Issue 21 Beta Mac Client - Update

Yeah, now I can't start the beta client either.

And here's MY bug: I can see the store fine, the fonts are fine (although if a pop-out menu is too long, I can't scroll down to see the rest). But while it says I have 10000 points in one place, in my cart it says I have zero, so I can't buy anything.

ETA: I tried running repair on Beta again, and it crashed the launcher. Now Beta won't respond at all.

What I've confirmed with internal Devs and Transgaming is:

• Snow Leopard operating system will able to access the Paragon Market.
• Lion operating system will able to access the Paragon Market but boxes appear in place of text. This is a missing font issue from my understanding.
• Apple likes cats.

If you've yet to run the repair option, delete the existing copy of CoHBeta_0.0.0.0_Install.dmg from your Mac’s “Downloads” directory (if it’s still there from the first time you installed the beta) before choosing the Repair option in Launcher.

I don't know if this will help with those who have already run the repair option.

i ran repair. too way to long to load and repair. took a couple of tries but i did finally get into beta. got the boxes but i could figure out how to purchase beam gun without reading anything.

i am running leopard 10.5.7

edit. hours later i'm unable to get into beta at all from nclauncer. tried deleting beta preferences and won't let me in still.

Deleting that did let me get access to Repair again. And yay, more reasons to not install Lion yet.

Now the beta doesnt load at all. Play now does nothing.

Uninstalling & reinstalling the Beta client makes it work...no repair needed.

However, you can only run the game once and then, upon logging out, the Beta Client gets unresponsive from the launcher. I then tried repairing, the launcher quit part way through and I got the following error message in a box.

After repairing (which caused my machine to burp up a "too many forks" error code after the repair and forced me to kill the launcher) I was able to access the market, but there was NO text except those that appeared to be part of an image - not even the boxes that others had their clients cough up. On trying to buy something, my client froze for about two minutes, then told me the connection to the server had been lost, before freezing again and giving me an Assertion Failure crash.

What exactly will I lose if the preference file is deleted? Suppose I should test it.

And how will that affect things when this goes live? I don't mind losing things on Test or Beta but would be sad if I lost game settings on Live. Can I back things up?

I only lost the stuff in the Graphics and Audio tab. So I had to resize my window, turn off a few graphics things that are hard on my machine, turn down the volume, etc. My keybinds were still there, though.

For the time being I will post Beta issues related to the updated Mac client and the Paragon market in this thread. Zwillinger, please let us know if we should be posting this elsewhere.

My experience on a MBP running OS X 10.5.8 so far:

I saw Zwillinger's note about deleting the COHBeta_0.0.0.0_Install.dmg file after I "repaired" the client, but before I started the game. I went ahead and deleted the file at that point. After I had my first crash accessing the Paragon market (more about that later), I was able to restart the game without any problems. So maybe deleting that file helps even at that point...

Paragon Market was also missing some of the fonts, though there were no "funny" characters taking their place:


I was able to purchase some of the power sets one the character creation screen and made it out of the Galaxy City tutorial into AP. After spending some time in the Paragon store in AP, I had a total crash of my computer where it prompted me to restart the machine and created a crash report for Apple Support after it rebooted. If that crash report is of interest I can post it or e-mail it.

After restarting the beta client, I tried the Paragon store a few more times, though spending more than 5 minutes in the store leads eventually to another crash (though none as severe as the first one so far). It does not seem to be related to specific parts of the store.
