Discussion: Get the latest on the 2011 Freedom Player Summit!

Okay. Flight is booked. Leaving Austin and flying into San Jose arriving Friday morning at 11:35 AM. I'll be picking up my rental (full size car, no Hummer or minivan this time) as soon as I get there, and then my first plans are for lunch or checking in at the hotel, depending on what they tell me about check in times when I call later to book my room after talking to Dramen.

If you are arriving anywhere near this time at SJC and want a ride, pop me a PM.

Similarly, my departure is Sunday afternoon and I have to have the rental car back by 1 PM. If you need a ride to the airport near that time, let me know.

I'll go ahead and book my convention ticket before talking to Dramen and I hope that Liquid's questions are answered before I do so that I'll know what to do.

Also, watch for posts by Red Gren about the Friday Night plans as well as possible plans for Saturday breakfast and lunch. The previous Justice Server (and friends) dinners have been a blast and we welcome players from all servers.

Okay. Decided not to wait to get ahold of Dramen and went ahead and called the hotel. Have my room booked for November 18 and November 19 both. I got the Deluxe Room with 2 Queen Beds for $109/night. No idea what the Garden Room rate would be, but possibly $99/night judging by the price difference in the normal rates and the group rate. I'll assume the Deluxe Room with 1 King Bed is the same rate as the Deluxe Room with 2 Queen Beds since the regular rate is the same.

When you call to ask for the group rate, the name is under Paragon Studios. I tried Freedom Player Summit, City of Heroes, City of Heroes Freedom Player Summit and she wasn't finding it. She then said "I have a Paragon Studios that weekend" and I said "That's it!"

So now the rest of you know what group code to ask for.

All I need to do now is get my email sent with the names and image and I'll be set.

EDIT: D'oh. Forgot to mention that they won't allow you to check in before 3 PM.

Someone please grill the devs about pvp and bases if they do a Q & A. Also add pvp accolades for accts for the Paragon Market.

Okay, it's looking more and more like I can financially swing this - however, no vehicle when I get there so I will be forced to rely on others' good graces for a lift to/from food stuff.

Was gonna see if someone wanted to split a hotel room with me, but given that I snore, unless you use earplugs I'd feel awful about inflicting that on someone.

Please please please can we get some decent video of these panels for those of us that can't drop a grand on a day trip to the States?

It's lovely that there is often a fan video but it's often hard to hear what's going on when the video is taken from an iPhone waving about at the back of the room. Now that Herr Zwillinger is so handy on UStream can we get an official video feed from the con?

I think something was said during the UStream yesterday that Zwankenstein will be busy with other things during the con so they won't be doing any streams. This likely means no "official" recordings either.

I haven't heard if Vangelus is going to be there but if he is I'm sure he'll have his camcorder going and uploading the panels he's at.

Has anyone had trouble sending an email to the address listed on BrownPaperTickets for the Attendee Badge?

I'm getting a Failure Notice email stating:

Okay first off... wow, haven't been on these forums in a long time. Got back into Paragon about a month ago now.

Airplane booked SLC / SJC.
Landing around Fri 4:08pm in SanJose. And then taking off Sun 4:33pm headed back to SaltLake. Have a feeling I'm just going to take a taxi from the airport to the hotel. Though, perhaps, I can hitch a ride with Texas Justice when he heads back to the airport?
Also I just set my reservation for the hotel and the special rate for a Garden Room is $99 (as Texas Justice was suggesting it probably was).

I'm so stoked. Now to get the event ticket squared away and I should be all set. If any needs anything from me or has questions etc then feel free to message me in game or on here.

So if, hypothetically, I flew into San Jose at, I dunno, 11:30am, I don't suppose someone would happen to be heading to the hotel around that time that I could hitch a ride with? Or hypothetically, if I were to fly out on Sunday at 2:30pm, I could hitch a ride back to San Jose airport with? If not, hypothetically, I guess I could get a taxi.

Oh, hypothetically, since I'd be coming alone, I'm wondering if someone might want to double up in a room for a couple of nights? The double room is $109, if I recall correctly. I figure if we were to hypothetically split that, it would be a total of $109 (plus taxes and fees) for two nights instead of $198 (plus taxes and fees) for just the single? I figure that hell, even if someone snores, I could put up with it a couple of nights to save $91. I promise I'm not a closet psychotic killer and (to my knowledge) I have no particularly disgusting habits, and that part is not hypothetical. As long as you don't smoke (STOP!) and you're not an ***hole (get your own room), having a CoH roomie for a couple of nights might be fun. Making fun of the Georgia accent is optional.

Anyway, I'm pondering it. Airfare is kind of steep, even from a major hub like Atlanta.

Tony, you didn't say which day you are looking at flying in. If it's Friday, I'm arriving fairly close to that time and can give you a ride from the airport. Mind you, I'm stopping at Schaub's first for a Fred's Steak sandwich. You are welcome to join me. We can't check in until after 3 so there will be a bit of freedom to do some things before checking in.

As for departures, I'm flying out sometime around 3:45 Sunday and would be willing to offer you a lift to the airport.

I already have a roomie for the weekend so I can't take you up on that offer, but it's entirely possible that you may be able to find someone willing to share a room. All of the rooms at Dinah's Garden Hotel are smokefree, so you don't have to worry about anyone smoking in the room or the hotel. Those that smoke will have to go outside.

I don't know if you are following CoH on Facebook, but if you are you can comment in their wall post about the FPS to see if someone there might be willing to share a room.

artphobia, I'd be more than happy to offer you a ride to the airport on Sunday. It's a shame Tony didn't speak up sooner. You two might have been able to do like I'm doing and split the cost of the room.

I'm a little late to this party, but thanks to forces unspeakable, I find myself able to attend the Summit. I've read through, but if any of this has been addressed elsewhere, please direct me there!

I've only found two threads regarding the summit: This one, and one that was the initial posting, with a last update around 10/15 (where this one seemingly takes over). Is there a consolidated thread or website where players are coordinating room shares and/or shuttle rides from the airport?

My stats, for the record:

• Arrive in SJC from DC at 1:05pm local time Friday afternoon
• Check in at Dinah Hotel at 3pm
• Dinner arrangements are already set, but I'm happy to hang with anyone for a lunch, beer, etc. before that time
• Leave SJC for DC at 10:10am local time Sunday morning

A slight off topic question, but have you ever considered doing a MIDWEST convention? In 3 years i havent seen one yet and its not like Chicago doesn't have the largest convention center and airport in the world......seriously, you can do the east coast and the west coat, and oversea...yet miss the whole entire part of the center of america....

I haven't seen any threads for co-ordinating room sharing or shuttle rides. A few people have commented in this thread.

I know that TonyV was looking for a roomie as of his last posting, but I don't know if he's finalized anything. You might want to shoot him a PM asking about it.

As for shuttle rides, your times don't mesh well with mine or I'd be more than happy to give you a ride. I'll likely still be at lunch when your plane arrives in San Jose but I might be able to talk those riding with me into making a pass back to the airport to pick you up if you can hold out until around 1:30 or so.

I see that crayhal also is taking Friday off and is offering to play host/bus driver so you may want to PM them as well.

If nothing else, you may want to use the public transportation system there. I know it will likely take longer than a cab, but it's much less expensive. It may involve a bit of walking between stops or at the end, but it may also give some sightseeing opportunities as well. Since you have the time between arriving at the airport and the check in time at the hotel, this may be a decent alternative.
