Watching Tera Nova, new ep, seriously a lot less screen time should be used for the teen drama subplot, or have it relevant to the main.

also... uh.. WHY DID YOU LEAVE THE BROTHA ON THE FLOOR INSTEAD OF THE DOC THAT'S MAKING THE MOVE ON YOUR WIFEY?!

I was concerned tonight...I thought TN was going to be getting the Firefly treatment. Namely, the fact that boring-*** baseball was still on at ~8pm Central. Thankfully, Fox actually pushed everything back an hour to allow TN to show. I imagined they'd go straight to House rather than show TN.

This but I don't even care if it's relevant. I'm watching this show for the dino-action stuff and time travel stuff. I'm NOT watching it for the Brothers and Sisters 90210 drama crap. I'll give this show 1-2 more episodes but I grow tired of teen drama already.

@#$@ baseball. A) forgot it was Monday (don't ask) and B) Didn't even think they'd show it because of @#$!@$!@ baseball, so didn't check/re-set up my recording for it.

What a piece of crap this one is. It won't get a second season.

Because of the baseball game my DVR only managed to record about 6 minutes of this Terra Nova episode. The bad part is that it doesn't appear they're going to rerun the episode anytime soon so I guess I'm SOL on this one.

I have nothing against baseball and I know it sometimes overruns other programs. But I take it as a pretty bad sign that Fox already doesn't mind preempting Terra Nova as early as its third episode. Makes me wonder if it's even going to last one full season. *shrugs*

P.S. For what it's worth even the 6 minutes I did see wasn't shaping up to be wonderful episode anyway. It's sad to think that this -could- have been a good show had it been handled properly.

Well, the completely un-boring baseball got me to forget that this was on at all, and I didn't record it.

Blame mother nature, the game ran over only because it was rained out on Sunday and was scheduled for 4 pm on Monday (so it wouldn't interfere with primetime) and they would have been on time, but they ended up in extra innings. That said, the episode was once again, mehtastic. Honestly the teen drama isn't nearly as annoying as the creepy boss ex-boyfriend plot.

Yeah, this show would do well to ditch the focus on the kids. I could see if you were aiming for a "family" type audience, but let's be frank, that's really NOT who's going to be interested in a show like this.

The kids are just horrible cliches anyway. We've got:

1- Angsty, petulant, semi-rebellious son who happens to be a musical talent. Check.
2- Super genius science nerd girl. Check.
3- Mega-cute youngest daughter. Check. Plus, since she's a third (nice Ender's Game ripoff by the way), and technically isnt supposed to exist, I'm just waiting for her to develop some kind of super powers, some unique tie to the Terra Nova world or creatures that no one else has. That would pretty much complete the trifecta.

This show has potential, and some pretty decent leads. They would be well-served by sticking to a more adult, action-related show, since they have some good roots laid down for quality conflict.

It's pretty sad when you could quickly improve a show by instantly removing roughly half of the main characters.
I had my bar set pretty low for this show and it's having a hard time even meeting that.

My TV watching time is usually pretty limited and I catch things when I can recorded on my DVR. My guess is that with the Walking Dead starting back up this week I'm going to be dropping Terra Nova from my season passes. *shrugs*

Has either of the daughters got the obligatory cute dinosaur pet yet?

If you are going to do a show about pilgrimages of people/families, I don't really have a problem with them focusing (a bit) on the teenagers. All I ask is it match the tone and feel of the show proper, which TN is not doing. I did like the idea that the teenagers there have to grow up early, so a lot of them end up living together. There was potential there, but they missed the mark. If they have to "grow up" then make them act grown up and deal with grown up stuff. They get it right sometimes, but other times they fall back on teen show cliches. It's a missed opportunity in my opinion.

And did they change the actress playing the youngest daughter?

Meh....really felt like another "filler" episode with a overused generic Sci-Fi plot (Oh noes..another disease we have to cure in mere hours) Kind of worrisome for only being three episodes in

The Teen drama is just pissing me off but at least is seems to be leading the main Terra Nova story along somewhat with a few mysteries being revealed and more questions raised.

I'm trying to like this show, I really am but if it doesn't get better in the next couple of episodes I'm dropping it.

What did you all expect? It's a simple family drama series with all the standard cliche family plots dealing with a family moving to a very different and dangerous environment than where they were. Instead of having them face dinosaurs 85 million years in the past you stick them in the present but moving to Africa, the Amazon, the Outback even Canada .

Sure they hinted at a secondary plot arc dealing with the Sixers, Taylor's missing son with his etched diagrams by the falls and "the real reason" for Terra Nova which I think is there simply to keep Losties interested in it.

Remember No Ordinary Family. They still had the same family plots with the kids dealing with school and dates while Mom and Dad try to balance family with work. Oh and they have superpowers.

I guess I was naively hoping for a bit more than another rehash of the Swiss Family Robinson / Lost in Space scenario.
I fully realize I only have myself to blame for expecting anything better...

Not so much expect, but wanted:
  • more dinosaurs
  • lasers
  • the pilgrims actually having a hard time adapting
  • and just say no to child actors. Yes, seriously.

At least the plot advanced in this episode...

There is something dark and mysterious going on... like omg we're in the past and I want to get laid. What's the deal with these dinosaurs?

It's like there are two shows going on...

Well, it seems that a large amount of the people recruited for the colony were not chosen for their intelligence. You're living an a place where nearly every creature WANTS TO KILL YOU. So, you... traipse off into the woods in small groups and go swimming.

Also, the mini-pterodactyl episode was numbered 1-03 on my cable video-on-demand. The memory-erasing virus episode teaser is numbered 1-05. Are they skipping episodes?

I'll play Devil's Advocate and say maybe by 2149 all the dangerous animals on Earth are dead so these people aren't used to worrying about avoiding big critters that can eat them.

Anyway sometimes networks will shuffle the order of which episodes they air. They do it for all sorts of reasons. I don't think it happens to every show but it's not exactly rare either. I wouldn't read too much into it.

I wouldn't worry about the numbering. My on-screen guide almost never gets episode numbers correct.

I guess that's why they have that whole orientation thingy.

"Hey everyone. We live with Dinosaurs. They will kill you. Pretty much everything out here can kill you. Oh, and don't mind the 15 foot fences that flying critters can easily bypass. Be safe out there!'

And we've seen how well those rebellious teenagers pay attention to all those pesky "rules".
This show is like a remedial course in Cliches 101.

Exactly.

Speaking of their defenses or lack therefo...this is 2149 and the best fencing they decided on was wooden posts (with metal holdings) and wooden stakes sticking out from the fence and up from the ground? Well, there's turrets but why not a more robust fencing?! C'mon man!

EDIT: And why don't there jeep/buggy things have doors on them?!?! HEEELLOOOOO? At least the sixers were smart enough to have Tank type vehicles.

Personally, I'm a bit disappointed in Taylor. If I was the first one there, I'd have been out stealing me a dinosaur egg, hiding out safe in my bunker until that thing hatched, then I'd raise that little sucker as my personal pet and ride. Once it was full-grown, we would be out kicking *** all over the place. Forget those silly rover vehicles. I'd be out riding a freaking Tyrannosaurus like a horse, with one of those big *** sonic-cannons mounted on the front of my saddle, with a dual laser cannon headpiece slipped over Dino's head, so everywhere he turns to look, we're blowing **** up. Then let's see about the Sixers and their little cars...
