Stealth Nerf to Inner Inspiration
Have you filed a bug report?
There was somebody whose name escapes me that said it appears it recharges by in-game time now, not global, whether you're logged in or not.
I should probably test this myself...
The thread I started a few days ago on it is here.
Rigel Kent was the one who thinks it's some weird new recharge mechanic.
Personally, I don't think they've created some new whack job of a mechanic to nerf a power that gives you the possibility of 3 medium to 3 large inspirations every 30 minutes, when the game itself drops them like Cheeto Dust on a gamer's keyboard. I think they broke it.
If it is a Stealth Nerf on a power that essentially costs $15 US Dollars*, then I think I want my token back so I can put it to use on something else.
* 1 token for 1200 PPs purchased @ $5/400PPs = $15.00
You can argue sub costs and benefits to make it sound free, but for those who bought the points to get the token, to unlock this power, you're just wasting your time trying to warp the "value/cost"

(By the way, if you want to have large inspirations as drops without subscribing, you're going to have to fill up Tier 8, meaning you have to spend that token on Inner Inspiration anyway.)
Character index
The Inner Inspiration vet reward appears to have been changed. Now, when I log in the power is greyed out for about 5 minutes. It doesn't matter if I've just used it on another character and switched or if I've been logged off for days. It's greyed out upon login for about 5 minutes.
I spent a token on this and am unhappy. Is anyone else seeing this? |
Edit: Reading the responses, I suppose it may be that I haven't logged out with it still charging yet.

[Inner Inspiration Lock]
You're granted this when you click the power, and it lasts 30 minutes of in-game time. If you use Inner Inspiration and log out, you can log back in with Inner Inspiration recharged*, but this power won't let you use it for however long it still had left when you logged out.
Basically they've made Inner Inspiration not recharge while you're logged out. Or at least as close as they could come to that.
* Assuming you wait long enough before logging the character back in. It doesn't recharge instantly.

If someone was rotating their off-line characters to use II to get inspirations, more power to them. Very little gain for the effort, IMO.
This isn't a big deal in and of itself to me. It annoys me because:
- It was undocumented. If they did this under the auspices of it being an exploit, based on any so-called "exploit" we've discussed so far in the thread, I think someone needs a good smack.
- It seems overkill for anything we've thought of in this thread. This relates back to the first bullet. The idea that logging in, creating random inspirations, then logging out is exploitative boggles my mind. There are other "exploits" I've seen mentioned elsewhere, like changing builds to recharge it. You can only do that every 15 minutes, so I'm not seeing that as very scary either.
- It's completely unclear what's happening in game. There have been several threads by players not understanding what's up with the power, and also people chatting about it in global channels I frequent.

Well let's be honest, inner inspiration did and still does make it easy to keep a tray full of whatever inspirations you happen to prefer. The old behavior meant that just logging onto different characters to do your marketing would produce three medium or large inspirations per character essentially every time you logged in. Now it will be slightly less frequent. The change has essentially no effect on the power in normal play. You can argue that there was no need to curtail "insp farming" or whatever one would call it but clearly the devs did not agree and this change doesn't seem like it really hurts anything. If I had to guess I would say that they were considering adding future powers that are like inner inspiration but that may have effects that the devs care more about controlling access to.

I doubt we'll see a response that clarifies what was done and why.
The way it worked before the timer on the power was independent of other characters.
Example of BEFORE:
- Character A logs on and uses Inner Inspiration and logs off ten minutes later, with 20 minutes remaining for power recharge.
- Character B logs on and uses Inner Inspiration and logs off fifteen minutes later, with 15 minutes remaining for power recharge.
- Character A logs back on, but still has 5 minutes left until recharge.
- Character C logs on and Inner Inspiration is ready for use.
Example of NOW:
(This was last night and I'd been on vacation and away from COH since March 1st.)
- Character A logs on and Inner Inspiration is full size, but greyed out. After five minutes it un-greys and can be used. Use it, finish mission, log out.
- Character B logs on and Inner Inspiration is full size, but greyed out. After five minutes it un-greys and can be used. Use it, log out.
- Character C logs on and Inner Inspiration is full size, but greyed out. After five minutes it ungreyes and can be used. Use it, log out.
-Character A logs back on and Inner Inspiration isn't recharged yet because it hasn't been 30 minutes yet.
The timer is still independent for each character, the devs have just added 'dead time' to it where it is unusable after you log in. Now that sucks. Name me something else that even if recharged is 'dead' and inaccessible when you log in. And for what, because someone might flip through a few characters for a couple extra inspirations?
I'm not happy because two of my friends spent real money for extra tokens to get /vault /auctionhouse and Inner Inspiration because I recommended them after they saw me use them. It also messes up my own timing on how I do things; I log in, sort my character's inspirations and storage, if needed buy Grai Matter, then take off for missions.
Bleh. Unnecessary nerf to fun.

*Shrug* I dunno, I don't get why it's such a big deal. Hell, most of the time, I forget to ever even use the power or have my inspiration tray full already when I log in. My biggest benefit from it is getting T3 inspirations on a new character and being able to dump them on the AH for a fair chunk of change for a level 1.

Wanted: Origin centric story arcs.
If you've only played an AT once (one set combo) and "hate" it - don't give up. Roll a different combo. It may just be those sets not clicking for you.

This sucks. What next, making Fallout or Elude not recharge when logged out?

Is this change the end of the world? Will I /ragequit? Nah, of course not. But I admit, it is kind of annoying that I can't log on a hero, check their auctions, move 'em for a day job, and grab three more Insps.

I might be misunderstanding you - but I'm not seeing any dead time here at all.
Log in character 1: Hero: Pinnacle
Eat a few inspirations to make room, hit Inner Inspiration (total time, under a minute.) Inner Inspiration throws a few insps in and starts to recharge.
Immediate log out to character select.
Log in character 2: Hero: Pinnacle
Has space in inspiration tray. Hit inner inspiration. Works immediately. Time between last use and this one, given the 30 second logout timer, MAYBE a minute and change.
Not sure what you're seeing. Which server are you on? I can try there. There might be something goofy going on there.
Let me test this.

NP.
Just hopped on liberty - same thing.
Hero: Ate 3 insps to make room. hit inner inspiration. Awarded inspirations. Log to character select.
Hero2: Log in, immediately hit Inner Inspiration, awarded insps.
Total time between: Under a minute.
I'm really not sure what's going on with yours.

So basically now it actually works like it should? I mean don't get me wrong, I'm upset, hurt even, that I can't fill the inspiration trays on thirty characters with the good inspirations before I even log into those characters for serious to do some missions.
This is trivial.
What this DOES mean is the developers are probably playing around with the same tech that the fris- sorry, the "flying disc" uses.
You use the inner inspiration power, it gives you the inspirations and a buff (which I'd bet is technically "another power" [like the ones you get that are always on?], and that could later be used for something cool, instead of something that causes some players a trivial inconvenience.
you could have it all
