Trainers are tailors is bizarre update.
Not much time wasted if it's just a matter of hooking an NPC store option up. Can't imagine it took more than maybe an hour.

I would personally have preferred a tailor to be added near the trainer (such as those in the RWZ), not the trainer become the tailor, but its not a game breaker.
The truly bizarre part of the change is that they did this while adding an Icon to Atlas.
But I honestly don't think it's a "waste of money" mostly because I doubt it really cost that much to make the change. That's kind of blowing things out of proportion.
"You don't lose levels. You don't have equipment to wear out, repair, or lose, or that anyone can steal from you. About the only thing lighter than debt they could do is have an NPC walk by, point and laugh before you can go to the hospital or base." -Memphis_Bill
We will honor the past, and fight to the last, it will be a good way to die...
It was an... odd... decision.
Especially since they could have sold or made a reward out of a /tailor command.

My guess is that it was done to try and show off one of the strengths of this game, the costume customization capability, giving easier access for that to newer players (who may not realize there are separate tailors).
ZM's idea is great -- wonder if that occurred to the devs (bizarre if it didn't, considering all the other purchaseable/earnable stuff added with Freedom).

It's a pretty ingenious advertising method if you ask me. It puts the idea that you can change your costume right in front of a player, every time they level up. Considering that now you can see what the pay-for costume pieces look like in the tailor screen, and buy them quickly and conveniently, it makes for a pretty solid business decision.
Mind you, I'm not a fan of merging the people-donut around trainers with the people-donut around tailors. But I'm sure the first time someone gets ganked by a dropship, they'll learn to play dress-up indoors.

I used the costume function of the trainers all the time in beta. Was very handy. My only issue is that training was two click access, and costumes were one click. That should be reversed.
People will still use the tailors when they are the closer of the two options, and to unlock costume slots.

yeah, I'm right along with the "Huh? Um, ok" crowd on that (especially with the Atlas tailor.) Personally I'd STILL like to know why they didn't make the trainers also able to accept base upkeep payments... I mean, logically, these would be some of the most trusted people in Paragon/the Isles, but they don't get to take your rent?
Yea it's nothing big. But you got the point it was kinda a useless thing to stick in the game. I'm sure you all could've thought of something better to do with your time, than stick that in the game.
I was just wondering mainly why they did that? To me like I said it's bizarre and seems useless. We already had tailor shops in game. It's also no big deal.
So are the tailor shops getting taken out of the game? Now that trainers are tailors we don't need the tailor shops?
The 'why' is easy:
They want players to access the costume creator as often as possible and playing with one of the most celebrated character creators in gaming and making as many unlock costume piece purchases as possible.

And RWZ is only really an option for hero side: Mercy Island doesn't have the luxury of easy access to a tailer. You'd have to zone and do a fair bit of running to get to any tailor!
(yes, people do play Villains)

It's just a nice QoL change. That's it. I like it. Only funny thing is the addition of an Icon to AP... but that might have been added earlier in the i21 dev cycle (they'd been working the AP revamp for a year!).

Once Freedom goes live Aurora Borealis will be my new go to tailor. I've been using Trina for years but Aurora is conveniently located right next to the Ouroboros exit in IP.
7 more years from now we'll wonder how we ever lived with tailor trainers.
One possible problem is crowding on the larger servers. If you are trying to quickly train, it's going to be annoying having multiple people in the way because they're editing costumes.
If you were going to Serge before travel powers you were Doing It Wrong. Cutting across KR to the Indy Port tunnel and playing tiptoe-through-the-mobsters up that one street is much quicker, and even a fumblefingers like me has only once managed to get killed doing it.

I didn't notice the new ICON in Atlas to be honest and I always forget about RWZ access. BUT I usually am always visiting the trainer in short order so why not put it with them? Also now that we have the costume parts available via gleemail (i.e. incarnate unlocked chest emblems) it's nice to be able to throw a random chest emblem on then be able to fix it as soon as I log the character into the game instead or running to Steel or remembering the above places that I always forget. :-)
My only concern, like someone else already mentioned, is more people loitering around trainers. We'll see how it goes.

I was just curious what the reason behind trainers being tailors is?
Personally I find that part of the update bizarre. It looks like the developers wasting money on something not needed in the game. The game has a tailor store.
