Go there and judge for yourself and then watch Iron Man 2. The critics have legitimate arguments while the fans say simple things like " it was so uber and awesome" . The rest smell like they are from the studio.

You keep the new age "sensitive man" philosophy. I will keep my set chief.
What you call political correctness? I call a very basic level of respect for people unlike yourself.

Clearly, you feel no need to treat people unlike you with a basic level of respect.

And then you whine when the people you treat without respect don't treat you with respect.

I'll leave the rest as an exercise for the reader.

This was hardly a isolated case. When serving in Iraq I had to suffer through the agony of listening to TRANSFORMER movies as soldiers would play TRANSFORMERS One and Two on their laptops. Torture by the enemy is expected, but torture by your own men? No wonder I was happy to pull guard duty. The TRANSFORMERS movies are complete messes of a film full of failed jokes, weird behavior that is intended to be funny but is not, useless characters, and no sensible plot. At their conculsion the movies make the watcher feel a sense of inadequacy as you cannot understand what the movie was trying to communicate. I only saw TRANSFORMERS 1 in the theaters and hearing the excessive moralising from a giant robot at the end of the movie was the last straw; I went to the ticket counter and demanded that I get my money back.
First off, did you even like Transformers before the film? If yes, what version as there's been many continuity's. If no, then may be it wasn't for you. It doesn't make any one stupid for liking it, just like I hate coffee. It doesn't make everyone who drinks it unrefined mules for liking it. It's different tastes. I know history, and been in the armed force(USAF), but sometimes I just want a movie that's fun.

I like transformers because I always have. my inner 6 year old comes out in full force when I saw the trialer for first time. There's just something awesome about giant transforming robots beating crap out of each other.

Bunch of people I know liked the movies though ranging from my 50 something mom, my 70 year old coworker I borrowed my DVDs to, and 20 something Ex girlfriend who went to see Revenge of the fallen without after I showed her the first movie. My sisters kids loved it, as my nephew turned to me, and said thank you Mike for bringing me before movie was even over as he was that into it back when he was 5 for first film. I don't have to explain to them why Optimus Prime one of the greater fictional characters ever, they know and understand for themselves.

Are weak spots and thing I'd changed if I had chance. Absolutely, but as a huge fan of the Ip, even if I hated the films I couldn't deny how much it's done for the franchise. I see it as a win no matter what happens after the 3rd film. Sorry you hated the films and were surrounded by off duty. That said, you re overreactting a bit about.

(P.S. I love a good rant as much as next guy, but you went entirely too long without making enough points for all of the surplus.)

You want examples of stupidity, emasculation and political corretness in flims?

THE THING 2011

Ok so why is there a BLACK MAN on a Norweign base in Antarctica? Guess there are so many blacks in Norway right. Wonder why he was put into the movie. Cater the the black audience ? Kinda insulting to my intelligence.

Why is there a woman on the base? Yeah I am sure an isolated weather or whatever station in the most isolated place on Earth is where a woman would be..not like its a mans job or anything..This movie takes place in the early 80s too. That girl must get passed around more than a joint.

FLY BOYS

Yeah of course the main character James Franco is ok with rooming with a black man, being he is from Texas and this takes place in 1917 where racial tolerance was at its peak

Black Fighter Pilot..yeah cause there we so many of those in World War One.

THE PATRIOT

Entertaining film.....but free blacks in 1775 South Carolina ? Yeah not like South Carolina was the most Southern of Southern states and first to secede from the Union or anything before the Civil War.

G.I. JANE

Yeah cause a woman can really survive Navy Seal training....insulting to all Navy Seals

ALIENS VS PREDATOR

Leadership figure is a woman..yeah let me tell you she is really convincing when she lays down the law and tells everyone "Dont be a hero" and not to help anyone in trouble. I really bought that

Gotta love these female warrior figures that are coming out...Centurion , King Arthur, Pirates of the Carribbean .. cause women are so convincing at it.

LAST SAMURAI

Of course Tom Cruise is a badass who hates his commander for slaughtering Native Americans. After all, Tom Cruises character was born in the middle of the Nineteenth Century when people loved Native Americans. Not like we had recently expanded West at their expense.

Not only is Tom Cruise racially sound and politically correct but he supports the old order of Samurai that is standing against the industrialization and modernization of Japan. Nah , lets not modernize Japan...lets keep it a undeveloped feudal country controlled by the Shogunate and ransack the rail roads.

No wonder these people were so stupid to charge into gatling gun fire on horses. No doubt Japanese laugh at this film.

PEARL HARBOR

Luckly in reality we did not have these young, girly punks defending Uncle Sam in WW2 or we would have been in trouble. We went from Midway (1976) to this (2001) ?

TEEN MOVIES

A lot of these movies came out when I was in high school or after. I could never watch these as the guys in the movie are total whimps. With these weak male characters being in these teen movies no wonder our youth is so enfeeble.

CANT HARDLY WAIT

Yeah go obsess and chase after the girl who is dating the Jock..write her a love note ..wuss

AMERICAN PIE

Parts of this were funny. But watching the jock being all sweet to the girl made me sick. After she angrily storms off about him being a Jerk , he tries to explain himself to her instead of him just not giving a crap and letting her walk away like a real man would.

Guy also has to beg and apologize to his girl friend cause he said out loud " I want to get laid" So he is apologizing for being a man ? Might as well get neutered putz.

SUPER BAD

I will admit I enjoyed this movie overall. The main character.. tall skinny kid, is such a wuss. He is not only insecure but he also fails to bang that girl when he had the chance because she was drunk or something. What a chump. Thats ok... Im sure that win you points in heaven. He should have took some tips from McLovin

I dont know when the emasculation started..maybe with the show FRIENDS or something. Guys having platonic relationships with women lol .... weird

Transformers 1 came out in 2007. Thats when I first saw it. I was in Iraq the year after. Transfomers 2 came out towards the end of my deployment.

Wow thank you , thank you thank you

You and Vox just proved my point

You will not even look at the VALIDITY of what I posed. You will instead look for words in the text and say "GOTCHA !!! You said BLACK MAN " !!

No wonder movies are so foolish today.

Let me repeat that..... YOU DO NOT CARE ABOUT LOGIC... ONLY FEELINGS ...THAT IS WHY MOVIES SUCK TODAY.

I don't have to read between the lines, it's fairly obvious you have some serious issues.

Racism, Bigotry, Misogyny. Terrible human being trifecta. At this point, I don't care if this gets modded and I'm warned, I gotta get this off my chest: I'm really ashamed to hear someone like you was at one point, defending our nation.

lol yeah racism....not like I am using historical facts

Explain to me how me stating that there is no "LOGICAL" reason a black man would be on a Norweign base or how there is no "LOGICAL REASON free blacks would be in a movie based in 1775 South Carolina or that the Samurai stood against the Meiji Revolution in Japan is Racism ?

ATTENTION!

There is no such thing as a bad movie, a bad song, a bad book, a bad television show, a bad game or a bad any other form of entertainment. There are only things you you personally really like, think are so-so or hate. Just like food entertainment is subjective.

Some people think Anchorman is hilariously brilliant. I despise it so much that I would rather spend an entire hour listening to a tone deaf drunk sing along with Lady Gaga songs than watch it. But that doesn't mean that the movie is brilliant or horrible. It just means that some people like it and I don't.

And sorry Dark but you went a little overboard on your examples post. You were trolling at a level of 8 out of 10 before. You managed to get a rise out of a few people but nobody had yet started frothing at the mouth. Then you gave examples like "Yeah what is a woman doing in a remote base, yeah what is a black guy doing in Norway, that kid should have banged the girl when she was drunk." dead giveaway. Overall not bad but the secret is to not get overly impatient and take a huge leap forward when trolling, you have to gradually amp it up. The rest of the examples you used would have been a good increase and probably had people looking up specific examples to site but those three just pushed it over the edge.

Still, not bad.

Don't count your weasels before they pop dink!

I completely support your use of historical facts where you've applied them to non-fictional historical accounts. Fictional stories, however, are called fiction for a reason.

I agree that many stories told in the modern era lack the fullness and subtlety we might expect to find. Probably this comes from modern writers learning from film and video instead of learning from literature and live drama, where words and ideas are more important. With film and video the image is typically considered of highest significance, so we tend to have stories with dialog and plot angled mainly at bringing the sex scene to the screen, or the car chase and explosion. In a way, the modern movie is often constructed a lot like a video game, with sexy or violent images as rewards.

Maybe Roger Corman is to blame.

I've read that Hollywood is aware of the superficiality of their scripts, but their complaint is that what we see is actually the best of what they're getting from screenwriters.

I'm not a film critic, but since this is a comic book based forum, what did you think of "V for Vendetta" ...?

For my sake, it seemed to be an instance of someone using a story setpiece that they shouldn't be setting into a binary, us-vs-them right-vs-wrong position, and doing just that. I suppose it's overly melodramatic of me to say, but I dunno, I felt more like whitewash than an admission. Not to say that many other films haven't done the same thing just as wrong, of course.

Strangely, if it'd been a comedy I'd probably have liked it more.

Also, the OP seems the kind of person who enjoys Atlas Shrugged, at a wild guess.

(While we're on the topic, I found Transformers to be racist; every person in the film was a thinly-painted veneer of who-gives-a-**** but you could be a crazy white person, a smart white person, a gormless white person, a military hadass white person, or you could be a black person or a latino person. Having a skin colour occupied your personality slot.)

(Also, my god this thread is stupid.)

Lets be fair here. Now a days it's popular to rewrite history, so studing history becomes harder!

Set aside the behaviour of the author, set aside the philosophy of the tale, set aside the political tumour it has created, look only at the text and read the character and the story. It is - as wonderfully summarised by another, smarter mind than mine - a work of super-irrigation; it encourages that which requires no encouragement, and its characters, those about whom we are meant to care, those in whose lives we are meant to be invested, are defined by smug superiority, selfishness, and being assuaged on all sides by a mediocre world of the humdrum that fail to fall upon their faces in exultant joy and being in the presence of the protaganist.

In many ways, Ayn Rand was to bad ideas as the Navajo were to Buffalo; she so perfectly and thoroughly executed and got the maximum use out of every single stupid and bad idea she could.

But we are at this point in the territory of a linguistic cul-de-sac; I was merely making what I felt an educated guess on the opinions of our lily-white savior who has deigned to grace us with the pure and wondrous thoughts from his higher immortal mind. I'm open to being wrong, after all.

Well, 'tis better to be a fan of Ayn Rand than William Luther Pierce, to damn with faint praise....
