Two things I want point out.
1. He's going over Positron's abilities.
"He's tough, because he's covered in armor."
Yes he is. Because being a dev, you can give him that quality, even though he's a Defender and they're far from armored. How do you think players feel about that kind of thing?
Because I think that is why there's a lot of resentment for the signature characters. Because here is your Iron Man analog, and he can be armored, and get radiation powers and mez protection and whatever and be powerful, and player characters can't.
2. When they talked about Statesman losing his wife (3:15) , they cut to an in game shot of what could be Monica Richter, with an 'angelic' aura. Maybe they're going to have her beckon Statesman into the afterlife in his big final cutscene?

At this point, it's a "Do as we say, not as we do" thing, with regard to BaBs and the Phalanx. Which is like a lot of this game.

Furthermore, the signature characters always had access to powerset combos that players never had... until Incarnates and IOs. Now you can have a mostly soft-cap Defender who can sometimes boost Defense to over 120% on their own. Or a Melee character with a Nuke. We're now in their league... which was the whole point of the Vidoc and the thrust of the SSA.

Regarding BaBs:
It's one thing to play fast and loose with the lore so your creativity isn't limited.
It's another thing entirely to do so because you couldn't be bothered.
I think, a true creative type would capitalize on the 'mistake' of BaBs being in the Phalanx, rather than ignoring it as they seem to be.
Were it my call, I'd have the devs crafting a low-mid level arc that has BaBs being inducted into the Phalanx. In other worlds, I'd turn a mistake into an opportunity.
But then again, what do I know; I'm just the deranged Tanker damage guy.

Well I tried to watch the vidoc on youtube, but the horrible lack of balance between the voices and the background music made me quit about halfway. The music was way too loud and I missed half of what they were talking about. It was not worth the effort to watch.

While I realise that those are just the limits of the game, having signature characters that CAN have this really does play with my emotions more often than not.

He's not really a blasting Tanker. Like player costume armor, it doesn't affect Defense.
