Fire/Time Build Help

Once again I'm here to ask for help with a build in what is technically the wrong forum

I'd appreciate any help in working on the build for my Fire/Time Corruptor. The goal is softcapped M/R/AoE as well as boatloads of recharge. With Powerboost, slotted Farsight gives about 22.3% defense (depending on slotting). So that means I only need about 22.7% defense to all positions to be softcapped.

I've got a very rough draft so far which ticks most of the boxes, but I'm a bit short on defense for M/R and way short on AoE. I don't mind AoE not being softcapped, that's not a big deal.

Where I'm having difficulty is scraping together enough defense as well as the recharge needed to have Chrono Shift perma.

im finding that chrono is recharging in 90s with 30s duration how can that be perma?

Wow, very nice. The loss of the Achilles proc in Slowed Response is a shame, but damn, those bonuses from Shield Breaker.

Something to consider is to remove a slot from Distortion Field and replace the Purple Set with a Basilik's Gaze. Replace an ENDMOD/RCH in Chrono Shift with a Generic RCH and put a Ribosome HO in Tough...

I'm finding I just don't use Distortion Field all that much. Though, I did use it during the Prisoner Escape part of the BAF Trial. So I guess it got uses there, but so far, I've found it pretty meh, and don't bother to use it all solo as I just don't need too.

How good is Soul Drain for Fire/Time on a team or league in practice?

I'm still debating it in my own build but here are the negatives that I came up with:

  1. 4.3 second cast time = sadface.
  2. Unable to perma
  3. 10 foot radius requires enemies to first clump together before you cast it, however with Time's Juncture (25 foot radius) Enemy movement is slowed making their clumping even slower.
  4. #3 gets worse if you've also dropped distortion field.

IIRC you are playing DP/TIme.

For a combination like Fire/Time with Rain of Fire + Reactive, you would want to leverage Distortion Field to keep enemies from running around bonkers.

It's also a nice AoE -rech debuff, which is mitigation that can be layered on top of DEF & RES.

While Time's Juncture doesn't have -RCH, it does have lots of -SPD to keep the enemy from running out of patches and stacks with Rain of Fire's -SPD, which I would guess one would just cast ontop of themself, since you want the enemies to be in TJ's -tohit area.

With softcapped defenses and the two heals, I'm just finding while yes, -RCH is more defense, I'm just not needing to use it and usually better off using one of the other many powers in Time Manip or attacking.

This is my experience though, and likely my playstyle, also a Fire/Time can play the "stay out of melee" more than a DP/Time is likely to do, so that can also be a difference.

I wish corrs could aggro (without picking up taunt) because I'd be all over fire/time, but then I probably wouldn't play a melee AT again. 45% def to absolutely everything is much better than 45% def to ranged/AOE or S/L or whatever IMHO, I love having complete protection to every kind of damage out there.

Maybe dark/time, especially since the buff to Life Drain. Maybe. For the time being, it's going to be fire/time controller, and ample whining and fist shaking at every trial AV seemingly immune to controls (and hence, to containment).

Now, I'm not a Scrapper person because I'm not fat, but here's a tweaked build. If you don't mind losing a slot from Hasten and some cushion defense, I managed a little extra recharge, recovery, HP and another -kb IO (It's either 1 or 3, no in between).

The slotting for DF isn't so much about enhancing the hold, which I agree is pretty pitiful, so much as the damage proc and extra purple set bonuses.

BrandX, Yeah as others have said, DF is really great in conjunction with TJ and RoF to ensure mobs stay inside it and die nicely. I've found its really good with the Lockdown proc too, which I see going off a lot more than the default hold.

DF and Slowed Responses are two of the main workhorses in Time IMO. Run in, TJ initially debuffs 'em, drop TF and SR, go to town.

Deus, Soul Drain is pretty nice. Unfortunately not as nice as the Dark Mastery version (for reasons which escape me) but its still a good buff. While it won't be perma, you can still have it up a good half of the time which is a significant buff to your offensive power.

Fiery, That's a really nice rework, I like it a lot. Now I also agree with the 1 or 3 KB IOs thinking, since 1 is enough for almost everything and the few things for which 1 isn't enough, 2 isn't either. That said, for this build I'd consider taking the Karma -KB out and moving it to DF to put the Lockdown proc back in.

I'd be at 2 -KB IOs which is a little silly, but at least the Steadfast is granting a bit of extra recovery.

Nihilii, Perhaps its for the best if you don't try a Fire/TM Corruptor because you'll definitely never play a Scrapper again. While I personally think that'd be great, you (and many others in this fine subforum) would probably disagree

I've gotta ask though, what's got you leaning towards Dark? If its the self heal, TM has a much better self heal in Temporal Mending.

I share your wish for a good aggro power for Corruptors, but fortunately Fire can melt stuff so fast it doesn't have time to run away, especially in conjunction with TM. AVs and GMs can still occasionally try to leg it, but that's why you have a single melee pityslot on any given team, right?

If you do that I'd replace the Steadfast -KB with the res/end if you toggle on Tough that is.

Hasten is perma with only 2 rech. The Kismet unique seems like a total waste when you have 51% +acc in bonuses and 22% +tohit from Farsight. You could move those slots to TJ and throw in 4 Dark Watcher's for some HP, recov, and rech. Or drop Grant Invis for Maneuvers and put them there and have much more wiggle room on defense.

Mostly TT, fast recharging immobilize with a decent activation time to act as ghetto aggro control. I mentioned the buff to LD because before that, getting a decent ranged attack chain on Dark Blast was a PITA.

Is it actually worth slotting Chrono Shift for healing considering its on a 90 second recharge? That and really temporal mending should be more than plenty of healing on softcapped defenses with resists on top.

So kind of off topic in an off-topic thread anyway. I had a long/spattered subscription to CoH. Played a lot of WoW (and some CoH) for the last few years.

The rogue community on WoW was by far the most min/max'ing class. We had the best tools, and most dedicated people to making the tools accurate and easy to use.

I get the feeling that the scrapper community is the same, especially if other classes are coming for build advice (and getting the results or better that they want). I'm glad of this, and I enjoy reading the information in these posts.

My personal experience with the set has been that Time's Juncture & Distortion Field are more than enough control for most situations.

I understand you are specifically looking to control aggro with it, however if I am first into the spawn (usual) my PBAoE toggle debuff, location TAoE slow/rech debuff and TAoE -res / -def debuff + rain of fire is more than enough to piss everything off to hell and back.

Only a melee with aggro controls (taunt, taunt aura, gauntlet, etc) will pull aggro off of me, which is fine. I don't need to be their aggro sponge.

From a performance perspective, I think going Dark Blast over Fire would be a shame.

A fair point. For me, it's a question of 'why not?'

Both the healing and endurance buffs only last 30s of the 90s duration, but given you can frankenslot the power and get good end/heal as well as recharge numbers, why the hell not?

I mean I guess if you felt slotting was really tight you could leave it with just recharges, but I think it'd be a bit wasteful given the minimal investment and nice improvement across the board with frankenslotting.

this is the build that im planning for my time/fire defender, the build could be essentially identical to a corr with powers moved around. idk if it would be exactly what your looking for, but having 320% rech with ageless destiny will be sweet lol
