  1. All these proposed tank missions also assume I'd never be in a cave mission (which happens too often, I hate those and CoT maps), Never be in a small room where even at the ceiling I'm within melee reach, and never do a TF because most of them require both of those situations. Sure, if I wanted to hover/blast all over the different zones, and never join teams doing TF's or missions, that'd be swell. Unfortunately the game isn't condusive to that what with all the office and cave maps.

As to staying at 80' range, I'll have to try this. It has been my experience that mobs close the distance. This happens at lvl 1. This happens at lvl 50. The AI wants to cycle through all the mob's attacks. When both range attacks are on cool down, they close the distance. Other than Sappers, and Psi slinging arachnos (who have no arms or physical attacks) I cannot think of a single mob in the game that doesn't try to come slap you.

Anywho. It is what it is, and we're all gonna get hit by the 5% streak breaker rule. And when we do, I'll take the extra 9% Resistance all day long.

  2. Hmmm. Just checked in game and my Def are:
    s/l: 13.6%
    Ranged: 19.6
    Melee: 9.6
    AoE: 10.3
    Fire 29.2
    nrg/neg nrg: 33.9
    Psi 26.5

    Res:
    Smash/lethal: 70.45
    Fire/Cold: 14.4
    NRg: 11.8
    neg nrg: 15.01
    Psi: 48.39
    tox: 11.8

Status Protection to everything is 13, but KB which is 10. Don't think this is a problem as I can't recall ever being knocked down.

Anyone have a build that hits the soft caps for WP?
  3. Thanks. I'll look into this. As he is, he's SUPER tough to kill. I can walk away from Giant mobs and come back w/ no noticable dmg at all. I also have all the END I'd ever want. It never runs low. Just trying to figure out if I was at the cap being the reason. I know how to see the numbers in MIDS, I meant to say I don't know what the caps target numbers are.

    Tourettes.
  4. This is my current build on WP/SS tank. He's pretty beefy, and almost indestructible. Would like to know if he's soft capped on either Def or Dmg Res? I don't even know what those %'s are honestly. Forgot too long ago. Any suggestions?

  5. tl;dr

I don't know black assassin, and don't mind getting his name wrong. I'm not defending him, I'm defending my choice.

His build was better. His numbers were better. This is a numbers game. Get over it.

This SERIOUSLY never occured to you? Um...You're welcome?

    Tourettes.

PS- did I just get trolled?
  7. If this guy (^^) Says a ss/fire build is awful you had BETTER listen. I'd go w/ doing a search on the forums for his name, find his ss/fire build and be the happiest farmer you can be. I am.

    Tourettes.
  8. Since you posted Plainguy, and "With all due respect", I'll address your sour grapes side by side with the winner, that I don't think you opened or you'd see some differences:

    Plainguy's build:
    DEF:
    Smash/Lethal: 11.2%
    NRG: 37.1%
    Neg:37.1%
Psi, Fire, Cold, Melee, AoE: 11.2%
    Ranged: 46.2%
    RES:
    S/L: 40.2%

    Ninja Assassin's:
    DEF:
    Smash/Lethal: 46.4%
    NRG: 16.4%
    Neg:16.4%
Psi, Fire, Cold, Melee, AoE: 13.9
    Ranged: 15.2%
    RES:
    S/L: 49.5%

So, you're right. Numbers DON'T lie. If you'll check, I asked for most survivable...I never said I was gonna hover around and snipe. The power limitations were listed. Berating his build doesn't help change the fact that his is the more "survivable" build. Even if I were going w/ your playstyle of hover snipe, I'd still use his. Ranged mobs close to Melee whenever possible. This is the AI of the game. Omitting that omits the build of CoH at it's core. The ones who cannot close will have abilities to give -Fly THEN close. Most mobs in the game also Use S/L or incorporate it, whereas many fewer use NRG or NEG. Sure, If I were farming then I'd want that, but this is for general play. (Also if I were farming it wouldn't be this AT).

Hope this hasn't sounded too snotty, but saying you're better than a winner is bitter and shallow, and in this instance incorrect. I spent 2 hours looking over every entry, and this one beat the others. I stand by my choice, and state again, your numbers just weren't there. Also 9% res difference is HUGE! Don't discount that.

    Tourettes
  9. I've unlocked Tier 7. Not a problem. Even if I hadn't, the toon isn't for itself, it's for running it TO level up my toons on my main, paid for, account.

    Tourettes.
  10. So, anyone else make a free account and lvl up a ss/fire brute to help level any of your main account toons?

This is what I've come up with as best "FREE" account farmer. Any suggestions would be helpful.

I'm justifying the Ancillary pool because it takes the need of acc away, and gives me more healing and endo.

  15. Ultrawatt built this. Cost me 1.25 billion to get there, and that doesn't count the LotG's I had. Also, you will HAVE to swap to villain for patron power, then back. It's a hassel, but it's worth it. I farm +4/x8 and never eat an insp. EDIT: I should add that I swapped Grant invis for Hover, but slotted the same. No noticable loss.

  16. Black assasin: Highest survivable, and maintains all requiements.

    Shadowy Dream: #'s weren't there.

EJI: Very close numbers. thx for including hasten w/ #2.

VTG: Not enough REsist. Ranged def good, but took stealth AND stealth IO????

Plainguy Both submissions too low on def and res to be considered.

So, Black Assasin, PM me your @ name and when I log in (Sometime Monday) then I'll send you your 100 Million Inf.! Now to start shopping for all those wicked exp. sets. I'm thinking I'll spend around 1.5 billion on it. LOL

    Tourettes
  17. as a caveat, cloning another persons work won't fly. I'm going through each build and would notice "copying" pretty easily. In which case the winner would be the first entry by date.

I received the PM and it is in the running.

Winner chosen by midnight sunday evening (or 1 minute into Monday morning) EST if I'm late.

Winner will be announced here so that it's legit.

As to gimping the builders by requesting that epic ancillary, I should have clarified...it's also a concept character, thus the need for fly. With that said, I guess I should amend it to "The most survivable build within these parameters".

I set aside the prize money, and eagerly await seeing who will be the winner of this. Also, Winner's name will go in my sig for a bit as "Outstanding builder"

I personally don't think Hasten adds much to this build, the difference between bolt->blast->burst and bolt->blast->bolt->burst is about 2 dps, less than 2%. [total dmg of all attacks/(total cast time of all attacks+(.223 x number of attacks for Arcanatime))].

Since one can only take 4 power pools, this means I'll have to ditch either the medicine pool or the leadership pool. It doesn't make sense to give up a 10% boost (assault - applied to base, not enhanced, dmg) to gain less than 2% dps, so medicine it is, I guess.

So, here it is again with hasten, no aid self. I picked up a few extra shineys with the extra slots, but still don't feel it's worth the trade.

edit to add: perhaps I am being a bit stubborn re: the value of hasten. It does bring up aim & build-up more often, and drops the recharge on the AoE from 9s to 6.5s.
Glad to see you answered your own objection. I've been playing blasters since day 1. LOVE them. And Hasten has never NOT been a staple that enhances every single one of them. Show me a blaster w/ a ton of INF spent on him, but w/o hasten, and I'll take the one w/ equal INF spent with hasten every time. DPS is PER SECOND, and halfing recharge is like doubling dmg...to a point.
  19. You only need to know ONE thing when choosing a brute: It's all about the SMASH!!

    Do you like hurting people?
    Do you like breaking stuff?
Do you like rushing into other mobs while others are taking a knee?

If the answers are yes, then a Brute is for you!

No matter what Powerset you choose, you'll LOVE your brute. No other AT has it going on like we do. We laugh at Tankers. We don't need no stinkin' healer. Blasting someone at range is for *&#$(@$. Scrappers want to be like us.

So, roll a Brute and learn the ways of THE SMASH!
  20. Also on the WP bandwagon, but for two reasons:

    1) Minimal Effects chosen will not be visible (You can call it regen if you want)
    2) WP > Regen and once toggles are on, you really don't have to click anything, which leaves your fingers for more SMASH!

    Tourettes.
  21. FYI: This is a current build, and haven't respecced since Fitness became inherent, so have 3 free powers.

  22. Paying 100,000,000 INF to the best build. I'll be the only judge of best build.

    Rules:
    1) Aiming for HIGH survivability while maintaining Damage that blasters are known for.
    2) Must have Fly
    3) Must Use Force Mastery w/ Temp Invulnerability
    4) Must have Hasten, and be overall a very quick recharge centric build.
    5) Can NOT use HO's or Purple sets.

Tips to win this challenge: Gear the build toward ranged damage (no blappers).

Good luck to you all, and thanks. Contest ends this Sunday Oct 8th at Midnight EST. Winner will be annonced here, and sent PM for their @name so prize can be sent.

    Thanks,
    Tourettes

    PS-Yes, I'm buying a build.
  23. Specifically is it more advantageous to be Controller instead of Dom w/ the Elec/ Powerset? I took it on a Dom and got to 20 and the dmg was not there. (Elec/Elec). So going to re-roll and wondering thoughts of being controller vs Dom w/ this powerset. Doesn't seem I get many miles out of "Domination" power w/ this set. But the sleep is amazing.

    Thoughts?

Also, what would be a great secondary set to pair it w/ for pure dmg? I'm thinking /fire, but I miss a lot of the fine details.

    Thanks,
    Tourettes

    First Dom

I'm loving the holds, hating the damage....lack of.

So I'm at lvl 20 and ready to re-roll. Keeping Elec Control (Reason I made toon) and choosing new secondary...what would be best suited to deal DMG? /Fire?
  25. My 1st lvl 40 (then cap) and later first 50 was my first brute, Tourettes. He's Energy/Energy. He's awesome. I can stand in the middle of Every mob in the game whilst taunting Galactus (tm) but (And it's an HUGE Oprah Winfrey sized butt).. I cannot deal w/ Psi dmg. If I have to do Carnival missions I've either gotta get help, or stock up on Inspirations. The Master Illusionist will wreck.my.face! Everytime.

Beyond that, I've solo'd a few TF's w/ this toon. It's the only one I've done so with. Did the Recluse arc on +8/x2 without any real difficulties. (Recluse is a punk). Also, prior to them fixing the last mob in ITF to be more resiliant to End Drain I could pull all his blue and drop him in seconds.

It's a very effective secondary for a brute, but remember the main problem: WHEN you get hit (not if) you take full damage, so the more mobs you try to take on at once, the higher likelyhood of death.

IE- You can do 3 bosses at +4 at same time, but 20x minions at +0 seem to do more dmg because you get hit by the streak breaker 5% a LOT more.

    Hope this helps.
    Tourettes.
