Beast Mastery: What Secondary Power Compliments It?

Just like the title states. I have a Plant Control/Earth Assault Dominator I want to change over to Beast Mastery. In keeping with her theme, I am looking at Poisons or Thermal. I know the effects of Thermal; however, I am not familiar with Poisons. Poisons seem more suite with my character's theme yet Thermal has group heal where Poisons does not. Any opinions or guidance here would be appreciated. Thanks.

Current active characters: Dragon Maiden (50+3 Brute SS/WP/PM), Black Widow Maiden (50+1 Night Widow), Catayclasmic Ariel (50 lvl Defender - Kin/DP), Quantumshock (50 lvl Elect/Energy/Energy), American's Defender (38 lvl Tanker - SD/Mace), Spider-Maiden (15 lvl Corruptor - RB/PD) & Siren Shrike (15 lvl Defender - Sonic/Sonic). My entire stable.

I made a BM/DM MM (that's kind of fun to say) on Beta and can say that I found having a strong heal very needful. The beasts of BM seemed rather squishy to me. Either on par or maybe just slightly above Ninjas in survivability. That being said, I haven't played around with Poison since it's been buffed. It's entirely possible that there is enough debuff in the set now that it would compensate for the survivability, but I wouldn't think so. I think if I were to make a BM on live, I would likely go with Thermal for the nice resists and the heals.

If you have a Plant/Earth Dom you are NOT going to be pleased with the meh performance of BM with anything trust me.

The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.

At least they aren't Mercs.

On topic: I plan to go storm or dark.

Thermal or sonic should do really well, stacking on the henchman resists.

I toyed around with a beast/poison on test and enjoyed it. The animation for antidote makes it look like your tossing them a little treat for being obedient pets.

If you say so. Pain Domination wants to compliment it, but is too bashful. And Dark Miasma's too insensitive to keep its mouth shut.

Thank you all for your input. I started with Thermal; however, I'm not sure I like it. Watching flaming critters running around with fire and plasma shields is a bit disturbing. I full expect PETA to show up in Atlas Park to protest my treatment of my pets! I think I'll redo her and try Poison, if that doesn't work...Dark Misama or Pain..probably pain since it does not require me to 'hit' a target to heal.

Dark or Time are going to provide you with the best babysitting capacity for your very squishy, melee only pets. They are probably the only sets I would personally consider playing with Beast Mastery, since you're going to need all the buffs, heals, and debuffs you can get to keep your pets alive, and the controlling and slowing effects will be necessary to stop them from chasing enemies all over every map you step into.

@Draeth Darkstar
Virtue [Heroes, Roleplay], Freedom [Villains], Exalted [All Sides, Roleplay]
Code:
I24 Proc Chance = (Enhanced Recharge + Activation Time) * (Current PPM * 1.25) / 60*(1 + .75*(.15*Radius - 0.011*Radius*(360-Arc)/30))
Single Target Radius = 0. AoE Non-Cone Arc = 360.

Traps so you can send them in as bombers. Or whip support when it comes out

/Time would definitely be optimum, with /Dark Miasma as a close second. I however went with /Sonic due to having too much of the first two. Sonic pairs nicely with the beast's innate resistance, and has very nice debuffs.

Also the more people I get to use Sonic the higher chance there is of me being on a team with another sonic, which basically makes everyone invincible.

I went with storm mainly since I have yet to have a real stormy but also for a few other reasons.

a) Concept... its a druid/nature master type of character who I also plan to get panther stealth for both travel and the notion of shapeshifting.

b) Personal Damage... I like dealing dmg myself as well as having pets with my MM's and the pseudopet nature (more static damage value unhindered by AT damage scales) of tornado and lightning storm let me dish out some significant damage on my own.

c) Recharge Intensive Pet Set... Tornado lets me slot the recharge intensive pet uniques for added protection for my pets. BM doesn't have a gang war-esque power.

d) Versatility... Storm has a varied toolkit. Heals, buffs, debuffs, hard and soft controls

It may not be everyone's cup of tea but it works for me!

Do we try to translate the strange metaphors presented to us by GuyPerfect or just disregard his input? If you are willing to take the alpha aggro dark miasma is highly effective. Ideally you start with fearsome stare since it applies the strong tohitt debuff (especially when enhanced as such) and enemy groups vulnerable to the mez wont even attack you for it. Then you simply drop a tar patch beneath them, toggle darkest night on a central foe, and send the pets in to kill everything. Highly safe and effective but the pets will only be "buffed" by Shadow Fall. It depends how much faith you put into debuffs over buffs... but dark miasma is a good set for any MM/Def/Corr sets simply because it gives you the power to set up your kill-zone easily with little to no retaliation from enemies. You CAN make beefy pets and heal them well with thermal, but you also have to throw them at the foe and hope they're beefed enough to win.

Yeah I am going with Pain Dom - can skip a lot so you can get the MM attacks, and still keep the pets alive most of the time.

My Beast Mistress is at level 31 now and I picked Thermal and its been great. I have the heal of Warmth for both the minions and myself when I solo plus the added defenses for the minions from the Thermal and Plasma shields. When I am teaming I have 4 different buffs along with the 2 heals and rez and I am now approaching the stage where I will pick up the 2 debuffs thermal has as well. Buffs, Debuffs, Heal/rez and good damage.. what's not to love?

I could only be soft on animals so the only thing I could do conceptually is choose Time. I'd be a person from the future with animals from the future. Things like "my animal in a burning oil slick" is a no no.

It wasn't advice, actually. I was joking about the incorrect use of the word "compliment," just like the title states.

I was amused by it, especially since I didn't notice that it wasn't "complement" in the title until your post.
