Lifetime Subscription?
I now have enough money in my checking account, so that if I wanted to, I could get a Lifetime Subscription to this game, provided such a thing is still possible. Is it still possible, and, how do I go about getting one? Thanks for the help on this!

Lifetime Subscriptions were never an option for City of Heroes.

Huh? There was at one time, so, I thought, that, it was still available. If that option was taken away, why was it taken away?

You're probably thinking of either DC Online of Champions Online, both of which had lifetime options available before they went live.

Don't most MMORPG Games, at launch, have this option, for a little while? If they never had it for this game, wny didn't they? Just curious, is all.

You can buy a year subscription right? And if the doctors gave you 10 months to live then you would have a lifetime subscription. So you see, lifetime subscriptions are available. The real question is why they are only given to some. This is fundamentally unfair.
Out of curiousity, would a Lifetime Subscription be a good thing, or not, for this game?

If all of us veteran players who have been supporting the game since launch had bought lifetime subscriptions, the developers would have run out of money years ago and the game would probably no longer exist.
Lifetime subscriptions are great at generating a big lump of cash at the beginning of a game's life. But then you have a whole lot of people who have full access to the game for life that you will never get another dime out of. End result: 100,000 players.....and $0 income from any of them.

Games will offer the lifetime option when they need a large influx of cash to keep the game going right after launch. If the Devs can make it a few months with the cash they already have on-hand, then it's not a good option for them over time, so they likely wouldn't offer it.
At this point, the game is almost 8 years old. "Lifetime" for this game might not be all that long, so how much would the Devs even charge for it? The game may go on another 2 years, or 5, or even 10 with some upgrades. Which do they put the price point at? Basically, the Lifetime subscription is great at the launch of a game, but not so much once the game is older. So it probably wouldn't be a good option for the game right now.

SOME MMORPGs offer a lifetime subscription when they launch, but that's relatively new. I don't think that WOW did, for instance. If they do now, it's more recent than the game. Some new MMOs do offer them, and then die shortly after release, meaning that it was a really bad investment for the players who bought them.

Lifetime subscriptions at launch have been around for a while (I know Second Life offered them back in 2003), but they're usually only offered when the game's success is uncertain. There was no way that WoW was going to be a failure, so they didn't offer lifetime subscriptions.

That said, while lifetime subscriptions might have been a thing for a while now th number of bigger MMOs that use them is vanishingly small. I think I could count the ones I'm aware of on one hand.

Most of the ones I am aware of offered them at launch and then went free to play shortly afterward or disappeared altogether.
None of them were a smashing success. And at the time CoH was launched, it was HIGHLY successful, only being beaten by Eternalmission for a while.
100,000 players is still a good benchmark to determine a successful MMO, and CoH has hovered in that vicinity or higher for 8 years now.
None of the games that offered lifetime subscriptions can say the same thing.

You could purchase 1200 months of VIP - that should pretty much give you a lifetime subscription. If it doesn't then you shouldn't have much reason to complain.

They do offer (around December) a "12+2" month subscription for the rpice of the normal 12 month sub.

Buy enough NCSoft stock to get yourself a seat on their Board of Directors, and you could probably get a lifetime subscription as a fringe benefit. Not very cost-effective, though. Does Bill Gates play this game? :-)
