Sgu 5/9
Okay just saw the first 5 minutes and I don't see how they are screwed. Put everyone into stasis and go to stars off the path that don't have motherships to refuel until they leave that galaxy.
Edit: Okay so instead of using common sense and doing the stasis/jump immediately they had to get the ship badly damaged first to make it a huge risk. <sigh> I'm glad this show was cancelled because the writers keep irritating the hell out of me.
I wondered why they didn't use the stasis pods last episode when they went through the blue giant. That seemed like a better option than clothing shopping on a world over run by drones.

Im pretty sure i recall at one point them saying the inside of the ship was around 400 degrees. Statis tubes are i would imagine basicly closets. I double they would provide the protection or have the additional shielding that the space suits provided.
Just my thought on it, but still i didnt feel i had to let that slide, i just figured it wasnt an option.
Well I'm not sold on the reason that they hadn't done anything with the stasis pods but there was a reason buried in the episode. They hadn't checked and tested all of them. And it did appear to take several hours or even a couple of days just to power them all up and test them. And then there was the damaged ones. Yes well and we only have enough exactly for the current number of crew down to the person. Isn't that such a nice coincidence.
Pity that it's over it would have been interesting to see how they resolved that cliff hanger.

Well, that is a cliffhanger that they could possibly bring the series back, should they want to try again. Very melancholic though.
Though one thing that apparently escaped mention or even consideration...doubling up in a single pod. Those pods were pretty darn big. Two of the smaller people, I would suggest Wray and Park, could fit into a single capsule. It would be cozy, but possible. It's not like the tubes are doing anything in particular other than freezing them. There's no IVs or gas masks or anything even touching the occupants that would suggest they are only capable of holding a single person. Heck, they probably could've even put those tubs of perishable food in with a person and have them edible on the other side.
God I hate Syfy so much. And the writers for turning what was a mediocre series to a great one. Yes I can still find plenty of flaws with the series and their logic but I enjoyed the hell out of the past few episodes. Hopefully they will do a few movies to wrap it up.
Now for my solutions.
One, they should have collected the drones left over from the two ships they destroyed. They have used them before and could likely manage it again. Each group they added would act as additional defense and assault capability.
Two, they could have refueled at a different star. It wouldn't have to be a blue giant. It could be anything that wasn't along the gate path. This would give them the extra power needed to spend more time working on getting the ship and stasis pods repaired.
Three, the shuttles have their own power supply and life support. Undoubtedly they aren't meant to be a long term solution but the remaining shuttle could probably give Eli several weeks or even months to continue working on the stasis pod solution or other alternatives.
Four, not really a solution but something that could have happened for next season or could happen for a movie. Eli could sit in the chair. Maybe even open the contained area with Ginn in it. They could have months of subjective time to figure out a solution.
Don't count your weasels before they pop dink!
Well, we know that at least one occupant of the chair vanished into thin air after freezing the room.

They were pretty clear last week that the only way anyone would survive on the ship in the blue star was to be wearing a space suit on top of destiny's normal shielding and life support etc.

Oh please they never even considered the stasis pods. They had plenty of time to check and repair them before they ever had to refuel at the blue star.
The stasis pods would have been great to use to safely transport the stranded colonists. They could have found out then that some needed repair and gotten them fixed before they even went to the blue star and had some of the material stored in case future repairs were needed.
With the gate destroyed and the drones gone they could have used the shuttles and stocked up on fresh food, put it into a cargo room and turned off life support so it would be frozen to last longer, and refueled Destiny at that star.
Then if they actually decided that the pods couldn't be used while refueling at the blue star then fine using the gate would be the next best choice.
Then this episode they could have simply put everyone into stasis and make the jump to the next galaxy without getting into the pointless fight with the drones and blowing up one of the shuttles. Or they could have continued on thru the galaxy by bypassing the motherships outside the path of the stargates at least until the drones figured out something was wrong and tried to find them again. The farther thru the galaxy they got the less time they'd have to spend in stasis when they made the jump to the next galaxy.
Now Mandu did make a valid argument for attacking the Motherships. Getting drones and reprogramming them would be a good idea to add to the ships defenses.
Of course the writers had to get rid of the shuttles or at least one of them because that makes the crew dependent on the stargates for supplies. Can't have people asking silly questions like, "Why don't they just use the shuttles?" or "Why don't they just use the stasis chambers until they find a place where they can resupply food and water?" or "If the planet has wild game they can hunt and eat, why don't they kill a bunch of alien deer and freeze it in an unused storage room by turning off the life support and take it out as needed."

Now i will give you that for the colonists when they claimed the drain on resources the pods would have come in handy. But for the heat problems of being in the star, no, i have no problem with them not using them or even being considered. Not to mention how fricken boring that episode would have been if you put everyone to sleep rather then having them fighting drones on the planet.
Oddly i found this episode to be one of the weakest so far this season. Not only as a series finale, but even if it was coming back as a season finale there is absolutely no real cliff hanger to it IMO. You know they wouldnt be planning on killing eli.
So basicly he would either get the pod working, and they all wake up 3 years later, or have a nerdgasm of an idea and not want to wake the others and save the day not requiring them to spend the full three years in stasis.
IMO this show worked best when they ignored the "Stranded" nature of the crew. If it was coming back, being they mentioned that planet that they tried to take over the gate on that could have reached them i would have hoped that they found some way to make a treaty allowing like 1 connection a month or something for supplies and leave etc, then they could have gotten on with doing good stories.
So your problem is that they didnt show them considering an option that they knew wouldnt work?

Why waste resources on life support keeping a stasis pod active to freeze food in when the same effect can be achieved by turning off life support in a storage room that can hold several hundred times more perishable supplies.
That makes as much sense as using snow making machines in Antarctica.

The first step in being sane is to admit that you are insane.
Sticking the food in the stasis pod would preserve it as-is. Namely, no freezer burn or post-defrosting sogginess. It appears to be a perfect preservation, unlike what tends to happen to vegetables when frozen in a method slower than flash-freezing.

Since the crew of the Destiny has the ability to manufacture hi tech parts out of unrefined ores they can cobble together what they need to do some food preservation. Even if they couldn't do that much they would have at least had plenty of time to relearn the simple techniques of salting, pickling, brining, and drying food.
They made a still for crying out loud. If they can figure out a way to make booze they can figure out how to make beef jerky and dried fruits and veggies.
And heaven forbid they hadn't learned those skills by now they just encountered their own descendants who were stranded on a world for 30 years after losing contact with Novis and they could have gotten those skills and equipment from them.
So there's no reason for them to use stasis pods as freezers.

The only thing that irritated me was when they realized they screwed up and made Zats too powerful (1 shot stuns, 2 shots kill, 3 shots disintegrates) then pretended it never happened. They should have realized that was a bad idea to begin with.
You do realize they went through the star with the food all out in the open and it was fine... if it was that bad the food would have been destroyed... this shows that they have a way of cooling the food separate from the rest of the ship, but even still it shouldn't be that hard to find a spot in the ship with AC and have everyone go there and turn it on full bore... i dunno like the chair room >.>
SGU was by far the best SG series. The characters were more realistic IMO than the rest. I wish they would bring the series back for atleast one more season. I found a petition on the internet to sign to keep it on air. I know I cannot post the link to it on this forum, but just do a google search for Bureau of Petitions and seach entertainment for it.

Nope. They had much better writing staff. Good writing, likeable characters, and solid entertaining episodes makes the fans much more lenient and forgiving.

The problem is that Stargate Command has already blown up one planet getting people to Destiny so the inhabitants are far less likely to allow Stargate Command to use their Stargate. If some alien species asked the United States to use their Stargate to contact an alien group when one planet has already blown up in the process, do you think any American President would give the go ahead? No sane leader would do it unless the technology was throughly tested and posed no risk to their population.

So SGU is about to start. I wonder if they'll even bother to give a reason why they don't put everyone but 2 people into stasis so the ship can conserve energy and they can conserve supplies and make an attempt to go as far as possible in FTL to outrun the drones.
