoE madness! WP is boring, though I understand the draw for people who don;t want to actively focus on their secondary set.

No. The only heal in the set is Dark Regen and I didn't have to use it.

I started a thread in the General AT Discussion area to discuss this, and added in the question of whether the Ela option would work better as a Brute. Please come weigh in with opinions.

Anybody know how good this set would be on a stalker with all the stalker buffs? I would think it would do better dmg than scrappers and brutes due to the fact it gets body for free, and then build up on top of that.

Red Shepherd Staff/EA scrapper. Name reserved, and he will be made as soon as I wake up that Tuesday morning.

Yeah I was debating on if I want to make my staff toon a Scrapper or Brute but I'm going to go Brute.

Mainly because I'll actually take the taunt on this toon and Brutes have the ability to be more of a "tanker" than a Scrapper (higher HP/res caps, etc...).

Not sure if they did it, but I think Scrappers would have the draw of higher +DMG bonus from Form of Body, over Stalkers/Brutes.

That said, I believe Stalkers came out on top with damage, due to FoB being free and having Build Up with it. Not to mention Assassin Strike.

What I'm curious about is if Presice Strike is the best attack to go with, or is Mercurial Blow, which allows the slotting of a -Resist Proc.

Even if the -Resist Proc doesn't make it better, I would think for Tankers who could slot the -Resist Proc and get use out of Bruising, would be better off with MB over PS.

Eh, it's difficult for me to get excited about it now, since it has been dangled like a carrot on the end of a stick for months.

However, I have a staff/ice stalker planned with costume, name, and weapon choice just waiting. I expect it to be vastly superior on a stalker for the reasons brandx stated.

What I REALLY hope is that Mids has an update ready on day 1 of the set being released. If it is not already in there that is.

It's already on City of Data! I don't know about you guys who wait for mids. If you work out your build now not only will you be ahead of the curve, you'll get to use a pen and a napkin, or perhaps some other form of paper if one can conceive of such a thing, to bring it all together.

You get the same % damage bonus for being at FotB lvl 3 (12.75%), and the +damage from using it as a finishing move is proportionally the same (eg, on sky splitter it adds +20% damage).

Now see, Scrappers should have a higher +DMG

You can also just edit it into the mids database yourself.
