Where do PvP recipe drops come from?

This is kind of like "where do babies come from" except I think the thread title's answer is even MORE mysterious...

So, do such thing only drop in PvP zones? And, if so, do they only drop in PvP zones where you are lvl 50 and not exempted down to, say, lvl 25?

If this has been answered elsewhere, then I am sorry, because I did not find it through the searches.

And, if they drop in regular content, then are they THAT much more rare than purple drops?

Thanks in advance for the information!

PvP Changes

  • PvP Invention Sets have been added. These sets have a chance to drop only by defeating other players, either in PvP zones or in the arena. They have two different bonuses, a PvE bonus and a PvP bonus. In PvE zones, only the PvE bonus will affect the player. In PvP zones or the Arena, both bonuses will be in effect.

Thats where most of them come from.

Two friends climb into the Arena. They take turns defeating each other for badges and the chance at a drop that might be worth 2 billion Inf or more? Yeah...crazier things have happened in this game.

^^ This is actually the truth

I think I have gotten 2 drops actually PvP'ing one in zone and 1 during a practice match for the first freedom league. That's through 3 leagues and 1 boot camp each that had weekly matches and biweekly practices.

I just don't understand how you can AFK farm PVP recipies.

And I know it's probably against the rules to tell me, but if you can farm the recipies, can you also farm the badges? Because I still need the 400 rep badge redside and it is a pain to get the regular way.

Is there still that 10 minute cool down on the same target?

No it's a 5 min rep timer that no longer resets if you kill before timer is up.

While it's been debated on weather it violates weula botting rule it's been known that people do it and to my knowledge no action has been taken against an individual.

I myself have publicly said i do it, the method has been posted many times and you are correct it can be used to "farm" the badge.

Take 2 toons one with a self rez, put them on a tf and have one toon kill the other with an auto power or pet. The trick is just in the timing since there is a 2 min respawn to the hospital timer.

Given the "Heal badge farms" and the like that have gone on for years with no action taken (except, much later, lowering what's needed for the badge,) I don't think they actually care.

I would agree but modify it to say "care much", because they did care enough to put the respawn timer in and i do know that they where interested to know how it was being done when PvP io's where being introduced ( i will not go into specifics though)

That's 3 more than I have EVER gotten.

Granted, I don't PvP much anymore, but when I still did on a regular basis, I got squat.

What I don't understand is this... Why make the pvp recipes such a hassle to get? Wouldn't it encourage people to pvp more if they felt they could go in with the proper tools?

The carrot on the stick for pvp shouldn't be the IO recipes IMO. There's should be a currency earned from pvping that you can use to buy recipes with much like reward merits. The more people you kill the more of this currency you have to spend.

PvP IO recipes IMO should come from not just killing players in pvp but from mobs in pvp enabled zones (to encourage people to actually GO to those zones and spend time in them). Perhaps even have whatever missions are available in the pvp zones have a chance of dropping a pvp recipe at the end of the mission just like other mission ending recipe drops.

I am honestly surprised the devs have ignored pvp IO's for so long. It's such a huge chasm of price difference between everything else including purple recipes and the pvp uniques. The thing is most people only care about the pvp uniques and mainly for PVE!

It just seems to me like there is something wrong with the whole way pvp IO's are handled and it does nothing to encourage actual PVP. if they were to make the changes I suggested you'd see more people actually hanging out in the pvp zones and less people dual boxing to farm themselves in an arena.

What is the lowest lvl PVP zone? IE, what is the soonest you can PVP? And, if it's lower than the cap for Test server toons, why wouldn't someone just make a "Punching Dummy" and go for getting their drops?

Also, will the PVP IO's drop in the arena?

The funny thing is that aside from a few procs and uniques, the PvP IO sets are inferior compared to the other sets that already existed in the game.

"the reason there are so many sarcastic pvpers is we already had a better version of pvp taken away from us to appease bad players. Back then we chuckled at how bad players came here and whined. If we knew that was the actual voice devs would listen to instead of informed, educated players we probably would have been bigger dicks back then." -ConFlict

Yeah, with all the attention they've given PVP in the last seven issues, I'm not sure how they could have missed... waitasec...

Bloody bay. Enter at 15. Caps out at 25, with up to lvl 30 powers available thanks to SSKing.

Now, as far as "Soonest you can PVP?" Go in the arena at level 1 and brawl each other.

Agreed. When I got the Rep badge blueside, I think I got one sweet drop in the two weeks it took to get the badge. Not that I'd complain if I lucked into one of those 3-billion inf recipes, but I mainly just want to get the badge out of the way redside without having to sit bored for two hours a night for two straight weeks.

See I don't think the pvp recipes are inferior... just different. But when I am making a build I immediately rule them out just cause of the sheer rarity and cost.

I'd LIKE to use some of them but it simply isn't worth it to try and acquire them due to the way they are produced and the cost they garner because of that.

For example the pvp defense set has some great set bonuses for pve:

Regen, HP, resistances to energy/negative/psi/toxic, +dmg

there's nothing wrong with that set at all bonus wise and thats completely ignoring how awesome the unique is.

The other sets also have some great bonuses... The pvp heal set has a 7.5% recharge bonus in pve at 5 pieces. Thats a pretty nice bonus if you ask me and the unique is great Health/Fast Healing/High Pain Tolerance fodder. The melee set has a nice smashing/lethal resist bonus which is quite rare among set bonuses and it has it in a decent amount to boot. The ranged set has -3 KB protection which while not unique to pvp ios is nice to have another method of getting -KB without using uniques like BotZ. All in all while the pvp sets may not benefit everyone the same I can't really call them inferior. Some of them are downright desirable... just not worth the time or cost to get them currently.

I know pvp is largely forgotten by the devs and believe I don't really care either way about pvp but it just seems like a flaw in the system for these things to be so rare... rarer than the purple "very rare" recipes in fact. Doesn't that seem wrong to the devs? While I don't expect them to devote whole issues to pvp could it hurt to tweak the rate and methods of acquisition of these recipes? I mean it might actually PROMOTE pvp if people felt like they could "gear up" for it specifically without spending a fortune or farming a second account.

I disagree. Several of the sets are very good.

I actually had a PvP recipe taken away from me, before I ever even got one. I'm at -1 PvP recipe now, so why bother?

35 hero merits each!?

So, 2 and a half months of running 5 tip missions a day and the occasional 6th (11th) for the morality mission...

OR

Doing the same for half that time, but running enough TFs to get the merits and inf required to buy the hero merits at 50 merits + 20,000,000 inf each.

That REALLY seems to me as if the Devs didn't want someone to get a PvP recipe; anyone to get one really...

assuming getting 18 H/V merits via tips and buying 17 via merits and inf, one PvP recipe would cost 850 merits and 340,000,000 inf AND roughly 50 hours of playing/TF-SFing/Farming.

Ugh, I'd rather roam Warburg...
