I like it. It's always kind of depressing to hit cap and realize the game's reward system has suddenly turned its back on you.
Hmm...This could be an interesting way to extend things. For example, if you filled your bubbles, you could go to some special contact (States/Recluse/Lady Grey/Whoever), and you could select "Choose a special reward", and get a table containing:
*1 Alignment Merit
*1 Astral Merit (VIP-only)
*4-6 iShards (VIP-only)
*30 Reward Merits
*Possibly some small pack of special costume parts, or whatnot.
Or something like that.

If Masterminds didn't suck, they'd be the most powerful AT in the game.

I was thinking a choice of a summoned attack pet. Any of the existing ones ... but it's commandable like the MM pets.
Or, any of the existing temp powers. Give it a week use, a shorter recharge.
Also, give the large insp pops when you hit LVL. You could plan a boss aound it, of it would be a nice save. It would be nice to continue the "grats"
John Hancock signed.
Goodbye. Not to the game, but the players. Goodbye. Everyone, remember to have fun. That's all I can say.
this actually sounds like a great idea
but keep in mind... your influence gain would drop if you began gaining xp again. Not that most people would care about that... just figured i'd point that out.

Did everybody in this thread forget that we have an endgame system now?
No. /unsigned. Pointless.
"You don't lose levels. You don't have equipment to wear out, repair, or lose, or that anyone can steal from you. About the only thing lighter than debt they could do is have an NPC walk by, point and laugh before you can go to the hospital or base." -Memphis_Bill
We will honor the past, and fight to the last, it will be a good way to die...
I like the idea, I'd go for automatic reward merits, making a contact would overcomplicate things imo. That'd make people want to run regular tfs maybe - the only kill all high end tfs I see nowadays are 'shard ITFs', but ITF has an unusual number of mobs (since the shard drop rate is low, you need a tf with tons of enemies) and shards are vip-only.
Love it. The reward wouldn't have to be anything huge. A handful of merits seems about right. Or perhaps a choice, as Kirsten proposed.
I came here to say the same thing, but tbh the 2 things are different. Endgame rewards that aren't necessarily incarnate related could be a good thing. Alot of people (not myself, but i notice it alot) complain how the only thing that matters now is incarnates and incarnate progression. This could be a great addition for people who aren't VIP and/or don't like incarnate content and it's not like the 2 couldn't co-exist either.

Though being able to run 10 Tips a day would be a nice equivalent too >_>.

I'd love to keep earning "experience" and getting some reward after filling a "fake level".
Incarnates doesn't count, as has been explained before. Not only do you have to be a VIP just to utilize the Incarnate system (I would deffo make sure "fake levels" could be earned by freebies and preemies), but you have to do crazy ish to get your rewards. I vastly prefer regular content.

What if the progress bar for the post 50 'xp' was in another area? If the issue is just seeing your xp bar full all the time, that seems a bit silly to me.

Honestly do we really need more rewards for 50s? We have Incarnate stuff (Shards, Threads, Astrals, Empyreans), Reward Merits, Alignment Merits, Tickets, and you're still getting influence, prestige, salvage and recipes (and only 50s can use the purples).
As for Incarnate somehow "not counting", if that doesn't count then what will? The devs probably won't give any kind of post-50 reward that is decent and available to free players, especially if it's even remotely farmable.

It completely cheapens the achievement. I like looking at my experience bar and seeing it completed.

Incarnate stuff doesn't count because you can only get it by doing specific things, while XP comes from doing basically all things. I also like the idea of having options. Particularly, it means that VIPs can get Incarnate things out of it, allowing them to unlock Incarnate powers without being the Well's errand boy.
On the scene is your number one reporter, Jenny Typealotta with a special COX Report. We turn it over to Jenny now.
Hi, Jenny.
Jenny:
It has been brought to our attention that an original idea from the new age OP has just angered MobtheGlob. Can you give our viewers the details that started this outrage?
Jenny:
So, the New Age has upset the old age with a new idea of change?
Jenny:
You're saying that the old age is being washed away by this change, thus turning the scene into a violent rampage of text?
Jenny:
I see. Can you get us closer to the flames that are rising now from the back?
Jenny's cameraman aims to the crowd of the old:
Oh my! Can we get a shot of the new crowd?
Camera switches:
The situation seems dire. Jenny, any words before we send our viewers to the forecast for the day?
Jenny:
As always, touching our hearts Jenny. Stay safe.
Jenny:
And there you have it. Our reporter on the scene in this flame war of Old Ways to New Age, Jenny Typealotta, has just relayed the vivid images of the growing threat of 2012's change. Captured here, first, on CoX Live.
We will keep you updated as the world continues to turn, and will update you if this frustration grows.
Now, your weather for this week..
Weatherman:
I really like the idea of gaining a reward of some type where the next level would have been. Gaining a reward merit (Or two!) every time you refill your XP bar would be very cool.
Given how quickly one can level up from 49 to 50 (one day for me on the brute I got to 50 the other day, and I wasn't even trying that hard -- I'm sure it could have happened in half that time if I'd really pushed it), I take issue with the assumption that this "wouldn't be worth the effort to farm," unless the reward were one or two regular ol' reward merits or, if the reward were something more substantial, the earning of such rewards were placed on a timer like the one for alignment/Empyrian merits.
I do kind of like the idea of the level-up inspiration burst if nothing else... actually, let me amend that:
I do kind of like the idea of the level-up inspiration burst and nothing else.
FUN FACT: That burst of light when you level up is actually the effectiveness escaping from your enhancements all at once.
There's plenty of stuff in Paragon Market now that can be a decent reward for filling the lvl 50 xp track, and if they're random, it's not like you can 'bank' off of it to somehow get around buying them in the market.
-Enhancement Booster
-Unslotter
-Dual Inspiration
-5 reward merits
-Super Inspiration
-Windfall Temp
And if they're character locked, it's not like you'd be able to save them up and send them to all your lowbies to enjoy. These would just be little perks for your character that you can use to make your character a bit more powerful or versatile.
PS: Oh, and make debt, like, super killer as a 50.
I was thinking yesterday when we were running a task force. There was a combination of 50's and lowbies (Sara Moore).
I know there have been nice additions and QoL improvements for 50's but I was thinking wouldn't be nice if your XP gain counter continued to click away. For every time you fill your 10 bulbs you would gain a "______" ( Reward merit, or some other nice thing). I would think the time spent wouldn't be worth the effort to farm but would be a nice reward.
Thoughts?
