Is it because Jack Emmert, the person that created him, left the company?
Maybe he wants him back.

If not, I'd expect the Statesman to be back as all comic book superheroes seem to never stay dead.(2)
(1) - No. Positron's explanation is that they have left the coop so to speak, that CoH is now grown up and Statesman is not needed. They wanted to remove Statesman earlier, but they didn't know how to go about doing so that would make sense

(2) Statesman is GONE. He is Uncle Ben gone. Kaputz. Living no longer.

As was said in Gran Torino, "Your world is nothing more than all the tiny things you've left behind", let CoH be one of those things. Don't forget, forgive.

If you hadn't nailed him to the deck, he'd be pushing up the daisies! His metabolic processes are now history! He's off the twig! He's kicked the bucket, he's shuffled off his mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisible!! THIS IS AN EX-HERO!!
Fixed that for you.

EDIT: I just remember where you can still see him in the game.

I'm just waiting for I-23 to see just how far this removal process goes.

But States himself? Eh, sure he's old fashioned and quite black/white cut-glass...but he's lived a long time. Life does that to you when you're old and you've seen as many people as he's probably seen die.
I know this might be a bit of a necro-post but so be it. My dislike isn't for Statesman as a character. Taking into account the books and comics and game background he is a relatively well rounded character. My problem is that since game launch they have done comparably little with him from the player point of view. I mean there's the Statesman task force and you rescue him during the Maria Jenkins arc. There's never really a basis for developing a point of friendship with the character. At best you're expected to have a case of hero worship for him.

Now fast forward 7 years (To right now). Statesman is dead and we're all expected to be all weepy and upset at it. Sorry, I only weep over people I actually care for and I do not care for Statesman. I wish him no harm, but he's not exactly on my Christmas card list. Even from an in-character stand point the majority of my characters have never actually seen Statesman in person. He'd be like President of the US. You see him on the TV and you hear him make speech but he's not the guy you see walking his dog every morning at 7:08 that you stop and have a quick chat with. If president Obama were killed (No Political messages!!!!), would I recognize a moment of silence for his passing? Yes. Am I going to be all weepy over it? Not particularly.

Torroes_Prime, some old timey players like myself have felt a connection to Statesman. The degree of 'weepy' players feel is very personal. For me, he was a symbol for the game....a hero that you tried to emulate. (I loved the mission where you had to save him from the clutches of Tyrant. I always took pics of my characters proudly standing by his side at the end. Then, I'd wait for the mobs and watch him cream them with little effort. What fun to watch him fight!) If the devs had decided to kill off one of the other main characters, I would have been bummed, but not as sad as this choice. For me, it's like losing an old familiar friend of seven years. Players coming into the game in the future will read about him as history, never feeling the connection that some of us feel as long time vets. I am not weepy, but I do feel a sense of loss in a game I love.
