A returning Altaholic confesses - A rallying call for returners!

Following on from the great thread concerning how to get a level 50 when you can't seem to concentrate on one character I have resorted to casting my net into the forums for assistance.
I played for about 2ish years then left about 2 years (roughly) ago. Just after ED, as it took the fun out of my tanker.
I've come back and found that someone went and put a lot of the fun back in! Missions are more varied, fitness is inherent, there is loads to do!
One big downside though is that no one seems to be around to see it anymore, which is a massive shame. I used to have to say no to teams all the time when I wanted to solo in the past, now I almost never get an invite. My old SGs are full and dead and, although I can see the place isn't a wasteland, there doesn't seem to be a place for lowbies who hate farming anymore.
Now, I do play on union, which may be an issue. Although I tried Freedom earlier, that felt more like it but was laggy from this side of the pond (I assume that was the issue).
So this is a call to anyone who has come back to find that things have changed! All they want is a good team but no one seems interested unless you are farming or out getting purples!
Taking some good advice from the referenced thread I suggest a theme team of old fogeys. Heroes from a pre-ED era trying to make it in a world that no longer understands them. We may not understand about this new Intention System! We may not even care about your new obsession with iTasks and iMissions and iPhones... We want to level it the old way, with mission after hard mission and story arc after story arc. We are even gonna take Frostfire!
Nuts and bolts.
This will be a one night a week thing - no over committing, I have a job and a wife, and sometimes a job of a wife. Next meet to be arranged at the start of each session. I'm not gonna be a hard a**. If I get a lot of interest then we could even make this an SG thing. If there is only one other person out there who this appeals to... we will become very close....
Who knows, I may get a level 50 after 3 years playtime out of this!

Welcome back!

Freedom and Virtue are still the big dogs as far as server population. Maybe give Virtue a shot to see if the lag situation is better.

Also, try posting on the server forums to get a better response.

Good luck and happy heroing!

Thanks for replies.
I actually found a team last night with some other recent returners. I'm starting to wonder if NCSoft have hired Derren Brown for their marketing team......
Regarding posting on server forums, is cross posting acceptable?

Short version of a long rant, easily more than 50% of the people are playing level 50s. I would find out what channels are good for a server and post things you would like to do for whatever server you are playing on, ie you want to do a Synapse TF. If you want to do lower level content, you will be leading over 90% of the time. It is what it is.

I play on Freedom, Virtue, and Victory when I'm not on Justice doing Hardcore where it's expected for you to not be playing a level 50. If you play on Victory, by all means global me since that's the hardest to get teams going on. My global is my namesake.

I have to say that as someone that considers their play style "casual" and prefers solo to teaming with strangers, I am finding the new stuff very "casual-player-friendly." I've been back for less than a month and I've done some new stuff (Praetorians) and at the same time slotted an Alpha for my favourite lvl 50.

I have not completely solo'd to get my Alpha, I helped an old friend do their "Unlock" mission and I've joined an 8 man team twice. Once to do the Terra Volta lvl 50 trial and once as a random invite to smack down Anti-Matter.

Curiously enough I got the most Shards (6) from doing the Anti-Matter story arc as a flashback task force. It surprised me because I thought you only got Shards from lvl 50+ mobs, but I think you can get them from any even con mod once your Alpha is unlocked.

This is a song about a super hero named Tony. Its called Tony's theme.

For me the best part is the teaming and the missions and the party wipes and the never know what sort of party you will have this time. I love pug's.

They are harder and harder to come by (I only manage to get them on Freedom now and then).

So yes I would be interested. If and this is the the big IF, you happen to do them on EU times and at moments I can participate.

(psst -- Nobody tell him that Frostfire is a hero now. )

Welcome back. I hope you find many more years of fun in the game.

2 years ago? But I've been here for 5 years and I joined after ED. Methinks Mr. Peabody has been playing with the controls again.

Did you buy Going Rogue? Most people that actually run content and team are starting in Praetoria at this juncture. Later on, most people, both heroes and villains, will likely be running missions in the revamped Galaxy City ravaged by meteors.

If you are rolling up a blueside hero and starting in Atlas, expect to just find farmers.

Hey WB Hippy! You seem like quite the hoopy frood from your name alone!

I can only give you my experience...the wife and I have played for about 6 years now...so it'd be right after you left, methinks. She's currently off enjoying the "800 lb gorilla of the MMO world", while I'm still happily being super, thanks for asking!

Our home server is Infinity, which is also the location of my only 50. I seldom have problems being asked for teams, and since I solo perhaps more than I should I often give a polite "no". I'd also suggest Freedom and Virtue.

Hope that helps, and WB to the game!

It worked that way at first, getting shards on incarnate level content, but they extended it to content where you exemp down. I think it was a great way to encourage teaming with the lowbies and to pick up badges you may have missed either via flashback or by exemping to a lower level teammate. Even eidelons are higher chance shard drops when you exemp down for a Positron TF

As a few others have said - PuGs end to form off Global Channels these days. Check your server to see what ones are useful. For example, Infinity PuGs form from discussion on Infinity Hamidon, Infinity Badges, and AE_Anonymous. On Liberty, the hoppin' channel seems to be LB. Each server has one or more Globals for forming teams and TFs - and usually those groups are very Pick-Up, with people taking the first characters to virtually "raise their hands".

If you limit your PuG'ing to what forms off Broadcast or wait for an invite, you aren't going to be very successful these days. Just a change of locale for forming them, but they are still out there.

Thanks very much for all the replies and welcome backs
I've started to realize that my addiction is also coming back with this game, playing it all weekend cannot be good for me.
Ditzy (my main Char) is now at 45! Pretty impressive. And I have found many good PuGs from the global channel advice. I also decided to be a little pro-active and start inviting others who seemed to be soloing, that worked too!
I've started some new characters (I'll never learn.....)
And I think I must have a new record with longest time to lvl 3 - 5 years. With Explodo, a fire/fire blaster who my friend designed and I never deleted.
Did the Terra Volta trial the other day, that bought back memories, although when will the devs decrease the time between waves? That took 3 times as long as it should and most of it is standing about.
I'm even starting to build up some IO stuff. Money is a huge issue as all my inf is from old inf drop levels, so I'm poor by your current standards. But some lovely soul chucked me a few mil so I could start looking for IOs, and when the odd rare IO I've made but don't need sell, I should have some more
After a biref period of being a little upset that I never saw anyone I'm now quite liking it. My heros now actually seem like big names in town, not just one of thousands!
So, if anyone ever needs to team my global is @Ditzy I.P
Same goes for anyone who needs some SG members! Mine are currently dead so I'm gonna start looking for anyone else who has some space in an SG with a kitted base... Ditzy don't walk...
TTFN, catch you on the blueside

All the European servers are physically located within the US nowadays, so that likely wasn't your problem. Freedom is just packed. Try Virtue or one of the others.

Actually, I rolled up an alt of my main once Union came open and have been enjoying doing super things with our brethren across the pond. Since they are about 5 hours ahead of me, I log on for their peak hours when the joint is not jumping so much in the States. My alt just hit lvl 20 and got a cape, woo-hoo, so I am likewise on the lookout for lowbies.

"How do you know you are on the side of good?" a Paragon citizen asked him. "How can we even know what is 'good'?"

"The Most High has spoken, even with His own blood," Melancton replied. "Surely we know."
