Farewell

Well, it's finally happening. My account is running out and I don't plan to resubscribe.

It's a shame that I don't use any of the new All Access parts, but alas these last few years this has been my forum of choice.
That's why I'm posting this here rather than in City Life. Hopefully nobody objects.

We've had some fun times, talking about geek culture, all the films, tv, comics and (in the old days) video games.
One of my favourite things was coming here and seeing what everyone thought of the latest episodes of Doctor Who. It's funny, when I joined these forums, Doctor Who was still in cancelled status from 1989, and was more or less an internationally unknown cult sci-fi show. Since then I've seen it return to our screens and grow. It gets a good discussion going these days from people all over the globe.

Another big thing these forums (specifically the tech support forums) helped with is selecting and building my various gaming computers over the years. They turned me from someone who only bought pre-mades into someone confident enough to build my own.

And finally, my thoughts on City of Heroes and why I'm leaving.
This is a great game, one of my first MMOs and honestly, the only one that ever caught my attention. It's also one of the best super hero video games in general. However, inevitably, after 7 years, even with all the fantastic content being released, my overall enjoyment of the game has run it's course.
However, I do not regret a single moment of my time playing, from the SG mates I found, to the unfathomably long mega-gaming-athon that was a horrific Dr. Quaterfield Taskforce, to the Hamidon Raids, to hitting my first level 50.
I remember seeing it all, from the first update when capes were introduced, (capes!) To the Hollows and Striga and Croatoa. The remade zones of the Rikti War Zone (née Crash Site) and Faultline. The births of the Rogue Isles and Praetoia.
The original Cryptic studios, being bought, becoming NCNorCal and eventually Paragon Studios
These are all things I shall remember for a long, long time.
So thank you all, from the Developers who made and maintain this game, to the forumites who have chatted with me over the years, you've all made this a thoroughly great 7+ years.

Goodbye!

Can I have your st-- I mean, good luck with your next game and thanks for all the thoughtful posts, particularly here about Doctor Who. It's always a sad occasion when a veteran member leaves an online community, but it's the natural course of things, even in virtual life.

You'll be back! They always come back! *shakes fist*

Just remember, because of the hybrid model, "leaving" is now the equivalent of "comic book death"

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

It's too bad that this section isn't part of the "everybody can post" areas of the forums. It really should be.

(That would definitely be nice. It probably won't happen since the mods have stated they consider this forum to require more effort to monitor than the others, so opening it up to Freems wouldn't only increase their workload.)

One by one, we all disappear. This forum is already a shadow of its former self.

Well, that just sucks.

I don't recall ever having any real discussions with you, myself, but I have been seeing you post here forever. Sad to see you go, but I wish you well in all you do.

Sorry to see you go Zikar. You started about the same time I did (Christmas 2004, it took me 2 months to find the forums). We had some discussions over on Unleashed before I left.

I understand feeling burned out. If it weren't for a few regular buddies that I team with on a regular basis, I might have burned out, too. Sometimes it is time to move on. Maybe you'll be back some day.

Damn skippy, you just dont turn your back on saving the world once, twice or thrice and just think you can live a normal life.

Have fun at the post office Zik and keep an eye on those spiders because they are probably really spying on you (along with all the other wierd crap your gonna catch out of the corner of your eye as well).
