Character Housing?

I am sure this has been asked and answered before, but I cannot seem to find the thread.

Is there a chance we will ever get character housing? I am running around First Ward right now, and I was thinking that would be great place of my characters.

Just a question.

Almost certainly not.

The load it puts on the servers is hugely disproportionate to the upside it provides, especially for - and I quote the devs here - "a vanity item".

Well that sorta sucks. I guess I could just make "SGs" for my characters and make it a house instead.

That's what I do. And if you ever want to invite another player in, just add them to your team and they can come in.

Unless the devs realize how much of a cash cow it could be if they sold character housing on the market on a per character basis.

Didn't posi say the last webcast that Player Housing was an idea they could get behind, but wasn't quite sure how to impliment it? I could swore it wasn't a for sure 'No' like some of the other things are (like city vault, rest its soul)

Astute observation. Certainly under the F2P and micro transaction model, player housing could be feasible if the technical hurdles could be overcome.

Q. Just wondering Posi, where are the new dance emotes we were told would come with GR?
A. Positron: Whoops, my bad.

1387 badges, and counting

During one of the last UStreams, when Posi and Zwillinger were answering questions, the housing question did come up but Posi stated that it would be difficult to implement, though it has been an option and talked about in the past.

The biggest hurdle I see here is that we need some new area plan editor, because the base editor is a head-desk-38-hit-combo nightmare.

Otherwise, I think it'd be a great option to grind into the Paragon Market machine.

And the sad thing is, some of the problems with bases being such a pain to make could be solved by adding some very simple items (like fully rendered large surfaces, so we don't have to stack dozens of desks to make a second floor).

He had, IIRC, written up something about it four times, so they have ideas on what to do with it. The biggest issue sounded like server load.

I hate to use the term "simple" but builders lives could be made simpler if the devs took the existing white floor tile that's next to the safe in the base editor and reskinned it so you can't see thru the bottom, and if they gave it the same graphics as the ceiling and floor styles they'd blend in perfectly with base construction. That way a 2x2 room would only take 4 floor tiles to cover the room instead of hundreds of desks.

As a compromise to a fully customizable house creation system I think the Devs could provide a number of "pre-fab" spaces that could be styled very nicely and come with a limited set of hardwired features (like a personal vault for salvage, recipes, etc). This way the devlopment could be made simpler and these self-contained "house units" could be sold individually in the Paragon Market. Eventually they could offer several dozen types of houses of various styles to satisfy most people. Every character could own multiple houses but only have one "active house" at a time the same way we have to choose which active Incarnate powers we have.

So if you want a fully customizable space you use the existing SG base system. If you just want a "personal house" to store your stuff then you can buy one via the Paragon market.

Ownin, multi houses is a soso idea. If they added a kiba landlord system with rent set my gms based on size/storage. So free
and or priem playrs could rent housing. Would be cool to.

This is an idea I like very much. I think it would work. The current base design is very tedious. Allowing us to just pick predesigned rooms would make it much much easier to work with bases. Also, this should give us longer hallways, and hallways which allow a few items to be placed in them.

Other idea: Separate storage from containers, so that if you don't loose items if you delete a storage container. Items should be stored in the base, not the container. The container is just how you access your storage.

Here's a fun idea: every time you walk into your house, you can see Echos of your toons from that server just chilling around the house lol

... No? Okay

Indeed, this is almost exactly what that other game over there did with their Hideout feature.

... and then they all jump you and send you to the hospital.

Capital idea, because then you don't even need any functionality in your house, as you're never there long enough to interact with anything!
