Anyone Notice....?

Michael Bincolo, the new Signature Arc Contact in Talos, is sporting a wicked cool Sword in a scabbard on his back, unlike ones I've seen in this game before...

Sign of things to come?

Wishful thinking on my part?

Both?

Find out next week, same bat-time, same bat-channel. (assuming some one finds out by next week.)

Part of the running argument for why things like back scabbards have always been a hard thing for the Devs to give us was this idea that our character body models only have a limited number of "anchor points" and as the story goes the Devs only had like one or two of those points left over after you accounted for all the other existing types of costume items.

I can understand why the Devs may have wanted to conserve that resource over the years because once they used them all then they'd have no further room to expand. But let's be a bit realistic here by considering that the game is now well over 7.5 years old. How much longer are the Devs going to hold back from using those last anchor points? What are they being saved for?

I would argue that people have been wanting/suggesting more back items for this game for so long that there's really no benefit in reserving the last anchor points for anything else. So what if giving us something like back scabbards prevents us from getting anything else like it? I would rather get something new knowing there's no room for anything else than to know there's room for a "potential addition" and never get any benefit from that potential. An unused anchor point gives us nothing to play with. I think it's high time we get as much as the system will allow for.

Yup, those lost two points should be used for backs, and hips.

I noticed that too. Was a little bummed there wasn't some pointless NPC chatter involved. Kept trying to click and see from different angles.

The devs have said a couple of times that the problem with scabbards and the like isn't designing them and attaching them to the models, it's that as it stands they can't make them dynamic. So you can have your scabbard, but it's got to either always have a sword in it or always be empty (yes you could get around it with multiple costumes, but that isn't always an option) and so they don't want to half-implement them.

Spoilers plox? I'm drawing a complete blank. Is whatever this is in the blue or redside arc? Or both?

Edit: If you mean Mr. H, that's one hell of an obtuse clue, and some of the dialog in the mission does explain it, sort of.

Ugh, so what? Jounin have apparently carried around three katanas since CoV launched. I hate all the costume related excuses the devs give us that keep us from getting a gigantic amount of costume parts for reasons that make no sense.

Besides, we have combat auras and the vanguard shield. I really can't believe that they couldn't do a combat katana. If nothing else, a static katana on the back is good enough. Geez.

Wasn't this already solved with Maelstrom's holsters?

Not really since Maelstrom is one size and has specific measurements where player characters can be a variety of sizes and measurements that can mess with animations like drawing pistols from a holster.

Honestly though, I think any Scabbards would be nice, a static scabbard would be fine...

And I'm not sure what other people are noticing in this arc, but I'd like to know!

Specifically, I recall the most insurmountable issue being that the variable differences afforded to us through the use of body sliders would make it a coding nightmare to have our character realistically reach for an item on their back and pull it free from a scabbard. Characters whose body sliders were too far outside the intended animation would very obviously grab thin air, have their weapon 'teleport' from its' scabbard to their hand, and then resume fighting. The entire thing would look... Tacky.

I am unsure why we can have jetpacks, backpacks for back to school, wings and steam punk back packs, but can't get back items like scabards etc.

But then again...Im not a dev.

QFT.

For that matter they should be able to do it with any weapon that they already have a model for. I am sure standard code rant can apply here, it is just that we heard the words "Can't be done" but what they really mean is "It takes too much time, and is not worth it." At this point I would say that if we are willing to buy it, then it is worth it. I promise, they add dynamic scabbards as costume items, and I can name at least one person who would buy them ALL. Me. Even better, I am pretty sure I am not the only one.

The Paragon Store redefines what "Worth the time" really means. It is no longer a matter of will it make people happy, it has moved into will people buy it. They will, those long requested items will sell.

You could double this up for other things. You customization for Hasten in the store, and every player in the game will buy it. They may complain that it was not free, but I bet they still buy it. Most adults have realized that if you really want something, you have to pay for it. I want extra cheese on my burger at McDonalds, I know it cost extra. That is just life, and I can live with that for the things I really want.

I practically never use capes, and rarely use wings. If we had quivers and swords to throw on our backs, I'd buy them all too. Animated or not.

That's the only thing I can think of. The clue about a gent in purple doesn't help, since 90% of the NPCs in the arc wear purple.

Nalrok_AthZim, please feel free to send me a PM with whatever it is, 'cuz I missed it twice, and I doubt I'll get it without being told.
