I am Underwhelmed by Astral Christy and Empyrean Michael

So, having read the overview a couple of times, the way I read things was "okay they're giving those of us who don't like the trials a way to get incarnate threads and such without actually doing the trials. YAY!"

no looking at the actual system

"sooo, if one of my chars grinds through the trials a lot, they can give my other chars threads, shards and stuff.....but I still have to do the actual trials...and if I'm going to take that time, I might be better off running the trials on the individual character.......and spend 5 astral merits to unlock alpha slot...which I haven't yet had trouble completing solo with my trollers, scrappers and tankers....MPY"

I think you misunderstood. The purpose of the vendors is so that only one toon had to grind Trials, but you were always going to have to grind trials if you want anything they have to offer.

yeah, was aware I misunderstood, which is what I was complaining about

so back to demanding non-trial ways of getting threads

I don't so much mind grind, but grind with 16+ people required is annoying

If I'm not on with family and RL friends, I'm usually soloing...and most of my family and RL friends have come to the same conclusion that the trials are annoying

we'd also like content that's actually difficult enough to warrant the incarnate powers (primarily judgment and destiny so far, alpha and interface mesh pretty well without breaking the game, and haven't done much with lore)

On the brightside though, the 10 shards -> 5 threads conversion is now free, and other prices have been lowered, so the incarnate prices without trials have gone down substantially. I still don't think it's where it should be, but it's an improvement.

Thing is ... its epic stuff..incarnate stuff..superaduba stuff....doing it on ur owm or in a group of 8... is normal for this game..basic stuff.. to gain great stuff needs a greater threat and a greater threat needs more folks to fight it..its a grind yes...but i like the idea of needing more to fight a even more apparent enemy.. after all, all throughout history (of superheroes and archvillains) even the good and bad needed more then their normal minions to get somewhere or defend something (justice league for example)

This is my big problem with the system. In an age where most MMOs are going to smaller raids, Paragon has upped the ante for us, and if you're on a less populated server like I am, it can be annoying to try to get into a group.

If there was a solo, or even a one team path to Astrals and Empyreans, I would take it. Statesmen help me, if they let us buy these things in the future with real monies, I'll do it.

the trials aren't more difficult, only more aggravating....and an entire mechanic shouldn't be held hostage to one narrow playstyle

Spider-Man beat down a freaking Herald of Galactus.

I've personally soloed a LOT of the content that was "designed only for teams!"

The Lambda trial has already been duoed.

The completely ARBITRARY minimum number of players to start a trial has absolutely nothing to do with how "epic" and encounter turns out to be.

Being forced to wait around X amount of time for a trial to start isn't epic.
Being forced to listen to the inane ramblings of other players isn't epic.
Waltzing through a trial without any effort isn't epic.

This is epic:

And that's soloing.

Be well, people of CoH.

with this new patch tin mage and apex tfs both have reward tables with 1 astral merit (per 20 hours), 10 threads, or 2 shards

the only thing that we absolutely cannot get outside of trials is empyrean merits

And Apex and Tin Mage are ludicrously easy now with Incarnate powers. Once you have a character with Tier 3s you will blitz through the TFs in about 20 mins. And you can farm those to your hearts content and pocket the Astral or 10 threads.

Definitely a step in the right direction, but I'd like to at least be able to convert Astrals to Empys.

Unfortunately, the Notice --> threads option now costs 12.5 million. Running the weekly strike target was a nice way to gain, essentially, two common components outside of a trial. I'm not sure why the Incarnate system must have an influence sink associated with it.

Apex Task Force
The Apex Task Force now rewards players with a choice between 1 Astral Merit, 10 Incarnate Threads, or 1 Super Inspiration for completing it. This Astral Merit can only be earned once per day, while the Thread and Inspiration rewards may be claimed as many times as the TF is completed.

Tin Mage Task Force

heres the actual stuff from the patch notes, my mistake that it was shards, but its 1 astral, 10 threads, or super insp

I'm still a little confused--is there a way to directly send threads from one of your 50s to another, or do you have to convert astrals? I have a lot of threads on one char that I'd like to send to another.

the only way you can really do that is to convert empyrean merits into 18 thread vouchers

Farming to get Incarnate drops. Nope, no grind here.

That is one of my all-time favourite comic stories EVER! It was AWESOME! Like High noon for Spidey. IIRC, he was zipping about all over NY looking for help from other heroes, but the FF were out of town, the Avengers were all on the west Coast, etc, until finally he'd had enough.

Fantastic story. I think i possibly punched the air lol. I was about 10 or something.

Nice one for reminding me

Eco.

Well said BZB. I do hope solo, or at least small/single team options are not too far away.

Well it was his Symbiote Costume, which increases his powers somewhat.

When people told me Spider-man beat Firelord, I assumed it was in red and blue.

Still, even with the symbiote costume, isn't Firelord still more powerful?

Soloing: Like a 300lb Linebacker being beaten by a six-year-old...it could happen.

Apparently, Firelord forgot he could survive a nuclear attack, travel faster than the speed of light, and nearly impervious to most forms of physical harm. Or that he could have just incinerated the entire city block instead of trying to actually fight Spider-man.

You've never seen a six-year-old headbutt a linebacker in the crotch have you. VERY short fight.
