Kicked off a team for.. wait, what?
I told him in Broadcast that I was very sorry he was having such a hard time, and it felt like everyone else on the team was enjoying themselves. I also said I would continue to enjoy myself regardless of being teamed. I sent him a message basically wishing him good luck, welcoming him to the game, and suggesting he relax a little as the penalty for defeat in CoX is extremely light compared to the rest of the MMO world. . |
But.. my one little complaint is i hate watching rage wars on broadcast
in future Private tells are better =)
as Ood Sigma said....We will sing to you, Doctor. The universe will sing you to your sleep. This song is ending. But the story never ends.
I was pretty okay and do understand your response. I think team leader is an whiner and not because hes a Newb but because he is hard headed

(I finally figured out PHP, so I was and still am pretty ecstatic. )

I was on a BAF last night and the leader was playing these little mind games during the giving of instructions, getting on peoples cases and then when it was silent not speaking as if he was testing us. I just quit the team and got on a lambda instead. Sometimes it's not worth the headache.

Yeah totally in the wrong...sounds like he's to busy trying to micro-manage the team and not havin enough fun.
Probably for the best...he'll probably grow up and think he's gods gift to CoH and start his own sg and get some zealot followers...wait this sounds familiar...wonder if he just ported over from WoW...
Ahh bunch of crazies, new or vet, does it really even matter anymore? lol Some people just don't know when to focus the positive vibes...
"I'm not suffering from insanity...
I'm enjoying every minute of it"
See, you know what I've noticed?
I've noticed that in most teams, if you just keep doing whatever your toon is meant to do, you come out alright.
I'm never a team leader, but it's how everybody else I tend to team with rolls and it seems to go fine.
Of course, the difference is, when I was a new player I didn't assume my **** didn't stink.
So yeah.
Ice/Ice Blaster. Dedication to concept is an ugly thing.
Claws/WP Brute. Sex without the angst.
Every CoX character lies somewhere on this spectrum.

Yeah this game isn't geared like that other game. Especially at that low level there just isn't a reason to follow the tank with very little dmg mitigation.

No relation to Arachnos!
Part Pack: Now the majority of players know how we, PvPers, have felt for years now. Don't want to be so "civil" now that you have been completly ignored, do you?
From your story, it seems like you were kicked out of the team for:
1. Repeatedly disobeying the team leader's orders. He is the team leader; you listen to him or he kicks you.
2. While doing the above, allowing your tank to die. Even before debt, death is still pretty lame - most lowbies don't have travel powers and it's usually a long load time/walk back into the mission, which pretty much wrecks their chances of getting good XP.
3. Arguing with him about his authority over you.
Frankly? I think you deserved it, even if the actual "reason" ("being too hard on noobs") is bogus. If you don't actually care about other people on your team, why bother teaming up? Go kill stuff solo.
So let me get this straight. You joined a team, disobeyed the orders of the team leader (twice!), causing your tank to get killed by doing so, and then whined when he kicked you out for it after arguing with him?
Yeah, I don't think you're clear of all fault here. |
Any team leader who insists on Tank Hugging isn't worth being a team leader IMO, most players know what their characters can handle and anyone with the expectation (generally from other MMOs) of The Holy Trinity is just plain wrong in this game.
Especially at low levels when a Tank can't actually Tank very well because they haven't bloomed yet. The correct tactic is "Wheee. Dogpile!". And if you know you've just managed to softcap yourself due to the level-up buffs then "Go Crazy" is the best choice
You should really put this into the 'Rude Tells' thread. This is gold!

How is that a WoW thing? The exact same thing happens all the time in this game, it is an MMO thing.

What got me about this genius was his ability to turn my friendly "don't worry about it"s into "I'M A VETERAN I'M BETTER THAN YOU I HATE LISTENING TO THE TEAM LEADER".
And I agree, the team leader isn't the end-all be-all of a team. I've watched good teams split into halves (and even fourths) and smash apart a mission just as well as a clustered up 8-man. Hell, on my main I just rush in. I hardly ever die, and if I do have Soul Transfer. While the rest of the team is clearing, I'm herding up 4-5 8 man spawns and letting the aggro cap send them to me in a stream.

Speaking as a frequent dier ( And i have the badges to prove it!) Im glad you can survive but man ive seen a lot of good people die while some one trys or suceeds at soloing a mob.
The problem is if you were alone or with friends it wouldnt matter. go ahead and solo the mob
But with a team I listen to boss no matter how boring it is to do so and how stupid his commands the star mean He is boss head star guy and when I agreed to team i made a contract to follow not lead and if i get too bored i leave and form my own team

Leader of a team does not mean lord and master of creation. And hugging the tank at low levels is horrible strategy. They are no more durable than anyone else yet.

My brute has been kicked several times for not "following the tank". I just jump into a group, soak up the aggro for fury, use Fault to stun/KD most things around me so they don't pose a threat to teamates, and the team steamrolls on.
The team leader reserves the exclusive right to remove you from the team for whatever reason he likes. If you don't do what he asks you to do, don't get all pissy when he kicks you out for it.
Team leaders have no automatic rights. If the team leader wants me to do what he says, he has to *earn* that privilege by not being a blithering moron. And if the team leader insist on being a dipwad, barking idiotic orders, or otherwise trying to threaten or intimidate me... well, my Ignore list hungers, and I'm always ready to feed it. Especially now that it is no longer choking on the festering remains of RMT spammers and their throwaway billboard zombies.
Really, the "team leader" has a little yellow star. That's it. It doesn't confer intelligence, experience, or any level of tactical acumen. Nor are any of those things required to get the star. And considering how often my friends have been disconnected due to lag or a bad connection, or even just the server being weird, being the "one with the star" doesn't even necessarily mean that someone went to the effort of creating the team in the first place.

Usually if a leader is that competent and intelligent i prefer that they start kicking people early on. It saves on some aggravation and i've been on several teams where when the leader start kicking teammates like that we all quit and formed a new team without the previous leader.
Dr. Todt's theme.
i make stuff...
My, my how this sounds familiar, as unfortunate as that is. I haven't played as long as many here and have rarely even ran my own team because I have felt 'veterans' would probably do better in my place, however I have come to some various conclusions as of late.
First, I have found the posturing gets grating after awhile. How many times do people cry for a team yet how long does it take for them to finally start one. Then when the time finally comes, something like this occurs and not only puts you off your game but everyone else's.
Unfortunately, and I do hate to say this but.. Mondo would be correct, at least technically. A teamleader, no matter how idiotic they may be, does reserve that right. It's a bit like watching a costume contest and seeing the one who obviously used the generic button a couple of times and crying "wtf" at the judge. As much as I shudder and wish to go into a rage, the fact is it's the judges call, not mine. Just as in this situation, it is the Team leaders situation, no matter how idiotic he may be.
Now.. saying that, I have been in this situation before. Following an idiot around pretending to be a master of tactics when it's obvious he has little idea of what he is doing is not really beneficial for a team. Normally, when this occurs, I will wait until those in between mission moments to send my regards and leave on my own. Once though, I was almost bated into an argument (several of us on the team were, as I recall) and decided to point blank refuse to step further, I told the team leader that he was behaving like an adolescent and recommended the other members to start another team, under my leadership and mentioned I would await their response. I was kicked from the team at that point but only because I hadn't hit the "quit" button quite as fast. Funnily enough, all but 2 of members of the original team joined me within a few minutes and we were able to finish a complete arc twice as fast.
I suppose the point of this little randomness is that no matter where you go in life, your going to be following an idiot unless you do something about it, right or wrong, doesn't really matter as long as your doing what you truly feel is the right thing to do.
I figure if I think I am smarter than the team lead, I am free to do what I want, and s/he is free to kick me. No hard feelings either way.
So last night I rolled up Top Tier, my MA/Shield Scrapper (loads of fun, by the way). At about level 4 I sent a tell to a team listed as LFM. I got in. Cool, more XP for me!
So the first mission is set, and it's +3 Ghouls. The team gets stomped, but who cares, it's before level 10. No debt. So we ask the team leader to either find a different mission or at the very least turn the difficulty down. He asks what we want to fight, and the team says "+0/x0, leave it even." He asks if we want -1/x8. We repeat. He asks if we want +2/x0. We repeat. This goes on for a half hour. Then, the mission is ready, but not set.
We ask him to set the mission. "I did." No, we say, you didn't. "Yes I did." No, you didn't, we say again. "Yes, I did!" So I check his vet badges; he's brand new. No worries, stuff happens. He finally clicks to it and sets the mission. All good, time to get down to brass tacks.
First thing I hear upon entering the mission: "Follow [The Tanker], k?" Sure, fine. We're level 5, but fine. At some point, I level. Juiced up on level inspirations I dive headfirst into the next group and start beating them like they owe me money.
Team Leader: FOLLOW [THE TANK]! Top you gotta listen m8
.... uh. No?
Me: I just leveled, no point in letting all this power go to waste. No worries man
Scrapper: Yeah no point in sitting on all those insps. Rock on!
He grumps about for a minute, then states again to follow [The Tank]. Fine, sure. I have more defense than our chosen tank, but who cares. We're level 6 now.
I level again a bit later on, and in the same fashion as before I dive in and make good use of my level-up insps.
Team Leader: Top omg you have to follow the tank.
Our chosen tank dies. Rest of the team is fine.
Team Leader: Grrrrg why don't you listen now the tank is dead!
Me: Dude, it's alright, low level toons die. It's not a big deal. We're not even getting debt yet. Relax and roll with the punches, we can still do this.
Team Leader: I'm tired of you arguing
Scrapper: Who's arguing?
Me: Who's arguing?
So at the next corner, the tank gets in over his head and yanks two spawns of +1 Syndicate, complete with 4 Suits. This, of course, wipes the team. I laugh it off and the tank apologizes, claiming temporary insanity.
Team Leader: Okay I hate to do this but Top Tier and [Scrapper] you guys need to go. This isn't gonna work out, you veterans really need to go easy on noobs like us so sorry but bye
[Scrapper] has been kicked from the team.
You have been kicked from the team.
What the hell? I spent that whole team being chill and enjoying myself and I get kicked for "being too hard on noobs"? How is that possible? Where was this guy from that the noobs were suddenly supposed to be treated like royalty or... man I can't even justify it. I've seen a lot of boneheaded things in this game when it comes to new players but that took the cake.
I told him in Broadcast that I was very sorry he was having such a hard time, and it felt like everyone else on the team was enjoying themselves. I then clicked his name, hit Add Note, pressed 1-Star, and typed "Whiner" in the notes box.
I hate people sometimes.
