It would give people an option to basically be a BP mastermind without having to adjust powers or anything. Also it would give people who don't want to look like a medieval sorceror an option to look more like a mad scientist who unleashed a zombie plague with the Apocalypse zombies.
All good stuff.

But...

You forgot Vahzilok for the zombies. This meets the need for tech zombies.

And only unlock the Apocalypse zombies when you get the badge for them.

Check out the Repeat Offenders network of SGs! You'll be glad you did.

I'm all in favor of allowing selection of female minions, where it makes sense.

I've been one of the players who would love to see minion customization, and gender selection should be a part of that.

I agree, female henchwomen, since the incarnate system you have the option of having the carnival essences, I have them, and that would also be an option for the henchwomen, Sybils?..... there are quite a few women charcaters, why not for henchwomen?

Sorry for the long hiatus...I now hold two computers dying from fire deaths under my belt... (wonder if there's a pattern there)

Glad to see all the awesome ideas in this thread! And yes, Dominatrix and her subs really is pushing the envelope on a T for Teen game....so why can't we have the same type of option?

That would be why.

I want female thugs, demons and mercs...I'd even be willing to shell out money for the option.

Also...female barbarians/scifi troops if y'all ever make those sets (plz?).

As to people making icky names and emotes for the pets, just report them, support generics them, then you move on.

/agreed

Though when I first read the last bit, I read "Support genetics".

All this time and it still seems that the name issue is the biggest argument against having them. Close second is the "emotes" issue which is already going on....and has been since they came out.

I remember posting something of this when Masterminds first been released, Castle laugh and say at meet and greet that it would not happen. It has been long time and the closest to female pet we having now is Lioness in Beast Mastery! It is good start for female only pet as it do not call forth male lion, it is female only which is rather neat but now there is time for female pet to be mixed in with other types like ninja, mercenary, and soldier. Zombie and Robots maybe but I not sure how this would working unless you make them pink! This would be very cute!

I always had idea of a NPC Mastermind. Maybe instead of calling forth pet you can perma-confuse enemy with mastermind power and pull from map or street you playing on and getting pets this way. It would take lot of work and be a very hard class to playing. Or maybe have option of choosing type of NPC character for your mastermind like pre-setting 3 pets as Carnival, 2 Pets as Seer, 1 pet Fortunata! Mixing it up! This could be done at beginning of master mind creation phase and unable to be changed as it locks in. It is not much of idea but it maybe something if the idea of creating new model for MM is out of question.

I would like to see female pet some time! Other than lioness, silly devs!

The core argument seems to boil down to a few key factors.

A) finance:

The cost for revamping existing sets can be high. To counter this, we already have a detailed character and npc creator. While I personally think if pet customization was to go through, we should have access to customize our pets in almost any way we want, this creates issues with the second point as well as issues of a technical nature (power activation points ala bots, etc).

The solution is simple and has been commented on many times here, using dev created models as an alternative power customization option. This allows the models to be "safe" while offering people more flexibility. I would also at this time suggest a model update for older existing powers. Compare the quality graphically of merc to demons. A massive difference.

B) abuse:

The second issue appears to be related around the potential for abuse. I've heard a lot of comments regarding gender and sexism in this thread. But the fact is the capacity for ause already exists within the game, and not just limited to MMs.

Off the top of my head, I could think of a few concepts I could make and have a reasonable expectation of getting away with.

How about a 5th column (see nazi), succubus who enslaves men to do her bidding. Merck/thermal. Not so out of line with existing characters I've seen, but what makes that significantly different from "Pimp Bob and the Fighting girls of 32nd street"?

Other than the Gender difference, not much. And personally I find it quite offensive if the prevailing opinion is that while the first is acceptable, the second is not. That's quite literally discrimination and sexism at work.

At the end of the day, abuse can and does exist. Concepts that bend the rules exist. If anyone here seriously thinks people pay strict attention to the rating of the game, go make a female character and play with the chest sliders. If that doesn't convince you, go sit at Pocket D on virtue for a bit.

Make it where you have to buy female pets in the store and have another screen appear giving examples of abuse that will not be tolerated. Then have the player purchasing sign the agreement by tying in there account name.

Then if the player does happen to abuse the female toons concept and gets caught, the GMs can lock his or her purchase. Which would require the player to repurchase the female toons again to play them and again resign the rules page again. I think this is a win/win for the company. Either way they get a free purchase and maybe a 2nd purchase for the same thing.

The signing part is basically if the player gripes about the lock They have something to fall back on to show the player. Its basically a C.Y.A..

I thought it was sexism from the devs to purposefully ignore female minions. They just assume everybody would do juvinile things to the minions. I dunno, I don't have much respect for the devs these days and I'm sure that affects my opinion some how but I do find this to be a childish issue. This should have been done years ago. They don't have to make them 'sexified' and they need to get these sick thoughts out of their head concerning women and what women expect from them because many posters on this forum have already shown that women find this lack of equality in minion choices as sexist as the devs thought it would have been.

Also, plainguy, why can people do these emotes to male characters but not females? It's like this sexism is ingrained in our heads. I say if someone is found doing 'foul' things to any one of their minions, male or female, they should be locked from making masterminds or whatever is using said minion.

Whining about everything since 2006.

I'm not sure when or if this will ever happen but its something the MM community has been asking for .. for years. The response long ago was very simple.. They did not want to deal with the players using Petsay_all that would have female pets acting like slaves to a male MM. OK .. I have a female MM, Wicked Wendy, who at one point had a macro set that made all my male misions drop to theri knees and worship her saying "We love you Wicked Wendy. We would die for you" Sooooo it was perfectly okay for my female to have male slaves but NOT the other way around.

Now I have seen some of the disgusting things some players have come out with as far as names, ect so I can see the point but the fact is COH is slowly, VERY SLOWLY, becoming more female villain friendly. Let's face it until recently we only had a few enemy groups that even employed females .... Crey (and only the suited special agent types and some of the Paragon Protectors). Carnies of course and the Knives of Artemus. It seemed like there was a glass ceiling, of sorts, that only allowed females to be non powered girl friends or potential victims. In recent issues we have seen the Hellions get a female version of the Damned (the girlfriend from hell), Cot, Banished Pantheon and Tsoo now all have female members as well. Nemesis has always had a few females but only the one type that are supposed to look like normal human civilains. I may be missing some but I was glad to see the new additions.

Of course there will also be a good bit of coding involved in making it possible for MMs to pick male or female minons but I hope someday I can create an all girl mob
