Seriously, The Cut Scenes

Well, yeah, but she needs the existing dialog to start the screen adaptation.

By "play back properly", I trust you mean that there will be sufficient dramatic tension and plot development once you get your hands on the (very) raw source material.

What am I saying? This is YOU! We *will* have the mini-movie we were meant to have!

Well, that too, but what she meant I believe is whether the dialog from the cutscenes will display in the demorecord. If you haven't played with it, demorecord doesn't always display exactly what you see in game.

And honestly, there will always be someone who will be seeing it for the first time, and you want to deny them the chance? That's probably why they're unskippable.
Supposedly they're unskippable because the game uses the time they're running to assemble some trial-related technical stuff on the back end. Which is why everyone can't just fly over the wall and right into BAF Phase 1 without someone hitting the door.

It is very frustrating to zone into the BAF and get stopped in my tracks for the 80th time while that cutscene plays.

By the time I actually get *into* the Trial, half the robots in the first encounter have been defeated and I can look forward to a reward of Uncommon or lower.

I don't get the logic. If your respective computers are loading the BAF that slowly, wouldn't the speedsters be ahead of you killing the spawns regardless of whether the cut scene plays or not? Everyone pauses during the cut scene, not everyone has a solid state drive...

Ooh, I got it, how about make the cutscenes be a feature which you can turn off while setting challenges for a task force/strike force? Also, it will ask you if you want cutscenes on or off before starting a BAF or Lambda. I think that might work well.

I usually don't mind the cutscenes. Some of them are fun even (though I really wish they'd put back Romulus's twenty foot tall "NICTUS!" scenery chewing. I like hammy villains!). My real complaint with the BAF one is that I'm not the fastest zoner in the world, and when I get in I'm often swamped by lag for the first fifteen seconds. I have had BAF runs where I wasn't able to get a single hit in on the war works because half the league rushed ahead and curbstomped them before I was even through the door.

The problem with skipping a cutscene is that not everyone will. So they're frozen while some guys will exploit this. Especially as sometimes I want to watch that cutscene.

(I'm also very much hoping that our confrontation with Tyrant is NOT a Trial. Having 24-36 people farming the confrontation with a major big bad seems... rather anti-climatic and un-epic to me, but that's a discussion for another time)

By 'play back properly', I mean this:

When we're actually getting the cutscenes in-game at the time they run, they GENERALLY run fine. However, when you demorecord them and play them back, you'll often have models vanish, dialog disappear, special effects are gone, music/sound won't play (this is a bug I wish to God they'd fix), etc. It has to do with the action-to-player distance ratio, I gather.

Anyway...

No way to know til I try it. Life's full of these little challenges...

*****

BTW, /signed for the idea of making cutscenes a selectable option at the start of the TF/SF/Trial - leader can go, "hey, we want the cutscene or not for those who haven't seen it or those who want to use it for bio breaks?"

If the Devs can't or won't give us the ability to skip cutscenes then could they at least re-edit the BAF one so that it's maybe half the length it is now? I think I could tolerate having unskippable cutscenes as long as they were relatively short (like say 20 seconds or less).

Cutscenes don't work like that. While the cutscene plays the server pauses the combat. No one, player or NPC, can take any actions while the cutscene plays. The server even freezes the recharge timers.

The problem is that with the BAF, they DO. Because very often when I'm finished looking at Mother Mayhem's strange hatred of pants and capable of moving again, I'll look up and see 12-20 Warworks already down.

Not to mention not particurlarly heroic. You're right, it should be a zone event, in Atlas Park. He comes zooming in from one direction, Statesman from the other, and Statesman gets flattened. Tyrant knocks the globe flying, flattening any new heroes when it lands. See, participation and challenge from the moment you start the game! Then the hero arrives to save the day... ok, it needs work...

Yeah, really. Whoever is planning this show is choosing the wrong target. We need a case of that beer, man.

Speaking of Marauder's drink, is that thing strapped to his left forearm a bottle holder?

My idea was more of a task force fight. You and your 7 buddies fight your way up his tower to confront him in his throne room. Over the course of the battle, in the background and distance you can see IDF War Walkers and Vanguard HVACs duking it out, and so forth, and as you fight him, the tower around you is falling apart. Kind of like how in the Silver Mantis Strike Force as you take out the Sky Raider base's turrets, the base becomes increasingly on fire. With this, as you bring Tyrant's HP down to certain tiers, more of the surrounding tower and throne room collapses around you due to the absolutely titanic energies being thrown into battle. By the time you're done, everything above the throne room is simply gone and you're standing amidst the wreckage. Heck, if possible, you're standing in a crater where the tower once stood.

There should be a real feel of storming the castle where YOU are the hero, or in the case of villains, not taking too kindly to some jerk deciding he doesn't like how you operate.

Just don't feel two dozen people dogpiling him feels as awesome as an eight man team (like how in Justice League, the 8 person League took on Luthor-Braniac).

I tried to ask about this at PAX East but muddled it (you can see me botching that at the Q&A).

I feel they should add a small chance for an alternate cut-scene. For the BAF, same as currently except Mother slowly topples forwards. For the Lambda, instead of chattering and drinking serum, Marauder performs the forbidden dance with a Vicky.

They should have 'outtakes'. Say...

The Barracuda SF... Mueller runs in to release Reichsman... but as the containment thing opens... you hear Darth Vader's breathing, and it's done like the scene in EMPIRE STRIKES BACK where Vader throttles Ozzel for being an incompetent moron.

The Roy Cooling arc... Captain Castillo thinks everything is better with FIRE!... and then he does the Beavis and Butthead laugh before coughing and apologizing for ruining the moment.

You get the idea.

Disagree. It puts too many words in your mouth for one. It also seemed to decide that we needed an 8-man team to defeat Positron, even though the TF requires four to start, and since there were only five of us three of us got cloned. So it's broken, and makes you out as a generic trash-talking villain, and is therefore not awesome in my book.

Yes. And that fact irritates me. Not so much because of the cut scene itself, but because other players dive in on the mobs before the rest of the league assembles.

Trust me, it does no good if the league leader politely asks everyone to wait until the survivors of the attempt to load all actually make it in. No harm no foul, really, but it is kinda annoying.

I even suspect it doesn't really hurt my participation score much (I'm still getting components). At most, it costs me a thread or two or some iXP. Mostly? It just irks me because it's rude.

You know, I actually hate the BAF cutscene more for the point of view, then for the poor quality and repetitiveness of it.

The BAF cutscene treats everyone like they are in a movie theater watching the bad guys have a chat; we are treated like the audience.

I for one do not appreciate it! We the players are super heros/villains, entering the BAF in a desperate bid to stop Emperor Cole from gaining the power to attack our world. We the players are THE action!

This cutscene should take place in a Vanguard briefing room and should involve Dark Watcher or someone equivalent, telling us what our mission is and why it is so important...immmerse us in the story.......let us participate.....WE are the story!

If you have to have a woman with large..erm.....if you have to have a woman.....then have Levantera in a bikini do the briefing!
