Men of the CoH community, if you and your lady vested years of play time into the game and you break up leaving the characters they both make, do you delete all or does one just claim their characters and rename them?

Ruling?

It depends.

Keep your toons, delete hers, give her the dog/cat.

That (assuming they still desire access to the account or may desire access sometime in the future) doing either of those things should remove your ability to label yourself a 'man'. Given this, you're obviously going to do one or the other ...

*shrugs*

Whatever gets your rocks off, little one.

No desire at all.

Luckily the wife and I had separate accounts. Although she had her main first lvl 50 mastermind villain on my account which was the first. When we split she lost it, she still sits there in the list of chars unplayed. I didnt have any on hers so worked out for me lol. Same thing happened with LotRO I had my first char on her account( which I didnt play anymore after the first few weeks after launch since I got my own account) and I lost it. Best thing to do is get separate accounts even if u are together 12 yrs hehe, of course this is probably in hindsight for you. Sold our only shared account to SWG a few years ago for $400, glad I did that now.

She doesn't play anymore, but the account we shared sits unused.

Welll, it does depend. I mean, I guess I could go into a number of iterations where you would consider keeping them and not renaming them or renaming them or deleting them are viable options.

But "it depends" on a number of factors that we don't have, given your limited opening statement.

I tried to make it straight forward like, "is it acceptable to put your finger in someones bottle of beer".

If there is no chance your getting back together because she moved away and it appears she has no interest in those characters again in this life. Delete or keep?

Well, that cuts down the different options.

How do you feel about keeping the characters?

Because let's be honest, "Man law" really is about how you feel about what things are right and wrong. A gut reaction is a feeling.

Here's how I see it...

Keep characters that were mostly identified as "yours"; your concepts, primarily played by you, people assumed you were at the controls when they saw that character in the game, etc.

Delete characters that don't fit into that category.

I think it should be considered fair to remove any valuable enhancements from those characters before deleting them.

She keeps the account and all her toons, allowing you access to delete all yours off the account first as well as promising not to take your names, etc.

You immediately open a NEW account and begin planning the rules, preparing the spreadsheets for your newest tournament.

Dump the lot, close the account. It can't have been very convenient taking turns on 1 account can it.

Get a new account and start fresh, the new you. ;p

So it's sort of like feminine intuition then?

It's about doing what's right even if it's difficult or painful.

I guess you could say that, just like feminine intuition is an irrational female superstition thing.

He gave two options. One is for one person to get it with no mention of which person and the other is for no one to get it. Then you insult him for wanting to pick either, even though they are literally the only two options available. What a strange, small world you must live in.

Well, Beast Run violates the first and pretty much the whole premise of the game violates the last so I guess we're in trouble.

I'm not a man, but when my ex and I split, I kept the account because he wasn't interested in playing anymore. I renamed one of his characters and changed servers with it, left the other one named the same but changed servers also, and changed all but the default costumes on both.

I wish I could change the account login and the real name used on the account, as they're both his. Meh.

First... I don't understand. You had a wife who liked Co*, and you didn't have separate accounts so you could play together?

Odd. But then, being single, maybe I just don't get it. And that's ok. I just would think you'd wanna play together sometimes, if not a lot. Bonding and stuff, or some idocy like that.

Beyond that, though, whoever owns the account gets to decide the fate of the ex's toons. And asking us is... odd. Do with them what you will.
