Do whatever you want with it, basically. It's a computer game account, and a computer game account that apparently at least one party no longer cares about. It's not a particular significant choice, whatever you decide - it's not like you're deciding custody of the children or anything. It tells us pretty much nothing about the type of person you are, and it doesn't sound like it'll really impact anyone's life except perhaps your own. So just do whatever you feel most comfortable doing.

Characters live within the mind of their creators. All that exists inside of the sever is a bunch of bits, a bag of hit points, a costume description, and a table of powers and enhancements.

If the characters are such that you would like to keep access to those power sets without leveling them up again then rename them and give them new costumes so that anyone acquainted with her would not recognize them.

Otherwise, delete them.

And since nobody else has gone there yet:

Did you take any powers from your primary and secondary powersets besides those forced upon you? Did you use the ones the game forced you to take? Did you pick an AT with high hp and/or damage modifier? Did you team with others who were not Men? If you answered 'Yes' to any of these then I'm afraid you can't call yourself a Man, regardless of what you do with your ex's characters.

You could move all the undesired characters to a server that you don't frequent. Take advantage of those low, low prices on server transfers.

Hey marketing, what do I win?

Was the account *started* together? If not, it's up to whoever started the account, I'd say.

If you both had it from the start, I'd go with whoever actually paid for it, or paid for it the most.

You do know that sharing accounts is against the EULA, right?

*edit*
Also: "Man law?" The hell?

Ruling?
My advice, all of which assumes that you own the account, that it's in your name, paid for by a credit card with your name on it, from a bank account that the divorce decree (or other legal action) has clarified is yours and yours alone:

1) Do nothing immediately. Right after a breakup, your emotions are running high, your brainpower running low. Give the anger some time to ebb.

2) Sort the characters: if you have more than 12 slots on the server, move hers to the end of the list. If you have left-over server move tokens, move her characters to another server. She may come back. Probably not, but she may.

3) Once you actually need the character slots, and no sooner than a couple of weeks from now, delete her characters, lowest level to highest.

If my assumption is wrong, and it's a joint account whose ownership hasn't been settled? Delete nothing; don't even log into any characters but yours; strongly consider opening a new account on a card that is unambiguously yours in case some court rules that the credit card, and thus the account, is actually hers, not yours.

Don't let GG give you any guff about "inflexible male honor;" you're the one who has to sleep at night after making your choices. My advice, as a fellow man, is that the honorable thing to do with what was jointly-held property is to be a good steward of it until it is once and for all, unambiguously and permanently, no longer jointly held property. After that it's yours to do with as you please. Until then, it's just not.

More American TV, you mean. I don't get that on local TV here, as it looks like a commercial. That's not to say we don't get US commercials, but they're usually dubbed over, swapped for completely different products and re-written, but I haven't seen this one.

I've been married for 17ish years, we don't anticipate breaking up, and we STILL don't try to share game accounts.

Thanks for the help guys, I have made my decision as what to do. Thanks everyone for your opinion.

bah, you and your foreignnessness

The title of this is idiotic.

In the situation the OP describes, the gender of the account holder(s) has nothing to do with the right thing to do in the situation.

The right thing is, of course, communication. "Okay, I get the account, you get the coffee maker." Making sure that everything's clear about the breakup will help to make the transition easier.

If the account is now yours, do what you want with it. Just remember to change the password. If ownership of the account is still debated, don't delete your former SO's characters, because that's really a jerk move.

Sam, where are you from? I've been trying to make my own inference but A) your English is impeccable and B) I know you don't speak it natively so, being American, I'm stumped.

But I showed them, and nobody's laughing at me now!

Eastern Europe, former Soviet block until 1989 I don't generally make a secret of my nationality, but I try not to rub it in people's faces lest I start to sound pretentious. Well, MORE pretentious. I was fortunate enough to study English for the entire 12 years of my primary and middle education, but as I tell everyone who asks - studying English doesn't teach you English. Using English does. Believe it or not, it is these very forums that gave me both the practice and the examples of good language that eventually taught me how to speak and write properly

Learning proper English from game forums is like learning how to share from hungry dogs. I'm amazed that you're so coherent.

Learning proper English from the City of Heroes forums is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT than learning proper English from "most other game forums".
