New Co-Op League Assembly Zone

I had an idea, while broadcasting in multiple RWZ instances, trying to get everyone in the same zone ("What RWZ?" a million times), etc.

Would it be possible to create a new co-op zone that was nothing but a mustering place for assembling Leagues? Have nothing going on in the zone other than getting together to assemble a League.

Call it the LZ - League Zone (and play on Landing Zone) and maybe even give everyone a temp power to teleport there.

Desired improvements:

  • Clear up RWZ, Pocket D, etc for those who want to be there for mothership raids, LGTF, other RWZ or Pocket D content
  • Make it easier to find a trial being assembled - as it is now we broadcast in one instance, maybe send out channel requests, etc. how about just heading to the muster point and seeing what is building?
  • Implied here is that if it is an empty zone you could pack in more players without creating new instances. Hopefully a single instance of the LZ would support everyone most of the time.
Maybe it is one of the big park maps, or maybe it is a big auditorium - I don't know. I do think people are going to get cheesed off at not being able to get into an instance when it is full of Incarnate lollygaggers, and the Incarnates would have a more enjoyable experience finding a league.

Any interest?

I like it. Maybe add some vendors, crafting table and a tailor like in the compound in RWZ.

Sure. Can't see a reason not to.

Actually, it would be more useful to remove the requirement that all members of the teams in the league be in the same zone to start the trial. The big selling point of the LFG queue was to allow people to queue for the trial wherever they happened to be. You were supposed to be able to while away your time in the market while waiting for the trial to start (and you can do this if you queue yourself solo -- you just have no guarantee of ever getting into a trial).

But in practice it doesn't work out that way, because if everyone queues separately you can't tell if you're forming a viable league. The end result is that everyone tries to form full 16- and 24-person leagues the same way they form 8-person teams. And that means it can take that much longer to form.

It's perfectly possible right now to form three 8-person teams in three different zones. If you queue them all at the same time one would assume that you'd all wind up in the same instance -- as long as there wasn't some extra single person sitting in the queue as well.

I'd rather see the devs fix this by providing tools for finding out who's building a league, and who's in the queue. It would also help if there was a dedicated channel for people looking for trials so that you didn't have all have to be physically all in the same location to find a league.

And could we finally fix the silly limitation of the team interface not knowing the AT of a character you've just invited to the team until they enter the same zone? I mean, you can look at the Search dialog and see what AT they are -- why doesn't the system know after they've accepted an invitation to the team?

Rodion, I support that too. I think an LZ and those additional tools would be compatible. Also think that it might be easier to add a new, empty zone than change the interface and provide those tools, so maybe LZ as an interim fix?

I like That_Ninja's idea, so modify my proposal to:

-Use an existing map, name it "League LZ" or whatever
-Make it co-op
-Place stores, invention tables in the map (if you want ambiance you could add transportation objects for looks)
-Have nothing else going on so that you can...
-Increase number of players that can be in the instance

This will be a big QoL improvement for league-ers and non-league-ers of all sorts as listed in the OP.

One of the Resistance base maps would make for a good staging zone, especially as we already go there for the hospital visits on the Trials.

I actually prefer simply expanding Pocket Ds services. Either allow the Arena store to buy enhancers and/or make the bartenders full service stores.

Perhaps add an additional landmark or two to make the main dance floor less symmetrical. Maybe add a market interface.

I wouldn't be averse to that StratoNexus, but what about when the Valentine or Winter Event happens and people are wanting to do that content? Or the RP'ers chilling in the bar who can't get into the same instance as their friends? There is no particular reason Pocket D or RWZ for that matter *should* be a staging area - it seems logical to me to move Leagues out of areas where there are other things to do, so as to minimize the disruption of other peoples' play.

They could all just head to Praetoria and form the leagues there.

Seeing as how it's not open to everyone who can join the league.

I actually ran a league from Studio 55 once. Imperial City has a market, stores, and a Vault. Is there a place to buy inspires?

A Studio 55 TPer would be cool.

This suggestion has been conveyed onward and upward to the development team.

Another logical map to use would be the rift portal room in the Underground - just add a few Vanguard, Longbow and Resistance NPCs for flavor and/or services.

If anyone hasn't said it yet, what about using the old Arena waiting room?

How about the so called "matrix room" that was intended as a waiting area for the arena?

It's even still in the game, even if you can only get to it by glitching underneath a map with an arena. Although I guess it'd still require some work to make a version of it that was its own co-op zone.

It looks really cool and I'd love to see it used for something.
Maybe add doors to one in PD, and the RWZ.

Edit: hrmmm, 3 people in a row suggesting the same thing....

Oooh, I like the "matrix" room and the Praetorian rift room ideas!

Never though of starting a league in Praetoria. Interesting...VIP pass to Pocket D, then to Studio 55. Faster then RWZ depending on where you are.

Still, I'd personally like to see an option that doesn't step on any other players' toes - a zone devoted to league building.

I would like a sort of forming up zone for leagues, but I think the above issue is a much more important one.

While this would work well for the current Trials and the ones we know are coming, not ALL the Trial content has to be pro-Resistance. For example, we could have a Trial where the Resistance has gone too far and is doing something crazy, and we have to stop them. Not necessarily pro-Cole, but it'd make gathering in a Resistance base before hand a bit weird. And then of course there's the possible trials we could have AFTER the Emperor Cole story arc is finished, and we're fighting enemies completely unrelated to Praetoria (though this won't happen for a while). Again, Resistance base just seems weird in that case.

If it's set to be something in Primal Earth, or possibly a pocket dimension (a la Pocket D) or something of the like, then it doesn't step on any future toes story wise. While the Resistance bases ARE really cool, they're just too restricting!

That was my first thought, but Rajani Isa has a point--the waiting room is probably too small if we want everyone to be in one instance.

It could be the foyer, though. Maybe they could have copies of other small maps or map sections linked to it via little glow-spot portals like the ones in the Shard zones. Use distinctive map sections, so people can specify which "room" they're gathering in, and add a few amenities in there. You could have the Library (a copy of the university or the library section of the Midnighter map), the Mole Point, and the Rave (the old Paragon Dance Party map), for instance.
