City of Heroes was my first proper MMORPG. Sure, I'd dabbled with a few web RPG games in the past, but none of them had the true MMORPG quality. CoX is also the game that has kept me the longest, taken the most time and energy from me, and given me back so much in return.
I have memories of hanging out with great people, doing some insane stuff with my characters. I still remember taking my Fire/Storm Corr for some SG TF runs and having multiple people give me the "Wow, you're one of those insane building people?" reaction.
But all things must end. Don't get me wrong, I love this game, and if it were sold and picked up by another producer/studio/whatever, I would go, play it to death, rez it and play it some more. But, even if ncsoft cancels everything they've done in regards to CoX, rehires all the Dev staff (Who are just awesome I must say) - I've still lost any trust with them. The feeling for me at the moment is this: Why invest more time/energy/money into a game that could be turned off at the drop of a hat, for no valid reason?
But I verge on ranting. I'm posting this here, because as a non-VIP it's about the only place I have. Goodbye CoX, hopefully someone will purchase your canon/IP and remake a CoX2 - but until then, I guess all that's left for me to do is take a newbie character through the Hollows, one last time. -

The core argument seems to boil down to a few key factors.
A) finance:
The cost for revamping existing sets can be high. To counter this, we already have a detailed character and npc creator. While I personally think if pet customization was to go through, we should have access to customize our pets in almost any way we want, this creates issues with the second point as well as issues of a technical nature (power activation points ala bots, etc).
The solution is simple and has been commented on many times here, using dev created models as an alternative power customization option. This allows the models to be "safe" while offering people more flexibility. I would also at this time suggest a model update for older existing powers. Compare the quality graphically of merc to demons. A massive difference.
B) abuse:
The second issue appears to be related around the potential for abuse. I've heard a lot of comments regarding gender and sexism in this thread. But the fact is the capacity for ause already exists within the game, and not just limited to MMs.
Off the top of my head, I could think of a few concepts I could make and have a reasonable expectation of getting away with.
How about a 5th column (see nazi), succubus who enslaves men to do her bidding. Merck/thermal. Not so out of line with existing characters I've seen, but what makes that significantly different from "Pimp Bob and the Fighting girls of 32nd street"?
Other than the Gender difference, not much. And personally I find it quite offensive if the prevailing opinion is that while the first is acceptable, the second is not. That's quite literally discrimination and sexism at work.
At the end of the day, abuse can and does exist. Concepts that bend the rules exist. If anyone here seriously thinks people pay strict attention to the rating of the game, go make a female character and play with the chest sliders. If that doesn't convince you, go sit at Pocket D on virtue for a bit. -
Quote:Wow, that looks perfect for my needs. Thank you very much.Read the 2nd page of the thread Brutes and DDR on this page, my build is in there along with another one.
Mine does all that, and if you run Ageless radial it's an unending amount of Endurance....without it, it's good recovery...
You have a different way of building than I normally do but it comes out cleaner.
This looks amazing on paper. Practically, what's the craziest thing you've done with it? -
Alright, I've done some theorycrafting in my head, and it occurs to me that with proper investment and suitable skill a combo of TW/DA on a Brute could take on pretty much anything and enjoy it.
That said, I'm having trouble building anything viable.
I'm quite happy to sink large funds into this, so if you want to have a spin at coming up with something, no budget limit, add anything you want.
Build goals:
1) Softcapped Def to either S/L/E/N or Positional, or if either of these would gimp the build, be 1 small purple away from softcap to either group.
2) Decent resists. Layered mitigation is a key part to DA in my opinion and I don't want them to suffer for +def. Otherwise I would have rolled SR.
3) Decent to excellent recharge. I don't expect to be an unkillable super tank and be able to pull off the best TW attack chain, but I'd like to be able to do something fairly decent. If possible, I'd like enough DPS to solo an AV without resorting to Insps, Lore, etc.
4) Endurance. I'd much rather carry red insps than blues. This is all for level 50, so include Alpha in your calculations. Perma endurance sustainable would be excellent.
Other than those, I can't think of much else. I'd greatly appreciate any help anyone has to offer. -
Messing around with a crab spider build to go blueside, so I don't want any PPP.
Ignoring any issues of cost, thoughts on this build?
Am I missing anything key? Is anything horribly placed? Could I do more with less?
Basically the average goal was to hoverblast at ranged with capped defences, decent resists and good recharge. On paper I think this build meets all that, but I want some thoughts before I actually invest.

Quote:That does look decent with Mu, but at the moment I have little interest in swapping to red and back, currently working on H-Merits with this character. Still I notice the difference in adding more EndRdx in Steamy Mist, thanks.Ok well your end is a bit high it might be a bit of a problem. Have you considered coming redside for a a day and getting the PPPs? Or is this a concept toon that you want to have power on? Mu has some great end powers to help with the hog that is storm. Also that end redux in combat jumping doesnt help much so instead take that out and put another in steamy mist for more overall end redux and then take mu and you get this. (with an extra power if you want it)

Yep, VIP. My char is currently sitting on 43, not bad for a week of play without farms.
The pvpIO may be a bit pricey, but it can be done I suppose.
Can I get some comments about endurance management? Recharge is looking alright for me, but I'm having a hard time reading mids to work out if I'll burn out of end or not. -
Building a Fire/Storm blueside, I've read some of the guides, loving the playstyle and melting people down, but I have next to no idea what to build for. So I attempted to softcap range and work on recharge, but it didn't work so well. Anyone able to take a gander?
My budget can cover LOTG+7.5% Rech, but purples will be a stretch.

Quote:The cheapest way is to buy a lot of paragon points. (You get tokens for the amount of points you buy, and the more points you buy, the less the individual point costs.)
The developers intended the paragon points for multi-month subscriptions to be awarded at the time of purchase; unfortunately, that didn't work for some technical reasons. So, if you subscribe for half a year, you do get six paragon tokens over those six months, but only one per month.
If you unlock Celestial Armor before i23 launches, the costume pieces will remain unlocked for your characters even after the Celestial Armor reward has been replaced by the Mecha Armor reward.
10joy
Awesome. So paragon point purchases apply straight away?
And is there a form or page I can view to see "Buy X points, get Y tokens"? Edit: Nevermind, found it on the wiki. -
Howdy there, long time player, looking at coming back to CoH after a while.
Apparently I have 20 of these reward tokens, but I want to bump myself up to Tier 9.
So, I have a few questions:
A) Cheapest way to do this? I'd prefer to add VIP time though.
B) If I say, bought a year, do I get access to the entire bundle of tokens, or are they dished out at an interval like the old vet badges?
C) If I buy something like the celestial set, and it vanishes with the next issue for mech armor, do I still retain celestial?
Thanks in advance! -

Quote:I do get into the heavy Arachnos RP with the rights groups of people (When I can find them), but most villains don't want a noticeable Arbiter breathing down their necks and I don't want to get involved in their internal RPs.Hmm... I personally enjoy roleplaying as a part of Arachnos. I just like military themed VG's, and why nothing better than an already pre-set archetype?
Give and take. -
Quote:This.I really like this.
As for myself, I don't really RP my Huntsman as an arachnos person. Dechs Kaison, my main, became an honorary Arbiter or some such when he completed the Barracuda Strike Force (I think that's the one). I then created an alt named "Marshal Kaison," which was Dechs with a rifle and a bunch of Leadership skills. I very rarely call attention to the Arachnos part of that at all.
I don't tend to draw attention to my Arachnos RP unless another person brings it up. Most of the time though, it's just roleplaying as a person, an individual, not the job they're in. Closest I get is comedy (STF - "Arbiter Sands! You owe me money!") -
Quote:Open discussion I wager?
For all those lacking the skills of photoshop, I'd like to start a thread detailing Arachnos and how you roleplay with them.
I tend to roleplay my Arbiter like a Priest of the Arachnos religion, one with the belief "If you serve Arachnos, you serve Arachnos. If you fight Arachnos, you make it stronger through conflict, thus you serve Arachnos. All serve in one fashion or another"
But that could just be my interpretation of it.
As for photoshop, I'm afraid I can't be any help. -
-
-
That's damn cool.
The power of Love* triumphs over all.
*Love only works when used in service of Arachnos. Love and all related feelings are trademarks of Arachnos and use by pesky heroes will result in pain in the form of complex wedding rehearsals.
Sidenote: Congrats. -
Sounds like news to me, glad I picked it up in the respec.
Anyone got numbers on maxing DDR via set bonuses? Now possible with a SoA? -
The Arachnos Arbiter Corps is essentially a SoA only RPVG in construction - always happy to welcome new Arbiters to the group.
Eventually looking forward to crazy things like all SoA mothership raids (A distant dream, but still... *drool*) -
Quote:More flexibility in power choices for one, although inherent stamina fixes a lot of those issues. Aim is a big plus for the crab spider, but build up on the bane path is also pretty awesome. I tried both Crab and Huntsman and found myself enjoying Huntsman more, yes partly for the legs. Movement, sound, costume design - it all pained me with the legs.Just because of the legs? Because aside from that aesthetical nitpick, I don't see where the huntsman superiority is... Crabs can be tougher, get a really cool extra pet option that's very easy to perma, dish out some energy damage instead of just lethal (granted, activation time for supression is worse, but still)... I've seen builds that do amazing things with huntsmen, but it's difficult to just automatically think of them as better than crabs with no explanation...
However, Huntsmen get a number of cool tricks. Stealth, which is damn awesome, Surveillance, which on a ranged, aoe, softcapped stealth toon is just.. bah, beyond belief.
Surveillance, combined with Achilles procs, combined with venom grenade = Melt.
Crab spiders are generally awesome, I won't deny that, but for a better.. *feel* to the toon, I'll always pick a huntsman. -
Arachnos Arbiter Corps is currently in the process of building a medium sized base, only myself at the moment with eventual plans for an Arbiter based - Primarily huntsman specced SoAs - RPVG.

Db/regen is an odd combo to begin with, the requirement to activate regen powers breaks combos and DPS in DB.
Still, if you can pull it off it'd be a.... unique toon. -

Quote:Not fussed as long as you keep it to a reason. Also, Travel Powers:
1. Is there a particular Travel Power that I should be aiming for? Some people like a themed SG to be uniform. There aren't any Travel Powers I loathe, and they all have a prerequisite I can use, so my choice of Travel Power is always a thematic one.
2. I found a travel power completely unnecessary on my first trip through Praetoria, and if I don't need one, I won't get one. We could, as a group, do the Atlas Park and Kings Row Safeguard missions and get the Raptor and Zero-G Packs. Those each last for 2 hours of usage (e.g. when they're turned off, they don't run down the timer). I did that with my villain, who's now 29th level and has used only about half of each. He also has a Rocket Pack Invention Recipe that he can build for himself when the Raptor Pack finally dies. He may never need to get an actual Travel Power.
3. The Steel Canyon Safeguard mission gets you the Summon Teammates Group Recall temp power, which lasts 24 hours of in-game time, whether you use it or not; we could do that one individually, as needed by the SG, so that 1 or 2 of us always has it available.
4. For inter-zone travel, the SG Base teleporters, the Midnighter's Club, and the Ouroboros Gate will eventually be available to us too.
Examples:
Super jump because you have armor/enchancements in your body that give you greater leg strength.
Flight because you're a war mage or you have rocket boots.
Teleportation because you have a short range teleporter device, or eventually, access to the ships teleportation system to to short jumps.
And so on. As long as there is a rough reason there won't be much of a problem since travel powers are almost a necessity in CoX.
