My wife and mother-in-law will be saddened by this news They are both big fans of her works.

I had not realized she was 85. So while I am saddened, she seems to have lived a long and full life.

I had wondered why her son was writing Pern novels, and now, perhaps, I know.

Before MMOs, there was PernMUSH, of which she more or less approved, as I recall. Apparently it's still around.

'I don't like the look of it at all,' said the King: 'however, it may kiss my hand if it likes.'
'I'd rather not,' the Cat remarked.
'Don't be impertinent,' said the King, 'and don't look at me like that!' He got behind Alice as he spoke.
'A cat may look at a king,' said Alice.

It's sad that she's no longer with us, but it seems to me she lived a very long and fruitful life. Her Pern novels have been taken over by her son and he seems to treat the material with due reverence. Her stories will live on and that is her life's gift to us.

your = Belonging to you.
you're = Contraction meaning "You are."

Passing of a Grand Master of Science Fiction is always a loss for the genre and it's readers.

That leaves Ursala Le Guin as the last living female Grand Master.

RIP

Just adding a footnote: Anne McCaffrey was one of only three women to win that award since it began in 1975, the other being Andre Norton.

Wanted: Origin centric story arcs.
If you've only played an AT once (one set combo) and "hate" it - don't give up. Roll a different combo. It may just be those sets not clicking for you.

Its worth mentioning that Le Guin is also quite active in her community. recently there was a letter to the editor in the newspaper from her.

Been ages since I read any of her works, but she was a meaningful writer in my youth.

I think I'll pull something by her off the shelf and read it in her honor this holiday season.

Now I'm depressed.

Still, we have her books and her stories so she'll be with us for quite some time.

Loved the Dragon Riders of Pern. We all need to get on our Dragons and fight Thread!

God Speed Anne, you will be missed.

Wow, I didn't realise she was 85! I've read most of her books, she's an amazing author. I'm going to have to dig out some of the books again I think.

RIP Anne

Grew up to the Pern series, and still read it every so often. I even have the PC game floating around somewhere... will have to re-play it as a homage. Thoroughly enjoyable books at any age imo.

You'll be missed, but your stories will never die.

Damn it, why Anne? Why not that twit that wrote Twilight.

This has made me understand why I can't stand incarnate content. I'm trying to collect threads instead of destroy them. That's just plain wrong.

Anne may be gone but we'll always have the worlds and characters she brought to life.
