Make my Brute contest! 100 million inf prize!

A Man In Black

Posted

Cuz you know you wanna. >.>

Okay, so now I've got a SS/WP brute I've inherited. I've got a WP/WM tanker, which has ridiculous regen, a ton of hp(not capped but only about 300 hp away) and seems to stand up well in mobs of like 1 million enemies! I pretty much built him for +hp, and relied on RttC regen to keep him alive. He isn't def capped or anything, but his huge amount of hp, plus his regen seem to do the job in almost any situation. So I'm assuming this Brute should play mostly like that. Maybe not as durable, etc, but that's the feeling I am shooting for. I don't wanna be scared to jump into a mob of yellows without popping an inspiration, or something.

I've searched through a bunch of builds on this website and others, and although I've like parts of them, I didn't find one that I liked completely. So your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to make my brute for me!

I'm mainly looking for a tough to kill PvE toon, and possibly a decent farmer, whether in AE, or whatever.

The toon is level 50, and has access to his PPP's. Assume I've already got 5 lotg 7.5s laying around if needed, and a budget of 2 billion inf(over and above the lotg7.5s) for this toon.

Winning entry will receive 100 million inf to pay you for your time, and effort, since I'm like too busy and stuffs. >.>

How does one '"inherit" a brute?

@Rylas

Kill 'em all. Let XP sort 'em out.

Tweak this according to Incarnate, movement preference, etc. But I play something similar, it's solid.

I've seen lots of requests for builds that don't pay anything. >.>

I think most would rather give a decent build to someone that asks nicely than accept a measly 100mil for a great build... just sayin

He asked for a build for a character that's already 50, and neither of those powersets. How does that build in any way fulfil his request?

This is what I would use, 130% recharge with hasten and if you go T4 spiritual it is only 4 seconds off perma-hasten.

Defense is softcapped to s/l with 45.8% defense then 33.6% energy/Negative energy so one purple off of the softcap same with fire defense which is at 32.6%.

with rage which is perma, chance to hit +4s is 95% with all but punch, but that wont be used much anyway since I added gloom and dark obliteration, since gloom is awesome for a single target attack chain.

Why stop at 32.5% defense? Try this on for size. It's softcapped to SL and ENE against everything in RTTC range unless it's an AV. If it's an AV, hitting it with Gloom softcaps you to SL and ENE. Against a cluster of enemies outside of RTTC, hitting them with Dark Obliteration softcaps you to SL and ENE.

You've got enough +recharge to run Gloom > Haymaker > KO Blow > Gloom > Punch > Haymaker > Punch while Hasten is up. You've got a Widow pet with decent uptime, for more single-target damage. For AOE, you've got Foot Stomp (with the Force Feedback proc) and Dark Obliteration. Rage is perma with reasonable overlap; Hasten has 25 seconds of downtime.

Totals: (before incarnate abilities and accolades)
Recharge (before Hasten): 57.5%
Max HP: 2087
Regen (with one enemy in range of RTTC): 51.7 HP/s
Endurance: 3.47/s recovery, 1.62/s for toggles
Attack chain: Gloom > Haymaker > KO Blow > Gloom > Punch > Haymaker > Punch

And all of this is before incarnate abilities. With T3 or T4 Spiritual, you can run G>HM>KO>G>HM>P as your attack chain. (It's .1 second from gapless with T2 Spiritual.) T4 Barrier softcaps you against everything all the time, and lets you push the incarnate trial softcap when your -to-hit debuffs are applied.

As for money, the big-ticket items are the Eradication pieces, the Kinetic Combat sets, the Numina's pieces, the Basilisk's Gaze pieces, and the various procs. You could try a mix of Sweeping Blow and Multi-Strike to cut corners on Foot Stomp's slotting, and lose some ENE def while breaking even on FS's enhancement value. Two of the KC sets don't need the bankbreaking D/E/R Kinetic Combat piece; you can cut costs further by using Smashing Haymaker as an interim set instead. Numina's is only offering you a tiny bit of performance over Miracle or Doctored Wounds in HPT and RTTC; this is probably the easiest place to cut costs. Finally, all of the Performance Shifter pieces could be replaced with common endmod IOs with only a tiny loss of performance.

How could this be improved? I'd like to get an extra slot in Haymaker (a Crushing Impact A/D/E) and Punch (a Perfect Zinger or Hecatomb damage proc). I'd like two more slots in RTTC (probably switching it over to Doctored Wounds 5pc). Manuevers is underslotted. I'd always like to fit in more HP, regen, and endurance. Other than Dark Obliteration, I have no idea where I'd fit purple sets in this build; every other attack is slotted for defense.

One radical revamp I've fiddled with and not yet managed to make work: If you somehow found a way to softcap both SL and ENE without Soul and found a ton of extra endurance somewhere, you could switch to Pyre, slot Ring of Fire for damage, and run a KO>HM>FB>Ring of Fire>HM>FB attack chain, which would cut down on your recharge needs and let you solo AVs/Heroes that like to wander, like Captain Dietrich.

In any event, I hope it suits your needs.

If you really don't like relying on -to-hit debuffs to softcap, here's a softcapped version. It loses the Force Feedback proc and has slightly worse endurance, but it's softcapped to SL and has 44.9% ENE defense.

Oh! Misread the thread. Thought he wanted something other than his current brute. Oh well.

I think this is one of the rare combos that doesn't benefit from Hasten. You actually get diminishing returns from Rage popping too often.

And the winner is PBaRmy!
Highlights of his build, which he PM'd me:
40.6% def to s/l. Notr soft cap, but close, and only one purple more than softcaps if things get rough.
4.82% recovery with only 1.55% consumption.
1221% regeneration with RttC.
42.5% global rech bonus, 112.5% with hasten active.
He took the body mastery pool. It's less offence -but with zero endurance issues, almost capped defence, and lots of regeneration, it was what I was looking for. Here is the build:

That's not strictly a legal build unless you have City Traveler.

In any case, it's easy to softcap, if you don't mind dropping .23 end/s overall. You'd still be clearing more than 3 end/s, which is more than plenty since you don't have a fully saturated attack chain anyway.

You can always swap Super Speed and Indominatable Will if you don't have City Traveller. Indominatable Will is available at level 10, but placed at 14 in his build. Most likely it was a small oversight on his part, and since both are single slotted, it's an easy solution. Anyways, the contest is over, but thanks to all who entered!

I'd def consider getting to that soft cap. You won't have End issues with this combo anyway, esp since the Rage crash hits every 80-90 seconds (combined with WP). But popping purps can get tedious, and you'll want to stay at the cap.

Have fun!

I know the contest is over but I thought I'd post my character anyway.

He is almost capped to S/L defense and is capped to energy with enough regen to mitigate the small bits of damage that get through. He never has any end issues nor health issues. I never bother looking at those bars any more.
The difference between him and the winning build is that the winning build relies on regen to survive, against a larger group enough hits will be getting through to counter that. My build can literally wander into a group of mobs of any size and ne unaffected. Plus his damage is better .

A 40% defense is nice but I agree with TankShock.

Having a S/L def of 40% gives enemies about a 10% chance to hit you barring buffs/debuffs. So approximately 1 out of 10 attacks will hit you.

If you get S/L softcapped to 45%, that gives enemies a 5% chance to hit. That's 1 out of 20 attacks.

To me that extra 5% makes your S/L defense twice as good.

I can't see the builds in Mids just yet (I'm at work).

What I can say is, that while I understand the "cap" mentality, and I'm quite
familiar with Dech's guide on the topic, it's less critical for SS/WP than just
about any other toon. Here's why (based on my own L50 SS/WP Brute).

Unlike most AT's that have to focus on def, this guy doesn't need to - he can
layer that s/l def, with 50%+ of res, with high regen (80HP/sec with 1 mob
on mine, for instance).

Taken together, the res/reg will easily offset the slightly less than capped def.
While most other AT's can't pull that off, *this* guy can.

I can tell you from actual practice that my SS/WP Brute, with his uncapped
def can *park* at a Pylon and I can go to lunch and rest assured he'll be alive
when I get back.

By contrast, my capped SS/Inv cannot. Even though it *is* capped, the 5% chance
to be hit, along with high dmg from a Pylon, ensures that Dull Pain will be *needed*
at some point, and I better be there to push it when it is...

To be certain, the Pylon can't kill either of them, but I can take a comfortable
nap while using the SS/WP...

Defense is one thing, but practical Immunity is even better.
