56 Billion inf ?
I'm not even sure if I feel 56 trillion is the total. I (and it seems like at least a few others) probably have approximately 56 billion in liquid influence across our toons.
For some reason, I don't think each of us account for 0.1% of the total liquid inf out there. We may feel rich, but I don't think that rich. But at the same time, I guess it's not completely out of the question.

As to the real magnitude of the total inf held being only 56 trillion.
We have multiple people in this forum saying they have 50-100% of the 56 billion amount, across one account, all by themselves. Let us suppose they are telling the truth, and further, that their holdings represent a reasonable sample of the player base, the type that know how to make inf and/or how to horde it. Let us suppose they are about 5%. I don't think that it is unreasonable to postulate that plenty of people have figured out how to make and hold inf without ever being a participant in this forum.
There are about 100,000 active accounts, if memory serves.
EDIT: wish I could figure why the dang thing posts sometimes when you just hit the enter key to start a new paragraph. To continue:
so 5000 * 25,000,000,000 inf would be 125,000,000,000,000 .
Cut either estimate in half and you still have 60 Trillion.
I'll leave it up to all of you to guesstimate the holdings of the other 95,000 accounts.

Jakhammer: Let us, to extend the supposition, suppose that only 5% of the people who CAN do what we do actually CARE to do it.
As has been mentioned in many other places, there's not very many uses for 56 billion inf.
I haven't got 56 billion inf- but I've BURNT 56 billion inf.

Fulmens, sorry my clumsiness caused you to reply to an incomplete post.
I would say that my experience of the gaming world over 40+ years of play, is that people who enjoy gaming, of all types, include a MUCH larger subset of the More is Better, Too Much is Barely Enough mindset than the general population.
So I will stick to a full 2.5% to 5% estimate.
People like you, who wantonly burn inf, are more likely in the 5% of 5% category. Have to admit I admire your freedom from greed.

Lessee, we've got 10 people here admitting to [on the order of] 56 billion each. Assume that 10% of players are forumgoers and 10% of forumgoers are willing to talk about being rich here, that's about 1000 people with 56 billion each, so yeah, around 56 trillion cash.

I could believe 56 trillion.
The xp stat is way off too. ParagonWiki says it takes about 39 million xp to go from 1 to 50. It would only take 402 people to level 50 to break that total xp figure. Is that off by a magnitude of a thousand too? More? I know that Kotaku isn't renowned for their fact-checking prowess, but at this point I have to wonder about the devs' stat-tracking tools and abilities.

If anyone was watching the really long ustream at the right time, you might have caught Zwillinger and Ghost Falcon discussing this article. While doing so, one for them mentioned this statistic, and called it a "comma error" - there were supposed to be three more zeroes.
I was thinking about that this morning. If I were to pull together all my raw Inf (not counting the "value" of my stored IOs), I could probably safely say I'd have about 5.6 billion Inf. That means that I hold 1% of 1% of all the Inf in CoH.
That sounds like a paltry sum, but another way to look at is that, if there were only 10k subscribers, they'd all have the same amount of Inf as me. I've no idea how many subscribers there actually are, but I'm sure there's more than that, by a factor of 5 at least. And we've had at least two threads recently about people having 50 billion or more. And there's at least a few people out there with Smurphy levvels of wealth.
This has me wondering about the distribution of wealth in the game. If we gathered up all the marketeers, farmers, and other people who have over-the-cap levels of wealth, how much Inf is left for everyone else? What percentage of the playerbase are they? And do we have any way to know, or even make a reasonable guess as to what these numbers are?

If this ppl can make 56 bill in the game market, he must be making a fortune in RL with stocks.
