    A Mastermind has 803.

    A Tank would have 1874.

That is a massive difference IMO. Even if you are at the soft cap, you will eventually get hit. A tank or scrapper can easily shrug off 100, 200 even up to 500 damage with out much threat. A mastermind cannot so easily take a few hits like that (I am not forgetting about bodyguard mode). You would have to constantly heal pets to keep them from dying, to keep yourself from getting overwhelmed. Also, pets are pretty frail. They do not have the one hit KO coding that players have. You have to work to keep aggro off of pets and on you. Masterminds can get mezzed :/

I am not saying masterminds themselves are frail or dumb. They are amazing and can do some pretty cool stuff. But to compare them to a tank is to forget about what a tank can do and exaggerate what a mastermind can do. A tank is supposed to take damage, dealing damage as a secondary. A mastermind is supposed to deal damage with a supporting role as it's secondary.
With most MM's they do not rely on BG Mode alone. Example: My Thugs/Dark has tons of debuffs, slows and added def and res for all through Leadership and Shadow Fall. My buffs/debuffs do not include what Fluffy brings and he is perma. Outside of AV's or GM's all enemies are nearly bottomed out on To Hit so I rarely get touched even running 0/+8's. Once I slotted all my incarnates as a +3 with the lore pets I rarely even have a pet drop below half health. Twilight Grasp is so fast on recharge I can nearly spam it.

Oh yeah I can shrug of Alpha Strikes from any AV/GM not named Positron, even with Posi he just kills my pets and I resummon, the end result is the same... Positron face plants.

I may not farm as fast a SS/Fire/Mu Brute, but I can do just fine. The only draw back is that I can tend to cuase lag on crappy pcs once I have all my pets out and I burnout for Double GW.

    Seeking Advice

Let me preface this post so you kinda have an idea where I am coming from. This Brute is my first melee toon since Pre-ED (Issue 6?). Since then I have been playing a Thugs/Dark MM.

Well I am seeking advice on my current build. The idea behind this build was to have tons of recharge, tons of end (from Performance Shifter Procs) and tons of accuracy from set bonuses. I was hoping to be a non-stop fist pumping fool. Well I can do that against Smashing/Lethal/Psionics, however against anything else I quickly take the dirt nap.

I want to increase my def/res against all the other damage types while not gimping my original "Punch your lights out" plan. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

    Here is the build.

  3. I have the same situation happening on a brand new Lenovo running Windows 7. The only time I have the lockout happen is if I have already started the NCLauncher prior.

Scenario: I get up in the morning and turn on my pc. I click on the CoH icon and the NCLauncher starts and CoH loads in the background (I do not have to click "Play"). I log out and shutdown CoH. A few hours later I want to play again and I click on CoH, this time the NC Launcher stalls mid load and then CoH shows in Task Manager as "Not Responding". In order to prevent this scenario from happening I have to shut down the NCLauncher Icon in the tool bar on the bottom right of the screen. Then it loads normally if you want to call that normal.

All my drivers are up to date, my pc is decked out even plays 3-D with glasses from Nvidia. I have re-installed CoH over and over and still the problem persists. So I just close out the NCLauncher each time I log out of CoH, a little annoying, but way faster than shutting it all down via Task Manager.

  4. Here is one "On the Cheap" side of coming back. Check your PlayNC Master Account and see which Retail Keys you have already added (City Of Heroes Retail, COV Good vs Evil Edition, Going Rogue). The head to Amazon and search for City of Heroes. Buy the retail copies of the Versions you have not purchased (COV Collector's Edition, CoH Architech Edition, etc.) most you can find for around $3.99-$7.99, I found Going Rogue for $.01 cent plus $2.50 for shipping and handling. Depending on how many retail versions you buy you can be out the door for less than $7.00-10.00 per month of VIP Premium Time. You get all the rewards (Vet Rewards, Paragon Points, Monthly Server Transfer) plus you get permanent access to what ever content and bonuses that are included with the Retail Purchase (Jump Packs, Badges and Costume Sets). This is the way I choose to come back that way I can test the water for a few months before I decide that I want to prem up again full time. So far it has been totally worth it.

    Hope it helps,

    Gangland
  5. Chad is pro. He did exactly what I wanted to do, but was unable to. Chances are you are using the CoH Launcher. Try downloading the NC Soft Launcher. The only reason I even knew the difference was due to the fact that I had Lineage and Guild Wars, so I used the one launcher for them all. Hope you get it up and running.

    Best regards,
    Gangland
  6. When you say the you are downloading the "Game Launcher" are you refering to the CoH Game Launcher or the NCSoft Game Launcher? I used to use the CoH Game Launcher, however it quit working a while back and I had to start using the NCSoft Game Launcher. Also try checking your firewall settings to see if you might inadvertently be blocking the download.

Hope you are able to start playing,
    Gangland
  7. Thank you Hopeling. Now I can feel comfortable telling someone that I am 50+2.

    Thanks again,
    Gangland
  8. So I just recently got Lore and Alpha to the 3rd slot which I think does the level shift. Alpha is Spiritual Total Core Revamp and Lore is Cimerorans Total Core Improved Ally. I understand that Alpha, Lore and Destiny are the only current incarnate powers that offer a level shift or improve your level shift.

My question is: Am I 50+1 or 50+2? How do I check myself? I can look at other people and see their 50+1 level status, however I honestly do not know where to look mine up. I see people in chats saying they are 50+3 or 50+2 all the time.

Thanks in advance for any help.

    Best regards,
    Gangland
  9. That is awesome. Your response just made me fall in love with Interface. From a MM's perspective Diamagnetic and Reactive are starting to look pretty good.

    Thanks for ther response.

    Gangland
  10. So I am a MM. Thugs/Dark/Soul Mastery to be more precise. I have not taken any of the primary attacks and only started doing the Incarnate Trials last week. My only damaging attacks that are used during itrials are Soul Storm, Soul Tentacles, and Howling Twilight. All the tool tips imply that the Interface proc is only activated on "Damaging Attacks".

So I have 2 questions. Do any of my pet attacks have a chance to activate the proc (Lore Pets have a chance is my understanding when I read the tool tip)?

If they do not, is Interface even worth slotting past the first one since I will probably not see very many procs.

I chose Gravitic, thinking that my thugs will not activate the proc. If they do it seems that Reactive might be the best choice.

    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

    Best regards,

It can be hard to manage a new player when you're also trying to run a league trial; I could see a frustrated leader being short with you.

But, no, I've never seen "learn to play" in game.
Never seen it, yet you know how to spell it out... oh the ironies. I could totally understand if I was wasting the leaders time for like 10mins or something, but the kicks came in the time it took me to type that I did not know what to do. Again, I was not complaining about the kicks, it was probably warranted, especially if I was holding the group up. I just felt it was better to come here because in game people are usually there to play, not provide player support for the uninformed.

Based on your posts I must assume that you conduct yourself differently in game from that of your Forum persona.

If they ask you "Are you coming?" then they are asking you to go to the same zone as the rest of the group so they can start again. You have to be in the same zone if you are in a pre-formed team or league.

If you don't want to go to the same zone as everyone else, you can just ask the leader to open the trial (this is normally the case) then quit the team/league and quickly re-queue. As long as they don't fill the team or league (which they shouldn't if you've talked to them about it) or close the trail (which again they shouldn't if they're expecting you to re-queue) then you'll just enter the trial again like you did the first time.

I can't believe this is actually hard to find out in-game. It's not hard to say to your team "I'm not familiar with the LFG tool, what do I need to do?" Maybe there are some servers where other folks won't talk to you about stuff, but I haven't found them yet. I have a hard time believing that you're being kicked for no reason. More likely you were asked several times to do something (quit and re-queue, or come to zone) and you just ignored them.

Well as I stated I just recently came back. I have done the LFG thing a total of 4 times. 2 times I was kicked shortly after they asked "Gangland you coming?" to which I replied that I do not know how to get back. The other 2 times I just quit and requeued. I asked in game and got the standard "Noob! L2Play" responses. That is why I asked here. So your assumptions of me ignoring them are incorrect. I could honestly care less what you find a hard time believing, your experience and mine differ. Thanks for your input though.

    Best regards,
    Gangland
  13. So I start out in LFG and join an Incarnate Trial after about 5 mins of waiting. We complete the trial and then someone says "One more time?" or "Let's do BAF". Then someone else will say "Ok I'll reque". Shortly after I will be kicked or they will ask "Gangland you coming?"

Here in lies my dilema. Even though I have been playing off and on since they came out with the game, I just recently started using the LFG System and unlike another MMO that offers you a little icon to teleport into the instance or in this case the Trial, I can't seem to find my way back into the next Trial. What do I need to do? Is there an icon that I am missing? Is there a tab that says "Click to teleport to instance"? I feel like a total ****** having to quit a smooth running team only to hop right back into the LFG Queue.

TLDR Version: How do I requeue once a LFG Trial is completed (So I join with the group I just ran with.)?

    Best regards,
    Gangland
  14. Update: Well after reading all your posts and noticing that I can actually create each slot power 2 ways, I ran 2 more BAFs and I now have Spiritual slotted to the 2nd power (33%Recharge and 33% Stun). I am super excited how attainable it all appears to be. I even have 2 purple rare components which I think I will save for the last power slot (Radial Paragon?) .

Oh yeah I am 75% complete with Judgement.

    Thanks again, you all rock!

    Gangland
  15. Thanks for all the responses. I will be in LFG queue tonight and gather all the threads and merits I can. Your responses make it sound far less daunting than I thought it was going to be.

    Thanks again,
    Gangland
  16. So as the title says I am pretty sure I screwed up.

After being away from COH for a while playing another MMO, I came back to try out Freedom and purchased the "Going Rogue" Expansion. I started the incarnate stuff and got my Alpha Unlocked. I gathered all the supplies to create the first item that would go into my Spiritual Slot for the 33% Recharge Buff, well in my excitement I screwed up and created Vigor... which is a heal buff.

Is there anyway I can undo this mistake? Or do I have to gather all the items again and creat the Spiritual one as well?

I completed my first BAF so I have tons of Incarnate Threads, is there anyway I can turn these into Incarnate Shards? Or do I have to wait for the shards to drop from enemies during missions?

    Any advice is appreciated.

    Best Regards,
    Gangland
  17. I just purchased a retail copy of Going Rogue, so I could access the incarnate/pretorian portions of the game, based on conversations with other players I was expecting to see 400 paragon points, 1 server transfer, some sort of reward merit and the one month of VIP access. So far all I have gotten is the VIP Access and Server Transfer. I am not sure if I will be getting the other items. I am not sure, but it seems like they might have changed the way they award the Paragon Points. Just a few weeks back you were able to purchase Invention License with Reward Merits so you could play with IO Sets Build as a Free Account, this is no longer available.

I hope you get your points.
