I mostly use Facebook to keep up on what my sister is doing, since she lives on the other side of the country. Personally, I don't have much info on there. I don't have any silly apps or games added. And there's not much there to steal. And that's the thing about Facebook... people can only see what you're silly enough to post on there.
Don't post every minute detail of your life, don't install dumb apps that can compromise what info you do post, and don't accept every friend request you get from people you don't know. If you're smart about it, you have nothing to fear from facebook.
And then you can have an account with nothing on it (ie nothing to steal) ready to use whenever a promotion like this comes along.
Hehe I can't wait to try out the facepalm emote. Someone post a pic of it!

Do exactly what you said - Sign up for a throwaway facebook account with a throwaway email address and then throw it away when you're finished or just ignore it until the next facebook promotion.
I can confirm that the promotions tab exists now. You might have to click on "More" on the pages list in order to see the link.
yeah i don't like that it requires a facebook account, i refuse to use facebook so i guess ill just wait till its in the store and i can use my monthly point stipend to pay for it

1: You have to have a Facebook account. Make one with as little personal info as possible if you're concerned about privacy issues.
2: 'Like' the City of Heroes Facebook Page
3: Under the City of Heroes Freedom banner on the left is a list of options. Click More at the bottom, then go down to Promotions and click on it.
4: You will get a code come up that can be copy and pasted into your Enter A Serial Code page on the NCSoft Account page.
-(For EU Players Only:
Click on the International Code Link in the bottom right corner, this will change the code in the bar to one for EU accounts. The code will not work otherwise.)-
5: Apply it to the account you want. Warning: You can only get one code per the terms and conditions, so choose wisely.
6: Ta-Da! If all is done right, you can Facepalm with ease.

Okay. I had two people I know with facebooks account do the promotion. Both got the same code, and the code was said to already be in use.
Anyone know what would be going on?

On the FB front, I put in a name (my character's name) and an email/password combo then skipped the other steps and just liked the page. No personal info like college, University or workplace like they asked for, it's all skippable.

Upon creation of the account - it recommended to me people in two other states I've lived in - most of whom I have not spoken to in any way in over 5 years, recommended my actual High School as a follow or whatever. Now, I haven't used this computer for chatting with any of the people it recommended that were in the state my high school was in, none of those people should have had the email address I signed up using. How did it know to link me to these people even as far as recommendations go? THAT is my issue with FB - even putting in minimal and throwaway info I feel it had to somehow violate my privacy if it somehow knew to link me to those people.
That is simply too intrusive for my comfort level online - given that I have a stalker ex-husband that I've moved half-a-country away from and he doesn't currently know what part of the country to find me in - believe me, my privacy online is extremely important when my real name or info about who I am friends with is concerned. So, got my emote - TYVM and now the account is set for perma-delete in 14 days. At least until the next time I have to create a throwaway FB. Next time I have to do this I'll use _no_ real info and a hotmail acct or something, but sheesh, throwaway emails are one reason I have a domain.

But went to another computer and got the code. So no need to get anymore. Only have the one account.
