Magic Carpet @ Paragon Market
Honestly, it does kind of bother me that all these cool travel concepts are getting introduced as purchaseable travel powers, as if suggesting that my fliers that match them shouldn't actually take Fly at all. Especially with a flying carpet, it seems like we can jump around on the thing as though we're on the ground and animate all our powers accordingly.

The only reason to take Fly now is "concept," or if you are muling an IO that will only go in a Travel Power. If the Board will not work, due to it being ugly, you preferring your toggles stay on while you fly or your hero needing to actually up-up-and-away, then Fly it is.
The extra power slot with the Board opens up a lot of possibilities.
"How do you know you are on the side of good?" a Paragon citizen asked him. "How can we even know what is 'good'?"
"The Most High has spoken, even with His own blood," Melancton replied. "Surely we know."

That's precisely what I don't like about these purchasable powers.

If you make some powers purchasable, it changes the landscape for those powers that are not. Perhaps Fly could be purchased as well? But then how do you mule that IO? If you don't mule, purchasable Fly would be better.
I still take/keep Fly for those who should be "flying," and I like the Board. There are now advantages and disadvantages to both. It is a puzzlement.
Should they just make the Travel powers inherent like Stamina and friends? That would pose its own puzzlements.

"Dark Armor is a complete waste as a tanking set."
This power is available at the same time ninja run, beast run, the steampunk jumpy thing is, as well as any of the available travel powers of your choice. At level 4. In addition, you can't do anything at all while on the magic carpet. It shuts off all your powers, just like being in the AH in Praetoria. Not only does it shut them all off, this cuts off your toggles, too, so you have to redo these every time you land. If you are in a mission, and the Rikti see you, o suddenly stealthless one, you have nothing at all to protect you. No armor, no combat jumping, zip, nada.
In what possible way would this be a "purchased advantage"?? Because they don't have to take 1 whole power, with its one whole included slot? The one you can currently pass up because you have half a dozen others that do much the same thing? Which have been out for a couple years now? Or, that people have been skipping entirely since I've been playing these last 5 1/2 years even when they didn't have half a dozen alternatives because "travel powers just don't fit my concept"?
On this thread, people suddenly have complaints that this is somehow unfair, and those with cash in hand are the only ones who get this great and mighty perk. On the beta thread, everyone is saying they like the concept, gosh, how cute, but would never purchase it because it's just a vanity item, with no practical application, at least ninja run lets you keep your powers on.
Clearly, we need to have something to complain about, doggone it! We are mad as hell and we are not going to take it any more! Let's all get together and decide what the complaint is actually going to be, since they are mutually exclusive complaints.
CAST YOUR VOTE FOR THE REASON MAGIC CARPETS ARE HORRIBLE HERE:
1) It's silly and a waste of my hard-earned money! You devs need to give us something useful for our purchases, not just this cute, fluffy stuff!
2) It's silly and a waste of hard-earned power choices! You devs need to give us stuff that is only cute and fluffy and stop skewing the game for those who have deep pockets!
3) I have no idea what I am complaining about, but doggone it, devs, I WANTS IT NAO!!

Yeah, VIP status gives me a whole lot more than Free or Premium:
-400 Points per month.
-1 Reward Token per month.
-1 Free Transfer Token per month.
But my complaint is that we used to get all powers for free, unless you didn't get GR than you didn't get Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning.
But now we have to buy ALL new powers, only one powerset was free for all since i21, the rest are 800Points per powerset. We are already paying for our subs, where is the big advantage of being VIP?
The free Transfer tokens? 5 are collecting dust. 5x800pp is 4000pp wasted!

You get more now than you did before. Period.
The Studio is also churning out more new stuff than they ever did before and so if you want *everything*, then you pay more. Or, pay exactly the same before and enjoy getting more than what you did before.

I was disappointed that the carpet doesn't allow you to keep a weapon out like the rocket board does.
I was all set for my magic-themed Dual Blades Brute to be flying around on a carpet with his weapons out ... >.> |
where I come from, travelling around with your weapon out gets you arrested
Yeah everyone goes ape for that
there's an AH in Praetoria? Cool. Did you pay for that?
I guess the point here is that nobody need pay for this power if they don't want it. Travel powers have steadily been getting less and less important over time - Ninja run was the first indicator, then the lowering of the limit from 14 to... well honestly I forget because I don't often take them these days. They have been obsolete for just a few PP.
Let's just give a moments silence and remember the creators who have passed away and give thanks that the accountants still deem there is life in the old game yet

I'm still holding out for a witch's broom.
A few years ago, I would have been thrilled with this Flying Carpet; I have a character (Arabian Night) who desperately needed some "Middle Eastern" flavor. Alas, as with so much of what has been released recently, it just doesn't do enough to excite me. I have months worth of points stockpiled because there hasn't been anything I've wanted to purchase.
Although these purchasable powers would have been vastly preferable as customization options for the true travel powers, I could live with them, even with their severe limitations, if only they looked better. The color schemes of the Carpet and, especially, the Rocket Board, is completely at odds with any character I would want to use them with. Until these things are customizable or, more realistically, available in multiple color options, I will continue to pass on them.
