Anyone else having trouble with ATI 11.6 drivers?
honestly, I haven't upgraded to them, so I can't help you with this.
I am honestly shocked that you are speechless about this. You're the go-to person for video driver questions!
I'll wipe the drivers and reinstall last month's 11.5 release, which seemed to be pretty stable. If I keep crashing, then at least I'll know it's not the video driver. Thanks anyway Saist!

I've had similar problems (not only 11.6, but 11.5). On another thread, somebody said it didn't happen with 11.2. So, I've downgraded to 11.2 and haven't had the crashing issue for a couple days now (it would crash several times a night).

Sadly, ATI keeps dropping the ball on video drivers.
Other users have reported that 11.6 is unstable.
Here is my experience.
10.6 = Stable
10.9 = Stable
10.10 = Unstable (oroboros and contact crashes)
10.11 = Unstable (oroboros and contact crashes)
11.1 = Only briefly used. I don't recall any issues.
11.2 = Stable
11.3 = Stable
11.5b = Unstable (Game will crash after 10-15 minutes)
Others have reported that 11.4 is stable too.
Currently on 11.3 (with 6870 and 5770) 10.6 (with 5750)
YMMV

The 11.6 drivers weren't better or worse than 11.3 in-game for me, and seemed better than 11.5, but the 11.6 were the only ones that led to my video card ceasing to respond (and then recovering) immediately after I exited the game.

I reinstalled 11.5 right before bed, but I'm guessing I'm going to have 11.4 back on there by the end of tonight.
At least I had the foresight to create a directory to house every iteration of the ATI drivers I've used since my last rebuild, so I don't have to go webcrawling for them...

Now that you mention it, I was only on 11.5 for about a week (during which time I barely had any free time to play) before Win 7 pushed me to install 11.6...

Second option. Go to the ATI site and click the Support and Drivers link. Click the link matching your OS and Card combination. Scroll to bottom of page and click the Previous drivers link. Pick your version and the download link is right there.
I do like nVidia's option when you go to their site. After selecting your country you can hover over the Download Drivers link to get a drop down menu and click the link for the Beta and Archived Drivers. Input card and OS info, optionally select whether you want only WHQL drivers or Beta drivers, Search, select driver from list and download link is right there.
It took me much longer to type the instructions for any of those steps than it did for me to get to the pages listing the previous driver versions. On my computers at work I have a file of hyperlinks that I use to take me directly to the previous drivers page for various card/OS combinations that we use.
EDIT: I'm not always at my desk at work, but I have a mapped network drive that I can get to from anywhere in the district. That's where I keep that file. It's faster to download them from the 'net than transfer them across the intranet at times due to switches being misconfigured or problems with the fiber optic cables between switches. We have critters that love sharpening their teeth on fiber apparently.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

11.6 was crashing horribly for me. Went back to 11.5 (and yes, installed 11.6 after an uninstall - reboot to SM - driver sweeper - reboot.) 11.6 crashed on me about 5x in one night - more than COH has crashed in the preceeding month.
11.5's been great for me... except for (yes, mentioning other game) Command and Conquer 3, where I have to kill anti aliasing to see the map. Which is what I hoped would be fixed in 11.6. >.<

11.6 was terrible for me. Reverted to 11.3, no more crashes. Same on my partner's PC. I'm running a 5850, my partner runs a 5770.
I've had this issue too. I've also had to roll back SEVERAL generations from 11.6 to 11.5, and all the way now to 11.3, so yeah. SO FAR 11.3 seems stable.
I've always been an NVIDIA guy before but I thought I'd try ATI this time out. I was a bit reluctant for this very reason, but I'd heard that ATI had gotten better. Incidentally I've been having similar crash issues in Fallout: NV on these new drivers. I'm curious to see if 11.3 is stable for that too.
Guess I shoulda listened to my first impulse.

Not everything is rosy on the green side of the video card lawn. It wasn't that long ago when nvidia drivers killed a bunch of cards with the GPU fan driver bug. We had people here on the forums who had 8 and 9 series cards which died.
With maybe the exception of the GTX 560 Ti the AMD/ATI cards are generally a better value. At this point, its a tough call, but I think I still lean towards AMD/ATI. Now I won't lie in saying that I have been tempted to pick up a GTX 560 Ti but it is mostly a crossgrade and I have plenty of performance with a 6870. Now I might replace that old GTX 260 that is getting a bit old....

Same here. Since upgrading to 11.6, my game freezes constantly and crashed several times today. Screen goes white and I have to close out.
Jumping on the 'I updated to the latest ATI drivers and have had constant crashes since' bandwagon.
Clearly, we need more lasers.
Ditto that - started crashing yesterday, using 11.5, updated to 11.6 still freezing to screen. Played for 45mins without crashing today, then crashed twice in 10mins. As you guys seem to have luck rolling back the drivers going to try that next. Kind of frustrating when this happens at weekends, best time to play imo.
There is always a lot to be thankful for, if you take the time to look. For example, I'm sitting here thinking how nice it is that wrinkles don't hurt. ~Author Unknown
I'm running 11.5 and don't have much issue when I'm solo, while running trials I crashed at least 4 times during one. Also noticed that performance has degraded from 11.4s. Used to have world and character distance at 200% with out issue had to turn them down to 100%. Have yet to try 11.6. I have a 5850 on win7 64bit

Been running 11.5s here since last month sometime. No crashes. Decided not to load 11.6 due to this thread.
Be well, people of CoH.
I had the same Problem and just got the 11.7 driver (early preview!).
It seems stable, played for an Hour so far and no crash occured.

Turns out I was running 11.6s. It seems that you are more likely to crash while on teams...especially trials. I had no issues while soloing. I rolled back to 11.4s and have not had any issues. Looks like I'll be waiting for the 11.7s
a side note: i never downloaded 11.5s on this machine >.>

I've had a lot of problems crashing with my 5850 ATI card. But I'm running 11.6 without too much of a problem so far (including MS raids). Digging around I've found there were 2 issues that contributed to crashing, depending on the game.
One was having Aero turned on under Win7.
The other was having more than one monitor (refresh rate sync problems or something like that).
I wasn't going to give up my dual monitor setup so I've turned off Aero and just accepted a crappier looking desktop. That seemed to work. Pushing my luck I turned Aero back on and killed the transparency. That seems to be holding up so far.
Hope that helps someone.
Any of you try 11.6b (hotfix)?

I loaded the 11.6b hotfix last night. Still locked up after an hour or so. My lockups are almost always on mission exit. It will get to about 75% of the bar and freeze there. But it's just the game that locks for me, not the whole PC.
It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the products of a deranged imagination.
I crashed 4 times tonight, and the only change I've made to my machine since last week was to install the 11.6 drivers (dated 2011-06-15) this weekend.
Is anyone else having trouble with them, or are they relatively stable for others?
