When are you going to update all the models
eh...how often do we really look at a character's hands?
Now, I admit the wooden spoon hands the Huntsmans had bothered me, but soon as I get into the game, it's a distant memory. |
When making one particular character, I went through a lot of gloves until I found the hands I wanted to go with. Hands matter. They're easily some of the most distinctive features that define us as humans, especially if they're animated to operate well. Our hands are some of the most expressive parts our bodies, pretty much second only to our faces. They matter.

Fingers, if only inarticulate fingers, would be cool, I don't take notice of my hands too much. And there are certain gloves that look more like mittens than others. But that facepalm emote makes it REALLY obvious...
@Winter. Because I'm Winter. Period.
I am a blaster first, and an alt-oholic second.

There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. People who are focusing on the fingers are kinda missing the point here.
The models as a whole are antiquated. They worked very well for their time but now with all the newer graphical updates the older player models are REALLY showing their age. They need to be updated. I don't mean whole new skeletons, with whole new animations, that would be nice but probably unrealistic. I'd be happy with higher poly count on our base models. The game has a built in LoD system that will already down grade the models for slower systems, I'm just asking to go in the other direction for people with higher end machines. I want to see less boxy appendages and more curvier features. Same with all the old costume textures, there should be a higher res option for all the old looks as well.
That is a great deal more feasible with the current system and a much needed upgrade to the game's graphics at this vital stage.
Caios - Modern. Vampire. Cowgirl, not Catgirl.
Karnage - Monster. Psychopath. Fun at Parties.

[*]Eye appearance separate from face map. |
[*]Shape sliders for eyes. |
[*]More head polygons, or at least a better bump/normal map. |
[*]Animated hair. |
[*]Longer skirts. |
[*]Skirt physics. |
[*]Four, six or eight-arm cossie option. |
[*]Jiggle physics. |
But I would really really like flat sandals that don't have knee socks. Seriously? WTH is wrong with people? Who DOES that?

I would love jiggle boobs physics

Only if we players of the male characters get equal dev time with the physics of the jigglyparts.

In any case, and NS has referenced this before--ALL the old textures need updating. I wouldn't even mind mitten hands that just looked better.

Fingers and Hands are pretty hard to draw and design, In a Video game like this it alot tougher to draw it it up and make a 3d Model of it.
Never play another NcSoft game, If you feel pride for our game, then it as well, I Superratz am Proud of all of you Coh people, Love, Friendship will last for a lifetime.

I honestly could not imagine caring about my characters' fingers - unless it leads to the long awaited Stooges melee - in which case /signed.

You're trying to apply real world feelings to a video game where it doesn't necessarily have to match up. Better textures for hands and feet? sure. But it's no sweat off my back if we don't have individually animated fingers.

Your opening post, on the other hand, was not something i felt any urge to support. In my opinion if your first post had been this one it would have been more constructive and well-received.

I've long since realised that the kind of artwork which looks best overall is the kind that not only gets the character's hands right, but also does something cool with them. If you look at older shows like Dexter's Lab and the Powerpuff Girls, a lot of the time people will have just a squiggly line where their fingers should be, and that's a large reason why their animation style looks like chicken scratch, no offence to Craig McCracken. By contrast, the absurdly-named Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go! - a show with a budget so low it's a small wonder it exists at all - still manages to look amazing for one simple fact: The details in animation are about 50% hands, just because of the character design chosen.
A believable hand, just like a believable face, can go a LONG way towards making uncanny valley characters look and feel more real and pleasant, and it can make utterly ridiculous character like super sentai robot monkeys actually look at least somewhat realistic. City of Heroes, in turn, loses greatly for not being able to capitalise on this. Sure, some of our newer faces are very, very good, but they still suffer greatly for our characters' inability to act in a believable way. Everything we grab, we grab with a closed fist. Every time we type, we type with the whole hand. Every time we point, we point with all fingers. It's like the game was designed with a closed fist in mind, and no-one really thought that closed fist would be open much.
*edit*
That's not to say you're wrong in preferring what you do. I just feel there is a legitimate argument to be made for improving hands as a general thing. Not necessarily with separate articulated fingers, but at least adding more 3D details to suggest there actually ARE fingers there is a must. This isn't 1998 any more.

I thought you meant they'd have to change the whole skeleton to add figners
|
*facepalm*
Adding animated fingers means altering the current skeletons. You really have no clue what you're talking about, do you? |
NOW i remember why i hadn't bothered responding to a GT post for over a year. It's like attempting to converse with a particularly repetitive and annoying chatbot.

"How do you know you are on the side of good?" a Paragon citizen asked him. "How can we even know what is 'good'?"
"The Most High has spoken, even with His own blood," Melancton replied. "Surely we know."
