Art Poll: Signature Characters

Best female is Ghost Widow, hands down.

2nd best female for me is Ms. Liberty.

Best male is almost too hard to pick, since there isn't a clear standout as with GW. I do really like Black Scorpion and Recluse among the villains, Synapse and Foreshadow among the heroes. (Although I keep coming back to Coyote. I simply adore that look, so brilliant in its simplicity. It shouldn't even work, but red, white and brown with a touch of black and gray mesh together terrifically.) I think I may have to go with Hero 1 as well, because he really does have an amazing look. Foreshadow in second place.

I'm not a huge fan of War Witch's design, since she's mostly comprised of player-accessible parts other than the hair. It's not different enough, I guess. Noble Savage is a cool concept, but he's rather like teen Titans' Cyborg with the busy-ness of his appearance. Plus it seems like he'd drag that robot leg around, it's so huge.

Nowhere, yet. You can see them from a distance in the Lambda Sector cutscene, that's where that screenshot is from. We encountered them in the Praetorian Invasion events, though, and I'll bet dollar to donuts that we'll be fighting lots of them in the Underground.

Issue 16 made me feel like this.
Warning: This poster likes to play Devil's Advocate.

Probably also to be placed at the end of Maria Jenkins' arc, I'd imagine.

They're not really meant to be fought solo by non-incarnates. They open with an unresistable PBAoE stun and every attack they have debuffs defense and resistance.

Warhammer 40 000 says: The latter, every time!

More seriously - and I don't want to keep hounding David over this - I know the art team are excited about the new visual tech. I'm excited, too, and I do appreciate a lot of the new finishes on old pieces. But as you yourself noted, metal does not always equal shiny (sometimes it equals long hair, but that's besides the point). Metal can be painted, metal can be worn, metal can something other than chrome steel (I'd personally pick cast iron over brass for a Steampunk character, myself).

This actually goes back to a previous argument I've had with the community, which is the reverse, ironically enough: Black surfaces could and should be reflective, too. People cited optics and told me that black metal can, by definition, not be very reflective or it wouldn't be black. I cited black black shiny reflective cars and was told that this wasn't metal but paint and so it didn't count. Can you see how I might be contradicted just a little bit when "that's painted" is used both as an argument FOR and AGAINST reflectivity?

Really, though, David's word is good enough. My concern is (was) that in their excitement over the new tech, the art team may either neglect or replace more conventional, less "shiny" (in the abstract sense) pieces in favour of more visual flair, but David's posts on the subject indicate that he's well aware of the potential problem and working on various solutions. And, really, that's good enough for me.

The model could be used with a different set of powers for that arc though...

You know, Looking at Tyrant's armor costume, I think taking some bits form it would do a great job of Fixing my few qualms about Statesman's look.
Taking the Utility belt off and adding a silver/white metallic one, Putting silver/white armbands and chin gaurds, keeping the cape, making the Face-plate helmet go back a bit more over the head, just enough to look like it's staying on with something other than fishing line, magic, or spirit gum, and tak. away the under-mask. Keep the cape, Ditch Tyrants chest armor. BAM, perfect look for Statesman. It also would represent his "Tank" concept better.

He has metal mostly as style elements, Unlike Recluse,Tyrant, or Reichsman his mirrors, he doesn't need armor.

Sister Psyche needs an update. Badly.

Her costume is comprised of nothing but player accessible costume pieces (not always a bad thing), and she looks a little dated.

Out of all the signature characters, she is most in need of a visual upgrade.

I think the faceplate is actually attached to his mask. It serves no protective purpose, it's just there to evoke a Greek soldier because of where his powers came from.

Yeah, but again, I'm speaking from the perspective of removing the mask when advocating these minor changes.
I just think it's weird to have a mask over your mask

And I think adding some Eagle-themed silvery white armbands/bracers and a silvery white metal belt to replace the utility belt would better serve that concept, (Think Wonder Woman) while solving the problem of his patriotic "All American Hero" costume not having enough white to really sell the idea for me.

I'd have to pick Black Scorpion. His angry face and whatever is left of a body encased within his thick armor does well to portray a technological madman. Running at maximum power, armed with a dangerous scorpion tail that shoots, he could do some serious damage. The fact that he's a brute archetype makes me think he could level a city block in a frenzy.

Another worthy AV... anyone remember Maestro? He's an Archvillain in one of the Striga Isle story arcs. I've always admired the crazed magician look about him.

Here are my choices in no particular order

Black Scorpion:
His entire look is amazing and (mostly) unique to him. He also reminds me a hell of a lot of another game I really like. Which takes place in space, far far into the future - where there is only an eternity of carnage and slaughter and the laughter of thirsting gods...

Rularuu/Ruladaak/Faathim/Lanaru: They look titanic, they are titanic. Just completely fantastic model design and speaks volumes about the beings they represent. My favorite is Lanaru.

Lord of War: Hro'Dtohz: The Rikti overall are a pretty faceless lot, but Hro'Dtohz manages to stand out. In particular the cape really makes him stand out as a war leader.

The Honoree: This Zombified Hero 1 looks suitably disheveled, deranged and dangerous.

I know the poll is long closed and the thread kinda done but...

I LOVE the new look for Diabloique. [except why are all the new ladies so scantily clad? XD]

But i'd say my favorite female look would be [in no particular order] the new Diabolique, Ice Mistral [except she needs new hair] and Belladonna Vetrano [has perfect hair].

Favorite Males are Synapse/Neuron, Woodsman, and Scirocco [but the last two have yucky faces IMO].

I would really like to see a battle image of Scirocco and Ice Mistral versus Borea and Levantera because they are all tied by Lore and are pretty interesting characters from the little bit of backstory we do get.
