How to make LARP more respectable:

2. ??????????????????????????????????
3. Profit!

And how exactly does that differ from real life? No matter where you go or what you do you'll find the same thing is true. And it's true for both men and women.

Also, there's a better chance of meeting a single girl in a LARP event than around a game table. Has anyone ever seen a single girl at a game table? I've never, not even at table top gaming events.

I met my wife at a gaming table. And, yes, she was single when I met her.

Jay Doherty: Yes, there was this one night that I was ready to go home but had to drop the browns off at the super bowl before I left for home. While on the throne it hit me. I stayed for a few more hours and that why we have the pain pads in the game.

Congrats! I never saw that it could happen...kinda. To be fair, I have dated a few girls myself that I met at a gaming table, but all of them had been dating someone else at the table when I met them.

When I was in college, I used to make fun of the guys that would run around and smack each other with foam covered-pvc. About a year or so into my graduate program, I realized that when you go to a movie? Ya, that's watching people larp for a living...and getting paid obscene amounts of money to do so.

Side note...I also thought those same guys were weird for watching anime...and now I have an anime library that fills 15 shelves of my bookcases... >.<

Interesting observation.

Doesn't make LARPers look any less silly.

I don't care that this was done for kids; it was written by a Who writer, features videos from the Doctor, and you get to run around and do cool stuff.

Not disagreeing with you, that grown people whacking each other with cardboard and throwing bean bags at each other whilst wearing fake robes and armor looks silly. BUT...well...who are we to throw stones? Some of the stuff everyone does looks silly. I think grown men who obsess over sports teams is a bit silly.

Ya but those people getting paid obscene amounts of money usually have an interesting story to tell to at least some group of people and special effects cgi that sort of thing make it look good.

You know what I think when I hear the term LARP, "lightning bolt lightning bolt" and everything I've seen on the internet makes it look as lame as it sounds.

Really like the idea of Dr Who LARP. Got a little thing going between me and some friends that we should go to a Medieval LARP dressed as The Doctor with various companions, though I generally have a good view of LARPers.

I am the Blaster, I have filled the role of Tank, Controller and Defender
Sometimes all at once.

A story to tell that they didn't write, along with cgi they didn't do. And really, when it comes to cgi, is standing in front of a green screen any less silly than what the other guys do?

Because who cares if she has the same interests as you, if a chick isn't hot she's not viable girlfriend material, amirite?

I was with my wife when I started LARPing, so I will say that HOT is in the eye of the beholder. The statement was a sarcastic one, and one meant to poke fun at myself as much as anything else.

There are some very well done LARPS, but there are a greater number of the well done ones in Europe. Here are some trailers for several.

Here is a US larp based in the SE

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2H8Dm4gBC80

Here is one of the larger European ones.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yv18y...eature=related

Both were filmed by film students.

The budget of some Euro LARPs is larger than some of the movies that go straight to video. The second of the two tends to have about 3k people attend for the weekend at I think it is 150 Euros a pop. US LARPs tend to have MUCH less money to spend on FX and such.

Having gone to a few Gencons I can attest to this!
