I was quite surprised seeing that great big coiny thing above Marauder's head, I'm not sure what to think of it. Great for new players who don't know any better but all the same, an eye sore.

Hopefully like most HUD options there'll be a way to turn it off and on to please everybody

Slides 7-9 look to be of our new powersets. Beam gun being fired by what looks to be a character with the new Defense set in #7, #8 looks similar to the one Time Manip. animation I know of from the I21 video, and I know Street Justice has some kind of uppercut for its Tier 9, and that's certainly what slide 9 looks like. We don't have an uppercut attack like that in game now. Nice Mike Tyson's Punchout/Street Fighter vibe to it. If the whole set feels like that, I know what I'm getting with my first 800 points.

Hey. Look. It's City Hall.

The "quest giver" pic (that's what the file is called) is just really poor taste. Did we honestly need "quest givers" with question marks over their heads? This has been ugly in every game I've seen it in, and it's even uglier here.

That one pic of horror aside, everything else is aces... Up until pic 48 or so, from where they're all old pictures, I assume from previous Issues. The new costume bits are awesome, truly. They remind me a bit of Stealth, but with better boots and gloves and some other doodads. The path auras are even better. FINALLY we see some actually dense, not-so-transparent effects, and I could not be happier about this. The one thing that bugs me the most in 3D graphics has always been highly-transparent sprites, so seeing that dense fire aura and the Tron Cycle wall were a very welcome sight.

Really, zones look great, costumes look great, powers look great. Not much more to say.

Basically everything that samuel said here I hope that feature to have the quest giver can be turned off.

Was another step added to character creation really necessary?

Had to dumb it down for the newbies.

I hope we can still jump around the character creator like we can now. I dont want to have to choose my origin first. Creative processes aren't always the same.

The tabs at the top suggest that you can hop around

Hopefully that's a waypoint marker and not something that floats above all the contacts' heads.

There's going to be some kind of icon that floats above the heads of NPCs that have tasks for you - so I assume it'll disappear once you've done those tasks.

Regardless, hopefully it can be turned off in options.

Again, how do you know this?

I would agree. We already have a visual indicator when the contact is selected, they're on the map, and they have a little ring around their feet. I don't think they're that hard to see, and the ring is kind of immersion breaking enough.

I don't really find it to be a bad idea for someone new to the game. You can skip over the tab if you want, and the help is there for new players. Letting new players get into things more easily is a good thing.

Which article is that? I haven't seen anything anywhere talking about indicators over contacts heads, so more info would be nice.

I'm not sure about that. The screenshot in question is called "questgivers.jpg," and I know developers have a habit of calling things on their side by what they are and only giving the fancy, unique, specific names on the player-side of things, like how Devices is internally called Gadgets.

I worry that this will be exactly the kind of mechanic that pretty much every Fantasy MMO uses, which is to say contacts who have missions for you will display a "coin" with an exclamation mark above their heads and contacts you have finished missions for will display a "coin" with a question mark on it.

Then again, given that this is a "coin" with an arrow on it, I do hope that you're right and I'm wrong, and that this hideous thing only appears if you slap a waypoint onto a contact. And even then, I honestly preferred the little arrow waypoint. It looked more like it was part of the UI, like something a character wearing HUD goggles would see printed on the glass. This coin thing looks like it's part of the environment, because it's proper 3D. It kind of makes the game look like those old Sims commercials where live action actors would walk around with the green double-pointed pyramid thing over their heads.

To be completely honest, I don't believe that even auras around characters' feet were necessary in the first place, but them at least I could get, since they're not as obvious if you don't look at them. But the coins are just... A bit too much.

---

Like I said, though, everything else is amazing. I have no REAL complaints.

For all you know the screenshot could have been renamed to something else by massively Dont automatically assume that the filenames stay the same.

And on the Devices part... it is not all that strange for internal projects to have slightly (or in some cases) wildy different names to their "public facing" name.

I know that Wizards Of The Coast used the name of Mac sound files for some of their their early expansions due to something quirky that happened when you opened folders that shared the same name as the sound file

It looks like origin has to be chosen first, according to Dumpleberry's quote of Archon Helios at the convention.

They also talked about it at the Comic Con panel. It's one of several changes to the method of getting contacts. Another is a list (in the Contacts tab) that will show contacts that have missions for you right away, and a teleport button to instantly take you to them.

Also, the Contacts are supposed to have animations (in addition to the arrow icon) that will help you to distinguish them better.

Apparently, in the Underground Trial, Desdemona has a little portrait icon hovering over her so players can keep track of where she is.
