Help me build a jarhead that's not cliche
Make a jarhead that's a Stone Melee character. It's a reservoir suit full of sapient liquid nanotech; the "stone" hammers and fists are some of its mass extruded outside the suit and condensed into solid form. With a Stone/Energy Brute you'd even have a nicely high tech force field to go along with it.

The Audition, Arc ID 221240 (6 mish, complex mech, comedy)
Storming Citadel, Arc ID 379488 (lowbie, 1mish, 10-min timed)
Oh, boy... Yeah, the female Think Tank leans back a LOT, to the point where it makes me dizzy to watch because I keep wanting to tilt my head. So I guess I won't be making female jarheads...
Yeah, I can't even finish making the costume. It throws off my equilibrium.
Oh, well, I suppose Lighteater could be a guy

The idea would be that the helmet is sentient and clamps down on its victims taking over their body. Of course, it prefers super powered victims. I think this might work best with the Crab Spider backpack and maybe an actual brain w/eyes, to give the idea that the helmet can scuttle along on its own hunting for victims.
Also, I tried using the A.C.C.A.H.U.D. Combat Aura, hoping that it would appear *inside* the Think Tank and maybe create some kind of Spectral Smile character or something.
It didn't quite work out and I couldn't get it to look the way I wanted to at all. However, I'm not convinced that it can't be used for something else. I just don't know what.
That's all I got.
That idea of the city of small organisms reminds me of that Eddie Murphy movie where his body was just a spaceship for a tiny race/crew within.
Anyway, you could be the ghost of an astronaut killed by a radiation burst in space (no brain, grav/rad). Edit: or since you limited your ATs, an /elec or /fire brute with the auras turned to pale green or pale blue.
You could be an alien race of hunters who keep the brain of the most powerful creature they have ever killed in a jar they mount on their suit; both as a display of their power and as a challenge to others. Edit: dual energy sword brute or scrapper. Or katana or claws.
You could make an alien symbiotic pair. The "brain with eyes" is really a super intelligent aquatic race that just happen to resemble human brains. But really they are nearly-sessile aquatic creatures that dont have the limbs to make tools. However, they have telepathy or maybe complex chemical "odors" they release in water to communicate and so they met another race on their planet that were a bit low IQ but still sapient. The second race has limbs for using tools, and hardy resilient bodies. So these two races form a partnership. Brain in jar with maybe the largest huge body you can make, with the fishman gloves and boots and all the weird shoulder spikes and weird body parts or strange tech you can give them. Cause aliens are weird.
Hey, or you could be the body of a supersoldier who lost to his evil nemesis back in WW2, but the repercussions included loss of the despot/tyrants body. So he cut off the head of Captain CloseButNoCigar and uses it by attaching the superior brain to the superior body in a horrific gestalt of evil! Super soldier with Super brain. Brain in jar. SS/Shield Brute or STJ/Shield scrapper.
Anyway, just some ideas.

Sadly, I'm restricted (read: have restricted myself for reasons of taste) to just Brutes, Scrappers, Stalkers and Masterminds.
I like this. I like it a lot. I'll have to think about it some more to come up with something solid, but it's an interesting idea. --- Seriously, I wish we could put more stuff in the jar than just brains. |
I intiially thought of this as a melee only but it works for others but if you've got a "non-corporeal" body (hence the jar and exoskeleton) you could also have a costume variant of "ghost form" with spooky aura and no suit? That might be extra good for Stalker... almsot invisible out of the suit hence good at assassination
Thelonious Monk
This is becoming very problematic. Neither Dark Armour nor any of the existing auras look good in black, so it's next to impossible to make a head aura that looks like a black hole...

Oh. Guess my above reply was semi pointless. I didnt realize you had finalized a concept.
Enjoy!

The one I came up with was the following-
Magic Fire/Fire Brute: A quasi-sentient elemental force of fire given human form. Using the Empty Jar, the Omega aura for hair, and High Collar Vampire cloak I was able to make it appear as if the flame was just hovering where the head is supposed to be. (I had to tinker with grays to make the Jar transparent as I could, and the collar helps hide it, so does FA's shields.
You could play on the Jarhead/marine concept- a die-hard gunny who just can't leave the corps- even to the point of transplanting his brain to a jar to make sure those wimpy recruits become real marines!!!

That's what I have so far for the "black hole in the jar" idea. It's... Not really what I had in mind originally, but it works.

OK, this is a problem - my Think Tank bowl is almost transparent. How can I make it more solid so it doesn't look like my character is headless?
I mean, look at this!

My other one so far is the apparently very common robot look, called "UnZone Soldier", who I'm thinking is a soldier from another dimension who wasn't able to completely cross over int ours and needs the suit to be as corporeal as possible (or something, I haven't worked out all the details yet :P).
The only other idea I have for one is something like a bug hulking monster of a mutant, claws brute maybe with bio-luminescence costume elements... after that, I think we've about exhausted all possible looks. Still, it's an amazing costume piece to have!
I got the name "Doctor Cerebral" on Exalted and I really can't come up with anything to do with it.
"Samual_Tow - Be disappointed all you want, people. You just don't appreciate the miracles that are taking place here."
So far, I've come to the conclusion that auras inside the helmet aren't going to work, or at least won't work to stay IN the helment. The problems are three-fold:
1. "Backlight" auras like Starburst Glow and Glowing Aura are set to display "behind" the head, and as such display behind the bubble helmet, not inside of it.
2. "In-head" auras like Bio Plasma and Fiery use slow-decay sprites and trail behind the character, so when you move, your aura streaks out of the bubble helmet.
3. Glow - the only in-head aura that doesn't trail behind - just ends up making the helmet look transparent.
I've tried using aura-less helmets, but they're so transparent that they disappear in low-light environments where there isn't much to reflect. If I had a brain inside this wouldn't be much of an issue since it's easier to see a bowl around a brain in your mind's eye, but when the bowl is empty, that's significantly more difficult. I'm thinking I'll need to swap heads entirely for this character and end up simply not using the Think Tank on the design entirely. Now that's a shame.

I'm still interested in the "living ectoplasm" idea from Hellboy, but I'd need a better way to work an empty bowl without making it transparent.
