Can the new game account still be attached to an NCSoft master account which already has CoX on it? Not sure if they have that capability or not, but surely someone here knows...

Is there any way that we can buy this as a gift for somebody else?

Just to be complete, what I did to test this was to buy one of the codes, then when it asked to use it I logged into my master account, it showed a list of all valid accounts I could use it on which were my trial accounts, and I picked one of them. It applied the code and then asked me to put in my subscription options. I picked one month subscription, then immediately turned around and canceled it. I ended up with a trial account upgraded to subscriber status for one month, within my own primary master NCSoft account.

I presume you could also just make a brand new account under your master account and apply the code to that.

I also bought *another* code and when it got to the point where it asked me to apply it to something, I just said "keep shopping" and bailed out. My master account now has one of those account codes hanging, ready to apply but currently unused.

So:

1. You can buy the code today and use it to upgrade a trial account that is already in your master account. Directly tested.

2. I presume but haven't explicitly tested that you can create a new game account within your master NCSoft account with the code.

3. You cannot apply it to a game account that is currently subscribed: it did not even give me the option.

4. You can buy the code today and bank it for a future date. Directly tested. However, while I believe you will be able to use the code after August 29 if Freedom hasn't launched I have no idea if this code will still work the same way *after* Freedom launches, and I don't think its safe to make such presumptions. It *probably* will, but I won't assert it will. So its safe to bank so you can jockey to get about a free month under Freedom by using it the day before Freedom launches, but I would want dev confirmation it will work the day after Freedom launches.

Arcanaville, did you get an option to use a referral code when you made the new account?

Still hate the visit Winscott mission- make it dropable, have it give actual exp or remove it altogether. PS- Down knows who you are.

I went ahead and tried this and can verify that it does work. I used the code and created a 2nd CoH account under my main NCSoft master account.

I applied to an existing trial account. I didn't attempt to make a new one. If I feel like becoming Yet Another City of Heroes Subscriber I might try to go through the process of making a brand new account. Although even for me these two dollars are starting to add up. I don't want to find myself having to deal with NCSoft collections:

Now I understand that you can only use one of each 'box' type on the same account, but I have a third account that I purchased a GR code cheaply for (found it in the sale bin), but never even paid a second month on it. Since I have not used a original CoH box code on it, would I be able to add it to that account? I can understand that I will not be able to add a cheap $2 month to my main account that has been around since a month after launch, but might this work on a recent GR account to add a cheap month?? Just asking.

I don't have a problem. I can stop any time I want.
I am tempted to start a fourth and fifth account this way....

Just trying to figure out If I start them to get a couple extra free "premium" character slots will they even be playable with only Tier 2 Premium Unlock Permissions.

Failed to buy it with PayPal but it worked with a credit card.

Hey, I paid for the CoH and CoV collector boxes, and that'd be infinitely more than a Freedom player will pay for a free account.

As for GR, I think it's worth it for Premium accounts. That's why I bought it (on sale) for both my old accounts. This third one won't have it.

Edit: Actually I haven't yet decided where to apply GR. It might make more sense on this new account since it's a trial containing two GR characters. On the other hand there may be more benefit in applying it to the old account and just starting GR characters there from scratch.

My understanding is if you bought the GR expand or the GR complete collection, you'll still have exe to GR if you drop to premium.

So RMT spammers get full excess to all channels for the low low price of $1.99.

For a month, yes. After that, no, they only get access to the Tier 1 channels, which are things like local and help. You have to be at least Tier 2 to get access to private /tells, and at least Tier 3 to get everything else opened up.

After reading through this thread, and doing a bit of investigation, I went ahead and bought a $1.99 CoH code. I applied it to an old trial account that was created way back when the devs handed out prestige bonuses (at the time, trial accounts had full SG access). After reactivating the old trial account, I immediately canceled the subscription, and my intention is to have this second account lapse into premium status.

To confirm, as others have, the CoH code purchased for $1.99 can be applied in one of two ways.

1. It can be used to create a new CoH account within your master NC account.
2. It can be used to upgrade a lapsed CoH account (trial or otherwise).

I'm an 84 months vet, and most of the folks I used to team with have long since left the game. This has created a problem in putting new toons into existing SG/VGs. I plan to create what essentially will be an SG-invite mule. This should be possible, because Premium Accounts will have SG privileges (while basic F2P accounts will not). Of course, my assumption is that premium account characters will be able to invite to their SG. (If I'm wrong, eh, it's only a couple bucks).

One other point. Premium accounts will be limited to two character slots, PLUS any existing characters. I recommend folks buying this $1.99 deal with the intention of having it lapse into a premium account create placeholder toons on all the slots. So, when the sub lapses into premium status, you won't be relegated down to only two character slots.

I'm pretty sure all of the foregoing is accurate, but if I'm mistaken in any area, I welcome any correction.

Q. Just wondering Posi, where are the new dance emotes we were told would come with GR?

I'm pretty sure you will drop to two character slots open, regardless how many you have made.

I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.

Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.

So sad to be ending ):

You may be right. The following is what the web site says about premium accounts and number of character slots:

"2 total, plus slots that were unlocked or directly purchased"

So, it's a bit ambiguous. 'Directly purchased' is straight-forward. But, what constitutes an "unlocked" character slot?

EDIT: Yes, you are correct. From the FAQ:

"One notable difference is that Free players will be limited to two character slots total, plus any character slots directly purchased or earned through Veteran Rewards. All existing characters will be saved and reenabled if a player subscribes as a VIP player."

Actually Tony, you get ONE Reward token for having purchased a box copy in the past. So these accounts should be automagically given one reward token on top of the completely free one getting them to Tier 2 and the Tier 2 unlock permissions.

Now this will be different for a NEW player coming into the game, but for a person using a these as a second account, it is a good idea. Buy the box, only create two characters for now during the free month. When Freedom hits you will be premium with T2 unlocks (which does get you SG access if you have a personal SG like I do)

The sweet spot to me in using as a extra account is getting the T4 unlocks. MA w/rewards and reward merits, etc. If this is a extra account you will not need new powersets unlocked or AT's unlocked, just make those characters on your main account. (Tier 7 would be nice for the use of IO's but that would be very expensive.)

So my thought would be take that account once Freedom hits, buy 7200PP ($90 unless there is a bulk discount price) and buy like 20 more slots (6400PP) leave the other 800PP for 5 months of IO licence once you get some characters up in level.

So now for the price of a 6 month sub, you can have 22 slots, free forever, with T4 reward unlocks. Might just be worth a looking into.

Hold on, so I don't even get to keep the free character slots that came with the GR code? I haven't used them yet, but hell, this is starting to piss me off a bit, because it sounds like I am being ripped off.

Technically, 17.99 because you still have to buy a month's worth of time before you can play, apparently. That free month doesn't count until you've started subscribing.

Which, to be honest, is lame. I had a few friends interested in picking it up, one even purchased the game, because it advertised it's free month of gameplay. They were disappoint to discover that you still have to purchase a subscription at full cost, first.

If you're planning on playing Premium then you get to play the game for Free. There's nothing anyone can do to rip you off aside from somehow implanting viruses on your computer.

You buy the code for $1.99. You have to sign up for a subscription plan, but you can then turn around and immediately cancel it. You won't get billed until the free month is over, so as long as you cancel before that time you won't pay more than the $1.99.

And even $2 is significant when it comes to RMT and other petitionable activity, because that means there's a cost to doing something that gets them banned. As soon as someone petitions them, that $2 account can be terminated. So we can cost them $2 per petition. Its the same theory behind only allowing Premium players and not free players access to things like global channels. Even if the cost is only something like $5, it means banning has teeth when used against repeat offenders. Perhaps its not enough to completely deter some people, but its something.

No the devs have said that if you had bought GR you would get the two free slots to unlock as well. That is the Free 2 + GR Code 2 = 4 Total.
