Have We Seen The Last of Non-Incarnate Powersets?

Some I'd like to see, that are quite do-able with the engine:

-Power Armor Blast. With beam weapons, drunk missiles, pop up chaingun, etc.

-Morphing limbs. For lack of a better term. A melee attack set. Think Prototype, Carnage, Sandman, Plastic Man. Doable, but a lot of work modeling-wise, and a little work animation-wise.

-Totemic animal powers. A defensive power set with a number of mutually exclusive toggles that bestow aspects of a spirit animal on you. Think BraveStarr, Vixen from DC.

Besides that, I'd like to see more 'conceptual proliferation' completed. Dark Control, Psi Melee. Plant Armour. Earth Blast. Martial Arts themed secondary sets for Blasters and Doms, Hand-held weapons as well.

Also like to see this conceptual proliferation extended to the Ancillary Pools. No reason, for example, a Scrapper, Brute or Tanker shouldn't be able to have some Psi-themed abilities in their Epic pool.

I want a Super Speed melee set. There really isn't any attack set in the game that convincingly looks like a speedster.

It would probably be a very expensive set, resource-wise, because for it to be good each power would have to have 4-5 attack animations in it (as opposed to the less impressive "repeat the same animation 4 times" method in Flurry). So, I don't expect it, but I sure want it.

I also want a gadgets-based control set, and other conceptual proliferations as mentioned, like Radiation Melee/Armor and such. I also think we need a Psi buff/debuff set to match up with Psionic Blast and Mind Control.

It's also possible that the studio is working on something that is not this game.

They could use similar 'blurring' effects as used for Dual Pistols.

I'm all for it, but to do it justice you really need the animations, and people don't like long rooting animations, so it's a hard sell.

-It'd need a 'run around the planet and smack your target with a ton of inertia' ala Flash from JLU. You just have the character wind up and take off in a puff of smoke/blur and then a second lader fades back into view coming from the other direction and the target is knocked back and damaged. Just like Hail of Bullets, your character never actually moves, it's just a visibility trick.

-You'd need a 'lash out at all the targets around you in a burst of speed' attack for a PBAoE.

-Rapid-fire fists, like Flurry but actually good looking.

-A kind of 'Divine Avalanche' type attack that increases your Defense.

-Maybe a slow debuff for 'stealing' speed. Kin Melee didn't really have this.

-Of course, a teleport attack power like Lightning Rod.

I dont see it really. both new power-sets and , as we are calling it here "conceptual proliferation" will likely continue. probably more conceptual proliferation just because it would use existing animations and tested effects. i guess the biggest problem with new powers is this. there are 8 damage types in the game. and there are only so many stat effects. can you make something that is distinct and is not directly comparable to another power but inferior or overpowered? I'm sure they can, but i guess thats my big conceptual chopping block, a lot of cool concepts are just too narrow or would be too much like existing ones. another thing is wondering if there are powersets that are too thematically tied to one orogin. people complained that demons were too magic, i can see totemic having the same complaints, and power armor being too tech.

being big doesnt mean you have unlimited resources and time. bethesda is a huge company, and they still cut polearms from oblivion (i went ballistic). heck, the big gorilla only has added one new class since their game launched, and they have more income than some countries. size and resources do increase capacity, but practicality don't just vanish if you toss a wad of 100s at it.

Yeah, I would love a Sword and Pistol Assault set, especially if it game paired with a gadget-based control set.

This is sort of what I meant.

Personally, I would rather see added weapons, and new animations for existing sets. Playing an old set with new animations would make it seem like a new set to me.

It's played on the HUB network about 2 or so in the morning. I catch it when I can't sleep.

Wasn't Dark Control a set that was in the CoH closed beta?

Yes, it's very possible that I'm paying for the development of another game. I prefer not to think about that possibility too much, because the last time that happened... Well...

Let's see... Possible powersets they can explore:

Melee:
- Staffs (Smashy polearms)
- Spears (Pointy Polearms)
- Long Blades (Slashy polearms like scythes and halberds)
- Ice Melee for Stalkers (Since I'm not sure how well just porting the tank version would work for their play style, might need nearly a new set)
- Psi-weapons (A bit out there, but still)

Blast:
- Laser Rifle/gun (Like the Bots MM one)
- Explosives and Heavy Ordinance (might be hard to justify why an explosive is an ST though)
- Heavy Machine Gun (Because Assault rifle is terrible for when you just want a full auto rifle)
- Sniper rifle (Because assault rifle is even worse for snipers. though opposite of Explosives, it will be hard to make this rifle be more than ST)
- Elemental Blast (As in multiple elements, though it's not likely either)

Control/mez:
- Dark Control
- Munitions Control
- Radiation/Energy/light control (another stretch)

Buff/debuff:
- Tactical Strategy (Needs a tier nine called "Tactical Genius" that forces all enemies to shout "CREEEEEED!!!!!")
- Nature set (sort of DE inspired)

Assault (Though technically proliferations):
- Dark Assault
- Radiation Assault

Henchmen:
- Battle Servants
- Magicians/elementals (unlikely)
- Disembodied Weapons (... what?)
- Animals (Stretching the limits of the tech severely)

Armors:
- Beastial Instincts (Probably something like a cross between /nin and shield)
- Plant Armor
- Storm Armor
(Admittedly, those also push it)
- Cybernetic/power body armor

We have more powersets in the works.

Actually, I've often thought that rather than give dominators Illusion Control they should get a totally different set that is thematically similar, but more tuned to dominators. I would have replaced the Phantom Army with three Dancing Blades in this hypothetical set, so I guess that would technically be a powerset with three blades.

(One of these days I'm going to write up the complete design including the insane things I have to replace group vis and the spectral terror and send them to Black Scorpion just to see what he thinks).

But I'm pretty sure the devs are working on non-weapon powersets as well. Care to place a friendly wager on it?

Since swords tend to not have ranged attacks and would probably end up with a smaller number of them than the phantom army, may I suggest summoning five to ten swords of different types with one or two (weak) attacks each? It just doesn't feel like a storm of blades with only three out.

No, but I'll be very interested in seeing them provided they're not another weapon set, marital art or derivative of a set we already have (Dark Control, Earth Blast*).

*Not that I don't want to see more conceptual proliferation, see what I posted before about the subject, but it hardly gets me hyped.
