Oh NC Launcher, why must we fight?

So lately, I have been clicking my trusty COH icon and the NC Launcher will activate and then open the little Launching Game window. Then it just stops there until I force a close from the task manager. When I click on it a second time, it'll work just fine. Is anyone else having this issue or is it just my karma justifiably coming to get me?

1) What else is running?
2) When's the last time you defraged that HDD?
3) You said Force-Quit, are you using a Fruit PC? ;-)
5) Play or Play Not, there is no 4.

Can the launcher be uninstalled and reinstalled without losing nad having to reinstall CoH, or are the hopelessly intermingled? If they aren't intermingled, I'd might try that.

Or maybe just bad karma.

I don't click on a CoH icon to start the game, I use the launcher. Is a "direct start" like that even supported any more? It might just be luck that it is working at all.

It's not a direct start. If you read the OP's message that you quoted, they say they click on their CoH Icon and the NC Launcher will activate.

You can create shortcuts for any game through the Launcher so that it puts a shortcut on your desktop that opens the Launcher and starts that specific game.

I have three such shortcuts in addition to the shortcut for the NCLauncher. I have one for Live, one for Test and one for Beta. If I had Aion or Lineage II or some other NCSoft game installed, I'd likely create shortcuts for those as well.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

I have the same situation happening on a brand new Lenovo running Windows 7. The only time I have the lockout happen is if I have already started the NCLauncher prior.

Scenario: I get up in the morning and turn on my pc. I click on the CoH icon and the NCLauncher starts and CoH loads in the background (I do not have to click "Play"). I log out and shutdown CoH. A few hours later I want to play again and I click on CoH, this time the NC Launcher stalls mid load and then CoH shows in Task Manager as "Not Responding". In order to prevent this scenario from happening I have to shut down the NCLauncher Icon in the tool bar on the bottom right of the screen. Then it loads normally if you want to call that normal.

All my drivers are up to date, my pc is decked out even plays 3-D with glasses from Nvidia. I have re-installed CoH over and over and still the problem persists. So I just close out the NCLauncher each time I log out of CoH, a little annoying, but way faster than shutting it all down via Task Manager.

Best regards,
Gangland

Do you have the NCsoft launcher running in the background while COH is running?

The NCSoft Launcher has an option in one of its menus to auto-close itself after launching a game. Try turning that on - it helped me a bit.

This is a good idea regardless - I haven't checked it in awhile but the NCSoft Launcher had a memory leak if left running in the tray.

Yes, the launcher is a completely separate entity and can be fully uninstalled. Make sure to delete any registry entries for it and any lingering files before you reinstall. If you need help configuring it to play the game post-reinstall, then checkout my links for tips or just ask here and I could probably walk you through it.

I'll try that and see how it goes.

I've had this problem after defragging, uninstalling/reinstalling CoH and even after sacrificing an entire chocolate Easter Bunny to the Launcher Gods. Tastiest sacrifice EVER.

Been having that too, sometimes when I want to re-open the launcher via the tray icon, I'll only get a "blank" window I have to force close.

Started to troobleshoot this with customer support, but when it got to the step "disable everything at startup" to see if it was conflicting with any other program, I gave up because it was much more trouble than just having to force close it to restart it.

However Black Pebble, I do seem to recall it only does it after I have played and quit COH, and therefore with the launcher running in the background while the game runs.

I never click the CoH icon anymore, just the NCLauncher icon. Then when it comes up I choose CoH, Live Test or Beta, depending on which one I want.

I have it set to auto exit everytime the game launches.

I never have had any problem as described in the OP, and I'm still running Vista Home Edition.

Same here. This was happening most of the time for me until I set it to close after starting the game. Hasn't happened to me since.

I had the same problem.

I finally had to set it to close after launch.

I don't like it, because I liked that would download patches for me, and now.. of course... it won't.

I'll give that launcher trick a try- force-quitting every other time I want to play is getting OLD.

I have to end program the first time I launch it, and it opens fine the second time. This happens every time, thought it was just my problem. It's not really an inconvenience though as i am used to it by now.

Setting it to close after I exit COH seems to work. Still an odd thing, though.

I have the exact same issue. I have to quit out through task manager every time I play. This has only started happening after I turned the NCSoft Launcher to close after running and then changing it back. Turning it back to closing after launching has fixed the issue.

I've never had this problem on my computer, but my friend does. Every time I've played on his computer I've had to force close with taskmanager on the first attempt and then it works fine the 2nd try, exactly like others are reporting here.

I thought he did have it set to auto close the launcher, but I'll check.

I've encountered the launcher not responding after CoH has been played on all my computers. I have to force it to close then reopen it.

Might as well not have the option to minimize to tray...

Honestly, I've never had an issue with the Launcher taking up an unacceptible amount of resources. Most the time I have it set to auto-close, but now and then I test things for others and accidentally leave the settings defaulted only to find it sitting in the background quietly. Granted, I'm using XP x86 w/ 4Gb RAM and only a 256Mb GPU, but it still doesn't give me any trouble. Many people don't seem to be as lucky, hense why the suggestion is to normally leave it closed after launch.
